That was going to be my second guess, as a joke! I looked it up, and the favourites were 4/1.
March 7, 2009 at 01:10 #214001I have a feeling it was Cool Dawn, but I get horses’ names mixed up.
Forgive N’ Forget won the Coral Cup or the Sun Alliance Nov Hurdle I think.

Forgive N Forget won the Coral Golden Hurdle, which is now the Pertemps. Shawiya and Kibreet are the other answers.

Darre, for what it’s worth. Kilmore won the 1962 National under the great Fred Winter, Mill House won the 1963 Gold Cup and was second to the great Arkle in the next two and Mandarin won the 1962 Gold Cup and a remarkable Grand Steeple Chase De Paris when the bit broke at the third fence and then the horse broke down on the run to the last. It was top of the poll in Racing Post’s greatest rides poll. Fred Winter worked marvels. the picture of him jumping the Rivier Au Tribune that appeared in the Daily Express is one of my first memories of steeplechasing. I was shown it by my father I was four at the time.

I suspect that is true and I reckon it coincided with the introduction of park fences on the Mildmay course …., he said like a dog with a bone.
