In all my years involved with racing, never seen a card like this.
Six races, twenty four runners, equally shared out – four in each race.
Not a great card for Placepot fans.
Or anybody else really.
November 16, 2024 at 12:11 #1712890Another race had only 3 declared so now a 6 race card instead of 7
November 16, 2024 at 12:16 #1712891The current going is “good”. Obviously far too dangerous.
November 16, 2024 at 12:34 #1712903I have just received an email from Plumpton. It advises me to “Join us for six competitive races”.
10/10 for effort.
November 16, 2024 at 12:34 #1712904Seems to be the way of things Wetherby today averages 4.7 per race.
The more I know the less I understand.
November 16, 2024 at 12:54 #1712908And then trainers and owners whine about prize money.
Maybe it would be better if the punters who do so much to fund the sport had something worth betting on.
November 16, 2024 at 13:36 #1712918If you have a horse that can’t race on genuine good ground then I suggest you have a horse that shouldn’t be racing full stop.
When the ground is proper soft you always hear trainers throw out that old chesnut of ‘he/she will be a better horse on better ground’ but for some reason they have it in their minds that good ground = unsafe.
Granted we are early into the season, but you can bet that if the weather gods decide to get involved (i.e. suggest rain and then it doesn’t come) and it ended up with ground like this come Festival time, you wouldn’t hear bubkus from trainers about it being unsafe….likely most (bar the ones that want it heavy) would say that it is lovely safe jumping ground for all………you simply can’t win regardless.
Small fields due to unseasonably quick ground is not a new phenomenon and Graham Cunningham even stated on RUK at Wetherby that today’s meeting a few years back had the same ground conditions yet had more than double the 33 total runners it has today.
November 16, 2024 at 13:39 #1712920Your forgot Exeter: seven races 28 runners. Three races with only three runners. Going described as Good and Good to Firm in places.
