Perhaps all creations have their prime, virtual or otherwise?

I do miss some of the more mouthy/contentious characters…I don’t know what the balance should be on any internet forum.

Surely offensive or unreasonable will always be subjective…and we cannot vote on every post…although we could try AV.

The future must be about new blood, and hoping to catch a rich stream of varied posters. You need common sense but you also need a little bit of cage-rattling IMHO – both require sound argument if they are going to survive TRF dissection!

I could start swearing at posters and insinuate I’ve slept with one of their relatives?

I used to be an avid reader of this forum. I’m of a nervous disposition, so reading this forum took my mind off of things. I was ready to take the plunge not so long ago after being offline for a short period of time. Once i came back the forum had changed. There were advertisements that weren’t there previously, and the tone of the forum had changed. I came on here to learn about racing, not to be offered Cheeseburger discounts in Glasgow, or fish pedicures as there’s nothing wrong with my feet, only my gambling. I then read the notebook section, where to my alarm i saw a poster named Mr Wilson threatening other posters with acts of violence, and at the risk of sounding weak, i was disturbed by his foul and abusive tones towards other members of that section whos names escape me. Strangely enough he still posts and appears to be taking the moral high ground over others. I can’t help but think that members are being removed due their their lack of contacts in racing, lack or higher education and even possibly lack of contacts within the racing church as a whole. I suspect the sponsor money must be pretty good in order for admin to readily remove lesser society from this forum. My view, of which i suspect means nothing, is that the forum has went from a well balanced outlet for general banter and good posts, especially in the big race section, to a more elitist outlet over a gradual process.

I have to agree with the above post.

This forum has me in mind of a Gentleman’s club in Mayfair where members sit around a fire idly gossiping in their blazers and slippers whilst being served Sherry by Jeeves.

It has lost all it’s spark since TAPK and Fist were ejected. Take a look at the Big Race Discussion page and you will see so few posts about the Guineas or Derby. This only days before the first classics.

I am sure it is just a lull and will pick up again and it is certainly run by the right person.

Perhaps it’s just too high brow for me and I’ll prefer it when I reach my fiftie or sixties!

Being new to this forum (but not others) i have taken it as how i have found it and intentionally not looked back at older posts.

From what i have witnessed to date (4 weeks or so) it is a far less personal forum than others BUT in many ways far more informative than most.

Once you make the effort to communicate people slowly respond and that is all you can ask. There are some very good posters and i fully enjoy the forum.

    :)

Isn’t that exactly the opposite of what Bobby Bloggs was argueing? Both Fist and TAPK have been equally as confrontational as Mr Wilson (if not more so).

Better a gentlemen’s club than a city centre pub whose patrons end up fighting in the streets at closing time.

No idea if Fist & TAPK were confrontational only with each other or towards relatively innocent by-standers, too.

If the former, then ‘so what?’ & don’t ban them.
If the latter, then ‘behave or else.’

Guess it was the latter & they were ‘or elsed’. If so, good call.

Plenty of interesting posts on here … can’t name too many posters, but Zarkava, Robert of the 1-a-Day-Previews, Gingertipster, AP, Mr Wilson come easily to mind. There are others, just giving those for now.

Not really. I can’t see how threats can be interpreted as a lesser forum offence than silly banter. Anyway i will revert back to reading instead of posting. I’m not a member of a gentlemans club. I’ve no higher education, no stocks, shares or bonds. Although thanks to this forum i will soon have a fish pedicure and a cheeseburger with a great discount.

Both at the same time? Now there’s an idea for a money making venture, perhaps.

Very good Jonibake,it would be nice if a few more winners could be posted too for those of us who used to feed from the crumbs of Fists and Kings table.Mr Wilson may not be as popular as the other 2 but at least he has a modesty and freely admits he’s still learning the game, its good to see i’m not alone though in saying the ‘Rock n Roll’ tempo of the forum has gone a bit ‘Folk’ like.

Plenty winners posted here on some highly profitable threads Oh So Sharp. You just have to seek them out.

You can see my problem though. On the one hand I have people accusing me of running a gentlemena’s club where a higher education and a portfolio of stocks/bonds are required (that is a new one???????) while on the other I’m levelled with the charge that the nature of debate has lost its gravitas and has gone too lowbrow.

I think everyone does appreciate that balance i stricky to maintain and I very much appreciate the kind comments made by those on this thread. I know I do make misjudgements on moderation/banning issues but it is tricky and (usually) there’s no one answer that will suit everyone.

Fist called me a twat once. I was offended until Binocular won the Champion Hurdle & he made me look like one!

(Apologies for the swear, I thought the filter my block it. Although if the filter had blocked it, it would look like Fist called me something far worse!)

Me being violent, that’s a new one.

Will have to watch myself in future, in fear of upsetting people.

Apologise if you have been deeply distressed and put off the forum with my violent temper.

I am the first to admit i am a useless tipster,i used to follow Newsboy form the Mirror religously but i have been a regular reader of this forum for several years and have been fortunate enough to have followed a couple of excellent judges on here. I backed ‘Dont Push it’ for the National last year purely on the fact that this horse had got some rave reviews from a contributor on here.I also backed ‘Diamond Harry’ for the Hennessey because again this horse had been well touted on here,i even had 5 consecutive bets on your selections under your Dangerous Dave logo. They all lost.

I still think a lot of you are missing the point, the chatroom was and could still be the place where you can get the community vibe back, I will try to be in there on Friday night about 9 – 10 pm to discuss Saturdays racing and general rubbish thats gone on this week. Always a good laugh oh and for those wanting a winner Meanus Dandy will win the Whitbread on Saturday( or whatever its called these days) 14-1 is huge huge huge, in fact a topic for discussion could be how Rubbish that race has become. Ha, good old Dangerous. He’s a bit like Mark Johnston, ‘Always Trying’. And one of Mark’s gave me a 10/11 loser today so I’m already up against it this flat season.

Wasn’t suggesting for a second DD was one of the profitable ones to follow though! But there

    are

some seriously good judges in Lays and Plays, Trends and Systems sections. Seriously good.
