I just received a letter from those in the High Tower, that my
winter warming allowance will be taken off and I will have to repay
last year’s allowance because I earn over the threshold. Quite right
too. I didn’t ask for it, didn’t need it, and don’t deserve. Plenty
do, and rightfully should get it. Too much cash is thrown around
because you qualify by age or you are on disability (I am and deserve
that) but it shouldn’t open the flood gates for vast amounts of
people getting extra cash which, like me, they don’t need.I appreciate it’s going to be difficult to have everyone assessed
down to the last quid or two, but there must be millions used that
should be going elsewhere.April 15, 2026 at 12:35 #1763652BigG
Quite right; I too have lost my winter fuel allowance. As I keep saying, all genuine benefits are means tested.

No they’re not. Stop f’kin lying in here.
April 15, 2026 at 12:45 #1763658Value you do yourself no favours mate pip DLA I think (as my mate broke is back at work) industrial injuries benefit is not means could be wrong on that one so you can shoot me down in flames
April 15, 2026 at 18:42 #1763716A list of which benefits are means tested and which are not.
April 15, 2026 at 20:56 #1763736Thanks for clearing that up Glad

April 16, 2026 at 15:40 #1763830April 16, 2026 at 17:25 #1763853Every chance it’s a wind up. Reform’s vetting is known to be, sketchy, let’s say. They were cold calling people begging them to be candidates so that’s asking for pranksters to get involved.
April 16, 2026 at 17:54 #1763857I remember someone standing for the Monster Raving Loony Party in the famous 1981 Crosby by-election under the name Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim Bus Stop-F’tang-F’tang-Olé-Biscuit Barrel (stolen from Monty Python). He received about 220 votes.
The same by-election saw yet another campaign by Bill Boaks, the eccentric road safety campaigner. He must have stood in about 25 by-elections in total.
The following year, he obtained the grand total of 5 votes in Glasgow Hillhead, at the time the lowest number of votes in British political history and fewer people than were actually required to nominate him.
The great road safety campaigner died about two years later – after falling off a bus.
April 16, 2026 at 18:11 #1763864I have to say I hadn’t heard of Boaks. These eccentric characters are far more interesting than those at the top of politics.
As I’m sure you know, Alan ‘Howling Laud’ Hope represented the Loonies on Ashburton Town Council here in Devon for a time having been elected unopposed. He was later mayor of the town.
April 16, 2026 at 18:56 #1763884The Natural Law Party who basically thought that all the world’s ills could be cured by transcendental meditation fielded hundreds of candidates in elections during the ’90s and all lost their deposits, winning less than 1% of the votes. Think they’re defunct now

Here’s dear old Bill Boaks on his bike
April 16, 2026 at 19:13 #1763886Mr Boaks would have made an interesting interviewee in Dave Allen’s documentary for ATV “In Search Of The Great English Eccentric” (available on YouTube). Maybe he was too busy campaigning?
The programme featured an interview with the wonderful Ivor Cutler, who wasn’t English the last time I checked.
April 16, 2026 at 19:23 #1763888I think Natural Law enjoyed funding from George Harrison.
April 16, 2026 at 19:50 #1763891Compared to the current lot, they actually sound quite sane.
Where do I sign up for the yogic flying classes?
April 16, 2026 at 20:12 #1763893Channel 4 News have been interviewing the public in the run-up to the elections. One fellow said that he has always voted Labour but he is deserting them this time as they no longer stand for the working man. Fair enough – I agree with him. Then he said that he was going to vote for Reform. Yeah – Nige has really got the working man’s interests at heart, you total numbskull.
The mind boggles.
April 16, 2026 at 22:54 #1763913I occasionally browse Facebook, earlier a post from Farage popped up (I don’t ‘follow’ him or anyone related yet there it was but that’s another story) giving the results of a poll that apparently shows the milk preferences spilt by voters of each party, obviously to show that the woke lefties all drink oat milk and real men drink a liquid designed for the young of bovines.
It was captioned ‘Reform voters drink real milk’. That’s right folks, we’re now politicising f***ing milk. I despair.
