I look at the BHA stewards rooms daily. It does make interesting reading.
Howvever it never ceases to amaze me that the same thing is stated every time which is “They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the performance. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.”
    Why?
Could they not give more, for example the horse travelled badly to the races so that could be the reason or the horse box broke down and we were stuck on the A1 for 3 hours so that could be the reason.
It just seems a stock answer that the Stewards just accept.
    Any views?

    Should have ones like-

“Having heard the trainer’s representative’s evidence, they accepted the explanation that the yard laid the horse place til the cows come home, and they duly joined in the all nighter back at the owners house”

“The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner who was tailed off its previous ten outings, they accepted the horse improved with the application of lots of the connections win bets”

“The Stewards considered the running of Blablabla which started favourite and finished twelth beaten 300 lengths. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance, other than the trainer has the horse aimed at one of the handicaps at the festival”

Brilliant Viltash, but seriously i’d like to see it given when a horse has had a wind op. notice to us public as that often happens as an explanation we are totally not aware of when one romps in.

there is a flip side of course – eg this news release by HKJC following barrier trials:

    RAPPER DRAGON (V082)

    02/12/2016

The Stewards have spoken to Dr Peter Curl, Executive Manager, Veterinary Regulation, regarding RAPPER DRAGON, trained by Mr John Moore, which finished tailed out in batch 2 of this morning’s Sha Tin barrier trials.

Dr Curl explained that a thorough veterinary examination of RAPPER DRAGON had been conducted immediately following the barrier trial which had shown no obvious abnormalities. RAPPER DRAGON was again re-examined by the Veterinary Officer this afternoon and Dr Curl has confirmed that this examination had again found the horse to have no obvious abnormalities.

The Stewards have also spoken to Mr Moore regarding this matter. Mr Moore confirmed that RAPPER DRAGON appeared to be in good order after this morning’s barrier trial and therefore he intends to continue with the horse’s current preparation.

RAPPER DRAGON, which is currently under an Official Veterinary Examination (OVE) restriction, will undergo its OVE following a gallop on Monday, 5 December 2016. A further release will be released at that time.
