I realise Coolmore do not like the King George for their 3 year olds but fillies get the best part of a stone from the older horses. She would hack up.

Enable ran the race and it did not do her any harm.

I don’t know why they changed their minds about the race for their 3yos CAS. Galileo won it well, and his defeat in the Irish Champion following was more about weight adjustments and race tactics than anything else. Didn’t seem to have any adverse effect.

Last reasonably high profile 3yo I can remember them running was Cape Blanco 11 years ago. I’ve probably forgotten some no doubt mind.

I think they got it into their heads that the race bottomed Galileo and he was not the same horse in the autumn. However, as you say TTC, he ran well at Leopardstown, only beaten in a photo in a tactical race and with a pacemaker getting in the way. As a spectacle, it is one of the best races I have ever seen.

If I recall correctly, his only other run was in the Breeders Cup Classic where he did not handle the dirt. Absolutely the wrong race for him.

Not convinced the King George did him any harm.

I was curious as to how the RPost’s TopSpeed rated the Oaks:
    Snow Fall 108
    Mystery Angel 100 2nd btn 16 lengths
    Divinely 95 3rd btn 1 3/4 lengths.

I’m afraid the fallibility of the Top Speed has been exposed big time. However, the arguments is dressed up these sort of arbitrary figures cannot be justified. The TS figures should reflect the distances between the runners finishing positions in any true run event. Disappointing but I rather expected these sort of figures so as to fit !

Alexander, those numbers are the official ratings, Topspeed figures haven’t been published yet.

Snowfall TS of 116 with Mystery Angel at 84 according to the RP I’m reading. I’m guessing an OR of 124 to follow.

I’d be a bit wary of that TS figure they have to make adjustments based around various bits and pieces, the going allowance they sort of have to back fit into the times to make them make sense and you see this all the time at Royal Ascot, the Ebor meeting, the Guineas etc I’m convinced they frame the time figures on the whole card around making the main race as high as possible without looking silly.

What that tends to make happen is you get some pretty big numbers for all the races on the whole card compared to a run of the mill meeting – for example yesterday bar Corazon Espinado and Mehmento’s wins which were both obviously stolen from the front end off steady gallops there are 90’s all over the shop and they’ve ended up giving the Woodcote winner a 90 speed figure which isn’t unusual for the race for the reasons I mentioned above but we all know the Woodcote generally isn’t that big a pointer to classy horses as far as 2 year olds go with the notable exceptions of Pinatubo and Buratino did go on to win a Coventry.
