Now the nerves are building. When you get a horse like Frankel the emotions are just amazing you sort of get scared stiff of him running because you really don’t want the bubble to burst.
No financial interest for me but the nerviest race of the meeting by an absolute billion miles. I don’t think they’ll let him win in the same fashion as he won the Guineas – just so long as he wins and does it nicely I’ll be happy.
COME ON FRANKEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 14, 2011 at 14:38 #360679Frankel for the Canford double
come on you beast!!!!
June 14, 2011 at 14:50 #360684June 14, 2011 at 14:51 #360685Lol BB, had the exact same double, 11/4.
Well that was hardly impressive. The mid-race whoosh was great, but he’s only just held on. He was seriously flattered by the Guineas and I maintain that he is not as good as everybody thinks. He’s hardly won like a 1/3 shot should. These 3yos are just not good.
June 14, 2011 at 14:52 #360686Got the job done but Queally has got to start to realise he’s not riding a five furlong race he was knackered again at the finish, Frankel.
Just hold on to him until three out FFS!
June 14, 2011 at 14:54 #360687That was a bit workmanlike. If Zoffany had been mid-division instead of at the back he could have won.
June 14, 2011 at 14:54 #360689I was very keen on
Zoffany
for the 2000 guineas.
I can see no reason why he won’t stay eight furlongs, taking into consideration what I have seen on the racecourse. He had every right to need his first race back after suffering a bout of colic and the ground has remained in his favour.
He holds entries over a variety of trips (6f – 12f), but Aidan O’Brien nominated this race after his seasonal return and I think he holds an outstanding each way chance.
If Zoffany was ridden with a bit more conviction he may well have beaten Frankel.
I told you how good Zoffany was in the build up to Newmarket and he proved me correct today.
June 14, 2011 at 15:04 #360692Lets no forget that Zoffany was a very good 2yr old. However he was held up to get the trip and was stone last meaning he was moving through the carnage that was in front of him.
Tom Queally made a mess of that race and still won. They have to hold him up now. No Horse can be expected to race from the front and win all the time.
My Heart missed a 2 beats their at the half furlong marker

If Zoffany was ridden with a bit more conviction he may well have beaten Frankel.
Or he might have been treading water in the final furlong, having exerted too much energy trying to lay up with the pace? I have a distinct feeling that Zoffany was flattered today, running on through beaten horses.
As for Frankel, he clearly wasn’t in the same form today as he had been at Newmarket. It’s possible that he’s never going to reach those heights again; however, I wouldn’t be surprised if the horse is delivered later next time, as it looked to me that he may well have been idling in front today. That, combined with the fact that Frankel jinked at something on the way to post, suggests that he’s still quite green and immature mentally.
June 14, 2011 at 15:10 #360694Tom Queally looked a nervous wreck in the stalls and yet again he let the occasion get to him by panicking and going for home far too soon.
If you had watched Sir Henry Cecil explaining the tactics to Prince Khalid Abdullah in the paddock, it was obvious that he was telling him that the intention was to hold Frankel up on a tight rein UNTIL the straight and then unleash him.
Sir Henry he wouldn’t have needed to look so worried in the final furlong had his jockey shown more restraint and confidence.
Henry looked a bit shell shocked after the race. I think, like the rest of us, he expected Frankel to have won with more authority. In my opinion, he would would have done – had a top class jockey been aboard !
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
June 14, 2011 at 15:12 #360696I agree with Himself Tom Queally looks like the pressure is getting to him a bit he looks very panicky.
June 14, 2011 at 15:12 #360697Sir Henry won’t be pleased with Queally, whatever he may say in public. Tom really must learn to judge pace better. Almost got a horse with a stone in hand beat there. Yet again, the horse settled in last place became Frankel’s closest pursuer. Zoffany improved, but flattered in his closeness. Had Zoffany been kept nearer to the pace, he probably would not have finished that close. Pacemaker goes off too fast and is ignored. If Queally wants to go in to second fine, but when the pace is very good, then why go for it that soon? They said afterwards the plan was to take it up just before the turn.
I just hope Frankel gets over this race quickly.
Value Is EverythingJune 14, 2011 at 15:17 #360698As Himself had pointed Queally looks like he was a nervous wreck and how can blame him with Abdullah/Cecil staring you down.
Tom needs confidence and he obviously is going out to make sure the horse wins regardless of whether its suits the animal or not.
Disappointing that Tom does not have the confidence to trust his natural talent.
June 14, 2011 at 15:20 #360699^^He didn’t have to lay up with the pace, just placed a few lengths closer in midfield. He was last turning in and made up a staggering amount of ground.
I don’t know how anyone can assume Zoffany was flattered. He was a very good 2YO and I insisted that he had the most potent turn of foot before he was taken out at Newmarket.
The reaction to Frankel’s victory has been slightly exaggerated, in my opinion. I hear the word ‘great’ being used far too often – he’s on his way, but there was only one true great on show today and that was Goldikova and she was beaten by, in my opinion, the best miler in the world.
June 14, 2011 at 15:21 #360701On that evidence the Timeform rating needs a serious downgrade.
Rather than criticising Queally I would suggest his tactics were the reason Frankel got home in front. It looks to me that Frankel is a serious galloper who doesn’t possess an instant change of pace and consequently unless he obtained a break would be vulnerable to a rival quickening past him.
Best of the three year olds for now but for how much longer?
June 14, 2011 at 15:23 #360704a very interesting race indeed.
lets not forget that although frankel was labouring his time wasn’t far off the course record.
however, i personally don’t think frankel is as versatile as people think he is.
June 14, 2011 at 15:24 #360705Cant see the 3yr old’s beating Frankel but if he is ridden like a playstation game he could lose to the older brigade.
