Some may have called it punters paranoia when i said the market was being manipulated by bookies, who i suspect pretend there’s money for a horse when there isn’t, but the so called gamble on Cooldine may prove otherwise. It got hammered into favouritism, and Mullins said he doesn’t know where the money has come. Now, it could simply be that Mullins does know and he obviously doesn’t want to let on, but i’m inclinded to think there wasn’t much money, and Cooldine is a bookies decoy. It happens more and more. If the horse wins, i will happily eat my own words with a slice of that good old humble pie.
The weekend has some nice races, and more importantly horses that i have a festival interest in. It could be grim reaper time if they don’t run well. I’m talking about Dunguib, Captain Cee Bee and Binocular.
My bank account at the moment reads zero, but if it didn’t i’d think about going back in for Binocular. You’d think McCoy wouldn’t need to be on him for Saturday, and run on Captain Cee Bee instead. So, either he’s just attached to the horse, or they are expecting a good run from him in March if he gets there. Surely the Captain needs him on board more than Bincular does ?
Interesting races ahead in the next few days.
February 7, 2010 at 19:32 #274751Keenes won fairly comfortably in the end. I does like me drifters.

February 7, 2010 at 21:02 #274785I felt like one or two nutty bets because i had a couple of bob left in an account. I’m just so chuffed that Joncol got up to do the business. I deserved that for sheer persistence and ante post bottle. I will keep on digging away and hope for re-couperation.

February 9, 2010 at 15:06 #275146Incase Long run goes really well, and my big gamble on Masterminded doesn’t materialise, i’ll have a bash at doubling another couple up. I’m chasing shadows here. I just wish the festival would hurry up and start to be honest, at the press of a button.

February 9, 2010 at 16:53 #275176I think i may have to concentrate on the Triumph now. I’m not 100% happy with my other bets to be honest. I still like Big Zeb, Voy Por Ustedes, Pandorama and Finian’s rainbow. However, at this point i don’t think i have any money on them, which is a pitty. It kind of irritates me a little.
There’s a horse coming over from Australia called Gorge. I took a fiver at 84/1 for the Alber B nov hurdle. Chances are it won’t be anywhere near good enough to get within a mile of the festival, but there’s only one way to find out.

February 12, 2010 at 12:19 #275805I backed a drifter at 8/1 called Singapore Reef in the first at Kempton. I’d be looking for a good run, but a drifter in a big handicap isn’t a good sign. I still went for it none the less. I’d also be looking for Big Fella Thanks 10/3 to give Duc a fright in the 345 at Kempton as well.
Tomorrow is the Totesport, and i need an interest. That comes in the form of Manyriverstocross 12/1, and Getmeoutofhere 9/1.
I hope Masterminded gets on well. He’s my biggest festival gamble, but i get a feeling something might not go right. I also hope Denman retains his re-appearance form. It would be fantastic if they both done the business, and went to the festival for their respective showdowns. Racing needs them.
February 12, 2010 at 16:27 #275862No joy at kempton. I thought big Fella thanks was coming well into it, before he came down.
I’ve went back in for Rite of Passage for the Neptune 5/1, before the odds took a cut. Some of those firms are going 3/1 can you believe, despite the fact he might not even go to Cheltenham. I went and took 5s. One problem is that i still like Finians Rainbow, so i might look to do something with him. I wouldn’t rule out Quantativeeasing either, that race could be a JP special.

February 12, 2010 at 16:45 #275867Quote from Henderson :-
"Speaking on At The Races, the trainer said: "Everyone thinks this is a trial for the Arkle, but it’s 99 per cent certain he’ll run in the RSA."
From being unsure of where he will go, he is now 99% sure it will be the RSA. Some punters must be absolutely pulling their hair out.
I really can’t comprehend these people sometimes. I’m not badly stung because mine were mostly savers. Some people must have thought he was nailed on for the Arkle, and backed him well.

Brilliant. I needed that win like you wouldn’t believe. Both ran well, and the better money was on the winner.

I guess i’ll have a small bash at something today. W P Mullins says Ebadiyan is the one to beat, but i see it differently. I think his horse, Mourad, is the one to beat, along with ninetieth minute. I doubled them both up with Osana !
February 14, 2010 at 14:42 #276596I was right with regards to Mullins talking absolute mince about Ebadiyan, and the punters never listened either as they put him down to 11/10. Unfortunately nobody saw War of Attrition running another big race and doing the lot of them.
February 16, 2010 at 16:47 #277178Today is my birthday, so what better way to celebrate than to have some bets that the lunatic fringe would be proud of ? I had a lovely 4/1 shot come in called Tail of the bank, in the 210 @ Newcastle. It’s amazing how a horse, a bit of mud and a jockey can liven up your day in this instance.
I don’t normally put football bets up here, but i’m accumulating some with the Arkle, so i’ll shove them up. The bookmakers continue to under estimated Man Utds chances of winning the Champions League. At the moment they are as big as 9/1, but after tonight, or after the second leg, you’ll be luck to get half of that. The following bets involves the Champs League, the arkle and the world cup.

