I really hope you’re right about Dunguib going for the CH. I’ve bet on him at some decent prices. I actually wonder if he isn’t the closest we’ll see to Himself… He looks as if he wouldn’t mind doing another lap or two of the track at the end of his races, carrying the others on back. But perhaps he’s just another Golden Cygnet. Or maybe Mikael D’H. We don’t really know how good he is, do we?

I’m disappointed Long Run doesn’t seem to be aimed for the Arkle, unless the course is very soft. Doesn’t happen too often, does it?

Another quasi-banker oversight Imperial Call’s Irish thread reminded me of is Tranquil Sea.

Look what happened to poor Golden Cygnet when he stepped out of novice company. Philip will keep Dunguib to the Supreme and take on the likes of Solwhit/Punjabi/Go Native at Punchestown.

I suppose they’re so used to taking their obstacles at speed unerringly that when they do make a slight error, the effects can be catastrophic. Perhaps their first and last mistake but at speed and quite blithely. I believe it happened to a brilliant young chaser called Killiney.

Your column on Irish horses reminded me of Tranquil Sea, which I failed to mention among my Cheltenham quasi-bankers. The bigger priced ones tend to excite me more! Just a pity they don’t come in that often.

Trainer again insists Dunguib won’t be going for the Champion Hurdle:

.. but also said, "Well, you know if enough of the good ones drop out… most unfortunate of course… but it happens… We’re still declaring it at the next stage… in case" (not verbatim).

I cling to my hopes. Though I wouldn’t want it at the cost of a horse’s life.

2 years ago i had a good Ante-Post bet on Thetotherone to win the Albert Bartlett at 12/1,he came round the bend full of running but was outstayed up the hill by

    Nenuphar Collonges

who i backed at 14/1,all of 10 minutes before the race,(he had solid form with another favourite of mine Razor Royale). At the off Nenuphar was backed into 9/1! Money talks at the festival! I know Mr King has Bensalem in this years William Hill chase and he is defineately the dark horse of the race, but i like the look of Nenuphars profile for this, particularly being a stone better off with Thetotherone on the Bartlett running over hurdles, 25/1 with William Hills is a cracking e/w price!Followers of the King. March into battle!

Can he be a "dark horse" if he is disputing favouritism?

I use the term "Dark horse" in this instance as i can see Bensalem either hacking up or falling,he has only ever ran in Novice events,so this would be a test for a novice in his first handicap,i dont doubt he is a progressive individual with a touch of class, who wouldn"t be out of place in the RSA,but it could go either way with him,so i am in the "Dark" so to speak!I know what Nenophar is capable of and strictly on his ratings a repeat of last years 3rd would be good enough to win this year!30"s on the machine is too big Colin Get On! :)

The legend of the turf had a night off from studying yesterday and went to the legendary

    Rock City in Nottingham

to see the even more Legendary rock band

    The Stranglers

and they were as brilliant as ever.Nottingham has always been loyal to the band and a huge crowd were rewarded with "JJ" hammering that Gibson Bass of his.Dave Greenfield "warbling" with his keyboards,Old Jet Black still keeping it all in time on the drums at 72 years of age and Baz,razor sharp on the Telecaster and doing justice to Hugh cornwells lyrics! The Professionals, Professionals these boys! No more Heroes,Grip, London lady,Something better change,Hanging around,5 minutes, Nice n Sleazy,Peaches and Golden Brown! Unbelievable! Anyone who has never had the pleasure of a night with The Stranglers has missed out in life! TAPK is never short of confidence but after listening to the Meninblack,i"m buzzin!"Come an av a go if you think you"re hard enough"!

The Grand Annual is the target for N,Hendersons French Opera again this year, for obvious reasons! I have a sneaky feeling that the enigmatic

    Moon over Miami

could surprise! He is a stone better off with last years winner and at the weights should have a hell of a chance of reversing the form!

    46

on the machine is like tempting me with "Window shopping" in Amsterdam! Get stuck in!

Grimethorpe day tomorrow,i look forward to "Pricewise" redeeming himself after last weeks strange selection! I have been waiting for

    Cloudy Bay

to run in this and looking at the conditions of the race,i see nothing to put me off! I have had £30 on at 13"s on the machine and £10 e/w at 12"s with Ladbrokes,if this horse does not go off single figures tomorrow,i know **** all about horse racing! I have also invested in a horse that looks thrown in at Newbury,in fact it would be an across the card double for Mr Hemmings as i see

    Battlecry

as my bet of the meeting at Newbury, this fellow ran a cracker in the RSA against one of my favourite horses a couple of years ago in Albertas Run! I have taken 8"s on the machine!

Dissapointed with both Cloudy Bay and Battlecry today,3rd place would have done for cloudy and yet he couldn"t even beat Coe! That certainly makes him look average! Counting down the days to Cheltenham now and those of us with fancy prices on our horses will be checking the RP website more often than usual as we will no doubt see several big names miss their engagements at the last minute!

At least Cloudy Lane got round today, and they probably weren’t going to give him too hard a race against his owners other horse when it was obvious he wouldn’t win. His price has still come in a bit for the National [pity his weight couldn’t have come down also]. They were very keen on his chances last year, So I’m not tearing up my ante post slip yet.

Moe it just shows you my obsession with Wine,i called

    Cloudy lane

, Cloudy Bay twice! Funny how i was drinking a bottle Friday night when i posted,Cloudy Bay is one of the finest Sauvignon blancs money can buy,a crisp appley flavour with a hint of holihocks! From the North of the South island of New Zealand! Cloudy lane is more like a "Blue nun" leaves a sour taste in the mouth! :(

A bit like Cloudy lane, Cloudy Bay ain’t what it used to be either. IMO. Expanded the vineyards too much too quickly but I take your point. :)

Cloudy Bay was once regarded as the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world,i personally think its too acidic,i much prefer a Grand Cru Chardonnay, different class Kopwas, what do you think?
