Really wish they didn’t give riding orders.
With Frankel:
If the pace is slow take it up early.
If the pace is fair take it up after a couple of furlongs.
If it is good take it up halfway.
If strong take it up 2 out.Simples.
Value Is EverythingJune 14, 2011 at 15:25 #360707On that evidence the Timeform rating needs a serious downgrade.
Rather than criticising Queally I would suggest his tactics were the reason Frankel got home in front. It looks to me that Frankel is a serious galloper who doesn’t possess an instant change of pace and consequently unless he obtained a break would be vulnerable to a rival quickening past him.
Best of the three year olds for now but for how much longer?
He quickens easily enough mid race and a horse that has no change of pace can’t go fifteen lengths clear of a Guineas field.
I’m a fan of Tom Queally but I don’t believe he has the temperament to ride Frankel at the moment, put Dettori up and we’ll see how good frankel is.
June 14, 2011 at 15:32 #360710Not sure we should be knocking Frankel for winning ANOTHER Group 1 by just under a length.
He won the race mid-race, with a burst of speed that the others just couldn’t match; similar to what he did in the Guineas except he got tired a bit quicker today.
Nothing wrong with the manner of his victory today, he remains unbeaten, seven from seven, and is STILL a super star.
Bring on his next race please. A bit more restraint and a step up in trip perhaps?
June 14, 2011 at 15:36 #360712I’d probably go Juddmonte I think he’ll enjoy a step up in trip. However I’d be very tempted to keep him at a mile just to take on and beat Canford Cliffs because until he does that some people aren’t going to be convinced.
Maybe the Sussex Stakes then the Champion Stakes?

Sir Henry won’t be pleased with Queally, whatever he may say in public. Tom really must learn to judge pace better. Almost got a horse with a stone in hand beat there. Yet again, the horse settled in last place became Frankel’s closest pursuer. Zoffany improved, but flattered in his closeness. Had Zoffany been kept nearer to the pace, he probably would not have finished that close. Pacemaker goes off too fast and is ignored. If Queally wants to go in to second fine, but when the pace is very good, then why go for it that soon? They said afterwards the plan was to take it up just before the turn.
Come on Ginger – isn’t this the horse that, in the Guineas "went off at the pace that would win a group class sprint, and would probably be 5 or 6lbs better held up a little longer"?
It should be clear now, to all but the braindead, that Frankel was seriously advantaged by going 15l clear early in the Guineas, and despite being a very high class colt, isn’t the freak that Timeeform and others would have us believe.
Ridden with a little more circumspection, he could well remain unbeaten at a mile, though, on today’s performance, 10f would be a step too far.
All imo, of course – but then, what do I know?
June 14, 2011 at 15:44 #360716Sir Henrys face said it all.
In this horses last 2 races he’s ran about 4 races if that makes sense. If the horse is so superior why bottom him out? No way was he idealing the horse was knackered. It’s a long old season win your races with something to spare if your good enough. Bad ride imo.

Frankel displayed why he’s the best horse in the world and better than Sea The Stars.
Bring on the next lot of mugs that think this horse is beatable!

How has beating Zoffany a length displaying why he’s the best horse in the world?

I don’t know how anyone can assume Zoffany was flattered.
Just watched the race again (twice, in fact) and the horses who have finished second, fourth and fifth were all held up in the last trio and have run on through beaten horses: Dubawi Gold and Grand Prix Boss tried to cover Frankel’s move mid-race and have paid the penalty. Excelebration has definitely come out of the race with the most credit, apart from the winner.
I have to agree with those knocking Queally’s ride today. Sir Henry has just been interviewed on ATR and intimated that the ride wasn’t a great one- he’s not going to slate his stable jockey on television but I’m sure that he’ll have words in private. I wonder how much Cecil would give for a time machine? Piggott or Cauthen at their peak on Frankel….

Suppose you’ve forgot what he done in the 2000 Guineas? Sea The Stars beating Masterofthehorse 2l is proving he’s the best in the world? NO, its his dominance over his rivals over coming any obstical in his way.
Impossible for a horse to keep on smashing his rivals, Frankel showed he can perform to 60% of his potential and still beat the best milers in his age group comfortably.
Frankel was too composed today, he was asleep from start to finish and they still couldnt see which way he went!
MONSTER!
June 14, 2011 at 16:01 #360729I’m not sure some people understand a horse race I really don’t, don’t mean to be rude.
Scorching pace set today, stiffer track than Newmarket. Once again the pace was such that the second horse was the one that came from last place. This time Dubawi Gold tried to lay closer to Frankel and got beat way further than he did at Newmarket.
Willie Carson said he’d hold onto Frankel till the furlong marker, I wouldn’t go that far I’d hold him till two out, three max. Had Queally ridden him with more restraint Frankel wins five lengths.
Look where the pacemaker finished. Frankel went off like that at Newmarket and still won 6 lengths.
He’s a proper freak and when he’s ridden properly no one will be left in any doubt.
June 14, 2011 at 16:07 #360732I agree with the asleep bit in your post Mr W. He looked so tired in the last furlong I thought if there was a pillow on the floor he would of lied down and dozed off. A win is a win, no need to run the horse into the ground will do his chances of future success no good whatsoever.

June 14, 2011 at 16:50 #360739we won’t know how good frankel is until he meets canford cliffs. hopefully he’ll be ridden with more restraint and not unleashed until about 2 furlongs out. his timeform rating is extremely high at present and i find it hard to imagine he can reproduce such form in the future. a lot of the great horses in the past have run many good races but not many have produced more than one extraordinary effort in their careers.
June 14, 2011 at 17:18 #360745The horse is unimpressive so it seems everyone who can’t believe he is not quite the wonder horse they thought wants to see him ridden with more restraint. Visually his most impressive wins at least in terms of running through the line have been at Doncaster and Ascot last season. This season against better opposition similar tactics have brought success but he has effectively been a spent force inside the final furlong. Perhaps people want to go back to when he was held up and beat the relatively one-paced Nathanial half length on his debut. Unless Cecil can find an egg and spoon race I wouldn’t be in a rush to take short odds on him winning another race.