February 17, 2010 at 15:55 #277396The grim reaper finally caught up with me as predicted, and a couple of runners have been scratched. I was very hopeful for binocular, but that’s the way things go, and something was always going to go wrong. It might not be the end of the bad luck either, but this is what happens. Zaynar must have a proper chance seeing as Gerraghty is taking him over Punjabi it would seem. A bookmaker owns the champion hurdle favourite, and is making it as difficult as they can. They have nicely collected money on all other potential horse in the champion race, right until the last minute, before giving possibly best horse in the race a run. This is what you call taking people for a walk in my book. It’s no coincidence that Zaynar has only had one run thus far. In taking money for all his own horses competitors, Vic Chandler has stopped people from backing Zaynar by lowering his odds to 3/1 or 7/2, when everyone else was going 5’s. I wonder if he has already taken more than what the prize money for the Champion Hurdle actually is worth, on every other horse, other than his own ?
Time for some more of what people would call ‘mug bets’. Then again, was nosey a mug for fighting Napoleon ? was Robert de Bruce a mug for fighting Edward II ? and was Christopher Columbus a mug after he got lost ?
On a brighter note, i thought Rite of Passage ran very well, and has to have a very good chance in the neptune. Knowing my luck though, something will go wrong !

I am not a layer. If i have a chance to win something going into the world cup, i will look to back opposing sides, instead of laying off my own bet. There’s no such thing as a losing bet if you can cover your loses well enough.

February 18, 2010 at 10:56 #277550I couldn’t refuse a bet or two at Meydan today. One i took because i think it has a better chance than the odds suggest, and the other because i thought the odds were reasonable. The first one is Aichi 6/1 in the 415, which i think has a decent chance actually. The second is a horse that pulls, and probably needs the run, but at 12/1 i thought i’d have a go at Perfect Stride 12/1 in the 605. I’d hope that they could fight for places. Aichi would be my more hopeful bet.
It’s time to delve into the ante-post world once again, partly because i can’t get enough of these kind of bets, and partly because very few other kind of bets appeal to me just now. One involves the mother of all covers, at big odds, incase the Irish pull a quick one again.

The mother of all covers in case the Irish get fly again. Remember loyal reader, or readers, don’t try this at home, or you’ll end up in a caravan park. Rite of Passage will only go to the Supreme if Dunguib goes to the Champion, need i explain ?

£10 doubleI was going to add in the running total, until i quickly realised that if i add 3 quid to it, it will add up to a number with what i believe is great significance to the Irish people. February 19, 2010 at 22:49 #277953I’m running rings round myself with so many combinations, but i can’t help not knowing what is going to turn up, or what might not make it. I hope i don’t need to add any more after this, but i guess it’s a learning curve. There’s the cliche that people use in betting with regards to ante posts, and that is when someome says ‘so much can happen from now until the event’, never a truer word spoken. In a way i don’t regret it though, because at least with picking numerous selections, i can cater for pull outs.
I made some bets this morning, which concern Mikael D’Haguenet. It could still be that he’s squeezed for time. However, i remember specific comments from W P Mullins, and double checked them, and the belief is that this particular horse should take to the jumps because he’s had experience of them in France, and apparently it comes natural to him. Therefore, it could be that his run next week(if he goes) could be his only prep before heading to Cheltenham. I’m as much in the dark as anyone else, so it’s all speculative guess work from here. The not knowing costs some of us a few quid.

£3 doubleWatch with much hilarity, when in the next few days Mullins tells us that he had no intention of sending him to the festival, or if he is going he will go hurdling.

This thread is shaping up like a Billy Connolly joke. You know the one where he talks about a plane heading into the ocean, but before heading to the bottom of the Atlantic you should remember to put your seat belt on ? … in other words i’m ****** !!!

The new running total is the same as the year Guinea got independence from France. Maybe one day i will gain my independence from the clutches of stupidity.

February 20, 2010 at 04:37 #277981Christ, Goldilocks, I thought you were anti-English, and there you are putting bets on them for the World Cup.
Is that your way of putting the mockers on them?
February 20, 2010 at 09:38 #277992I suppose i could be construed as anti-English Geraldine, if you have skin as thin as a piece of tracing paper floating down a burst river bank.
