Consul De Thaix available at 90 for the Supreme right now, which is downright insane.

More than any other race why not wait for the day? It seems people back one talking horse, then the next and the next. There is no outstanding horse this season. The way things are going it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if something emerged very close to the Festival. Sky Bet must be loving it. No wonder they went NRNB.

Say, for example, from the Betfair Hurdle? ;)

The form of Elgin on display (kind of) up at Kelso today. Think he’s potentially over-priced at 25s. Beat a nice sort of Malcolm Jefferson’s on Fighting Fifth Day at Newcastle.

And fwiw I spoke to Nicky Henderson at Huntingdon on Friday; Jenksin had fluid drained from his leg after the race and returns to his work next week.

I looked at his races last week but although he got the job done there wasn’t enough spark to persuade me to back him. Would like to see him do something on a stiffer track. Have a feeling even in what looks a poor year he is candidate for sixth or seventh and there is also a fair possibility he could skip Cheltenham for easier pickings at Aintree.

Took 7/1 Moon Racer a while back on the basis that it looks a poor race.

And with MR you know what you are gonna get and I expect Ballyandy to run AB.

Not looking a particularly high class renewal in my honest opinion.

This race is so tough still not a proper standout this close to the festival. I was on Jenkins before the season kicked off at 16’s and he was looking good until last time out, it now appears there was a problem found afterwards which is a bit of a relief. It looks like it’s touch and go if he’ll make it or not but if he does and he can brush up on his jumping he has a serious engine and should be in the mix.

I’ve spotted one that I like as an outside shot with the race being so open although I don’t think he’s a certain runner, could be aimed at the Neptune. The horse is Ben Paulings High Bridge I threw a few quid at him on betfair @85’s win and @12’s place before he won on Thursday.

He was 6th in the champion bumper rite up there fighting it out before he seemed to go out like a light over the last 200 yards or so. He won his maiden hurdle comfortably on G/S ground at Newbury and put the race to bed quickly on Thursday at Catterick drawing clear of Top Tug by 9 lengths. Reading the comments I can find from Pauling he did suggest they will keep him to 2 miles for now but may consider stepping him up come March so it’s a bit of a gamble.

I’m hoping with the race looking so weak at the moment he may be tempted to keep him at 2 miles. I believe he mentioned the Dovcote as a possible step up in class for him.

Top Tug’s a bit of a slowboat. Without the 7lb claim, I’m not 100% sure High Bridge have won, but I haven’t watched the race since. Big jockey concern but at 85s/12s is fair.

A lot of people are saying “it’s an open race this year”, which is true, but there are two months to go til the start of the season. We’re talking about novice hurdlers, young improving horses. Plenty of time for something to come along and stamp his/her authority on the race.

I think ironically I’d rule out two of the Grade 1 novice hurdle winners we’ve had! (Finian’s Oscar + Any Second)

Cilaos Emery seems likely to be Mullin’s best hope now. Impressive last time out and form with Joey Sasa is strong. 8/1 NRNB with SkyBet seems fair. But I’m tempted by the 25/1 about Bunk Of Early for the same stable. Modest but not poor on the flat he made a visually good impression winning his only hurdle start to date at Leopardstown on Boxing Day under Walsh. Expectations were seemingly high and accounted for what could be a decent horse for Joseph O’Brien. It will be interesting to see where he goes next.

I like Consul De Thaix at a price. Took 90’s on the exchange where you can still get 42’s. I think both second place finishes behind Brain Power deserve a lot of respect.

MELON could be making his long awaited debut for Willie Mullins at Gowran next Thursday.

Where did you hear that? Hopefully he does; have a few pound on him to win any race at the festival

He’s declared up in a maiden hurdle on the 26th. Mullins has another 3 or 4 declared at this point including c’est jersey who has been dissapointing, but is half decent. Melon supposedly is the real deal but i don’t know why they’ve struggled to get him to the track. I see Paddy Power have sliced it from 16s to 12s this morning. If you watch some of his French flat runs,he looks a bit of a brute – ideal for chasing next season. I’ve backed it at 20s a few months ago along with crack mome at 50s courtesy of bet365

Personally think Elgin has been a tad flattered mainly because of Jenkins poor showing and I think neon wolf will go close tomorrow

Have to applaude you for admitting this upfront though!
