Dermot Weld should land a first and last race double on the opening day of the Galway Festival with

    FORCE OF HABIT

in the novice hurdle who also has an entry on the flat later in the week and the highly regarded bumper,

    FORT DEFIANCE

    Two Winners 5-1 & 2-1

I’ve also pinpointed two on the flat at Galway tomorrow, that I’m quite keen on and I feel both have very good chances, one is in the region of 6-1, the other approx 20-1, I’ll list their names in my flat thread closer to the off as I may be using one in the bet 365Nap competition

    3rd 10-1 (bog) 2nd 20-1

Profit on the jumps today £199.69 Plus £103.44 on the flat, the perfect start to Galway

Can only see two to back tonight at Galway, I’ve had a yankee with three at Goodwood to try to get some running up money on UNIVERSAL TRUTH. The current odds look skinny but I’m hoping there will be a gamble on Drumfire. That’s one to lay in my opinion, he’s very flattered by his second to Profound Beauty, the mare won in a hack canter and something had to be second, I’d advise using Spinning wings as a benchmark for Drumfire’s form

Only other one that caught my eye is TAWNIES in the second, he’s got far more heart than ability but is nevertheless a fairly useful chaser and is a superb jumper of fences so a good run for my cash can be expected.

Bet placed and edit at 13.44 £5 EW TAWNIES @ 14-1 (BestOdds)

I’ve got £50 odd pounds win money running up on UNIVERSAL TRUTH and a similar amount of place money from flat bets at Goodwood so that’s probably all my bets placed for the day as I’m off dog walking after the first at Galway :D

One NH bet today MAJESTIC CONCORDE who, in my opinion, only needs a clear round to win. He looks thrown in at the weights, it amazes me that he’s getting weight from the likes of Nedzer’s Return and Backstage

Stakes later depending on how my earlier flat bets pan out

Plenty of running up money on Majestic Concorde from the flat so no need to bet again

Best NH bet of the day appears to be OVERTURN who looks to be a very useful hurdler in the making, possibly a Champion Hurdle contender and if he’s going to be anything like that good he has to win The Galway Hurdle in some style. Much as I love Luska Lad I cannot see him give weigh to Overturn
PRINCE ERIK looks to be Dermot Weld’s best bet today, he’s a trainer I’ve always held in the highest regard and I like to think I know which ones to bet on, so far I’m 5 out of 5 on my Rosewell House bets at Galway this year.
MAD JACK DUNCAN looked a very good horse in the making when winning last time out, while he looks to have it all to do at the weights he has one of the best claimers in the business on his back and should prove too good for tomorrow’s opposition

Small each way this afternoon on one I’ve been following, KING ROCCO in The Mallow Hurdle at Cork. Winner of both his points he wasn’t given much of a ride on his racecourse debut in a decent Hunter chase and was hampered when just starting to make up some ground and far from out of contention. He ran on well to finish 6th. He ran much closer to the pace when looking the likely winner turning into the straight on his hurdle debut finishing second to Galway winner Persian Gayle, the first two well clear of the third. Slightly dissapointing fourth last time out, today’s distance should him suit better but this is a tougher race.
    Stakes later

    EDIT 12.47pm £8.66 EW

As I feared the class was a bit too high for King Rocco (4th). There’s a race in him that’s for sure, maybe a novice chase? Plenty marked support today, the winner was twice beaten fav at The Punchestown Festival.

    Lost £17.32
One we’ve been waiting for…. The Fox’s Frolic may make his handicap debut this week. He has been given a very fair OR of 92 and should be able to win off that mark.
He’s entered in a 3m1f H’cap chase at Wexford on Friday night. This could be the time to get on.
