Any thoughts on recent winner Smad Place? Was impressive in winning over 2m4f at Ascot and wouldn’t need to improve too much from that to be considered for a place. Same sire as Nacarat so you would be hopeful he would get the three miles

Think there are several better e/w options to be honest.
February 5, 2012 at 18:33 #389983Colm Murphy hasn’t ruled out Voler la Vadette yet. She probably has a better chance against BB as against Quevega. If Willie Mullins runs the pick of So Young, Zaidpour and MD, and Oscar Whiskey turns up, it will be BBs biggest ever test
February 5, 2012 at 18:37 #389984Really? I’d have thought Grand Crus was as good as any of them.
February 5, 2012 at 18:42 #389986Surely Thousand Stars will give him a run as well? I know TS is understudy for Hurricane Fly, but assuming HF runs in the CH, it would be logical for TS to take on Big Bucks. I would have thought 10-1 odds but I see he is 30-1 on the machine. Does that mean he will skip Cheltenham?
February 8, 2012 at 11:51 #390297Oscar Whisky 99.9% certain to line up in the World Hurdle according to Nicky Henderson. Does that now mean it’s pretty much a non runner…..

Interesting one, but even Nacarat barely gets three miles on a flat track at the top level.
I am not sure what happened to him in the Cleeve, but Five Dream has been doing a fine job of mopping up prize money behind Big Bucks this season. I doubt Paul Nicholls would even give column space to Five Dream in the run-up to the race, so we probably won’t get to know if there was a good excuse.
You know Five Dream will be ridden for second at least, so he may be an each way option if you forgive easily.
February 10, 2012 at 20:02 #390656Do we take anything from Oscar Whiskeys win tonight?
To me it means nothing in the context of the World Hurdle other than confirming he’s alive and well and got a good gallop under his belt.February 10, 2012 at 21:11 #390663Do we take anything from Oscar Whiskeys win tonight?
To me it means nothing in the context of the World Hurdle other than confirming he’s alive and well and got a good gallop under his belt.I must admit I didn’t see it but despite reports I can’t have it as anything more than a racecourse gallop. Correct me if I’m wrong.
February 10, 2012 at 22:30 #390673As premature as it may seem, can anyone see a horse out currently that will turn Big Buck’s over in 2013? I’m not saying I can’t, just want to hear everyone’s opinion on the matter. Interesting point I think, because 5 in a row, for me, may be just out of reach…………

To me it means nothing in the context of the World Hurdle other than confirming he’s alive and well and got a good gallop under his belt. And that if he’s got that much pace to be able to win a 2m bumper so effortlessly, his chances of staying 3m are not great.
February 11, 2012 at 17:05 #390829Mullins’ comments in the Irish Field today, coupled with the prices on Betfair, strongly suggest Thousand Stars will be running in the World Hurdle.
February 11, 2012 at 17:15 #390834I’d be delighted with that Zarkava, would be the biggest danger to Big Bucks. A Big Bucks-Thousand Stars 1-2 would be lovely

He’s still 25-1 on the machine. Strikes me as odd. The World Hurdle is the logical race for him. I would have thought he is likely to be as good as Oscar Whisky over 3 miles so he should be less than 10-1 with a run. Surely the stable lads would be smashing the price if he was going to run.
February 11, 2012 at 21:41 #390874Big Bucks looks home and hosed this year, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he wins next years and the year after. That would take the sequence to 6.
Whatever happens I fully expect to see Big Buck’s name in the title for this race when he has retired.
Enjoy him while you can, he’s simply the best ever staying hurdler.February 11, 2012 at 21:53 #390876Very true. It’s absolutely ridiculous the amount of knockers considering what he’s achieved.
‘He’s never beaten anything and is running in a poor league of staying hurdlers’ – You can only beat what you face, and there’s a point to be made that Big Buck’s may have made decent horses look average.
‘He’s never gone down in trip to face quicker horses’ – Why should he, he’s a staying hurdler. I haven’t seen Hurricane Fly step up in trip to face him, and nor should he, as he’s a 2 miler

No matter where in the world you go, these top horses will always get their knockers. Like Frankel, staying at a mile and not impressing 100% of the public, ridiculous. And Black Caviar, before this year, not straying outside of Australia, again, absurd.
The fact of the matter is, no matter how good the horse is, it is never going to be as gratefully received by the public as it should. People should appreciate these greats while they are still around and in their prime.

Yes but that price is considerably shorter than the 90 for him to win the Champion.
