Have had an early bet in this on COLETT MAD, the only entry from NTD . This is only a 5 y o but has impressed on his 3 chases so far and despite a 6 length win has been left on a rating of 132 . Clearly there are numerous dangers including some regular old stagers but CM has scope for improvement and if his jumping holds up in this better company then could exploit this mark . 20/1 ew with bet365 is fair with some bookies going as low as 10/1

Calett Mad is a young improving horse but not so sure he’s up to winning a race like this yet. I’m keen on two that have proved it at Doncaster, Southfield Royale and Ziga Boy. SR has been raced sparingly since 4th in the 4 miler at Cheltenham last year but is a class act and has a good race in him off 147. As long as the ground is good ZB would have a chance-he is a standing dish around here and was a decent 3rd last time.

Anyone know if Holywell is an intended runner?

Don’t know for a fact if he goes JJM, but I’d expect him too, as they used this race as part of his Cheltenham prep last year, and although joint top weight, if he stays in, keeps Another Hero on a nice weight.

I went for Ziga last week at the 16’s Joliff, and thought that was a fair price. As you say, knows his way round here, not far off last years winning mark, and should be better for his runs so far. Connections want to go for The National, and off his current mark, this will be his last chance to get on a decent enough mark, so I’m sure he’ll be coming here all guns blazing.

He was actually second choice though to Rock The Kasbah, who I also took at the 16’s. Big fan of this horse, and from a yard who landed it 2 years back, he must have a chance. Had Clan Des Obeaux & Our Kaempfer behind him at Chepstow, and thought he ran ok behind Politologue at Ascot. He’s on a nice mark, and think the step up in trip will be to his advantage as well. Was planning on going in again this week, but I’ll hold off until he’s confirmed, as he now holds an entry for Cheltenham at the weekend.

Not got as much as I planned to on those 2, so could happily afford another go, and added another few quid yesterday on Another Hero. Big fan of this horse, and he did me a turn at the 50’s at Ascot last time. He still looks well treated, and as long as the heavens don’t open, then the trip round here should be perfect for him. I’d expect stablemate Holywell to be confirmed to keep the weights down, and he was worth a go at the 14’s. I suppose the same sentiment could apply to Go Conquer from the same yard, who himself looks progressive, but I’m just of the opinion that Another Hero has plenty in hand of his mark, and I’ll side with him.

Paul Nicholls could have a say in this, and Caid Du Berlais is an interesting contender. He certainly makes the most appeal from the stables contenders at this point, as Vicente is also entered up at Cheltenham, and Just A Par seems to save his best for the spring.

Potters Cross is another horse I’d be interested in at a price. He did me a turn last time, and I think he’s got more improvement in him. I think he’s another who’ll get an entry for Aintree, and very much like Ziga, will need a big run here to get on a decent mark. 20’s is pretty decent.

Last years runner up Coologue, must have a chance of making the frame, though from 6lbs higher, he might just be up against in his effort to go one better this time around.

One at huge price who catches my eye is Katachenko. Big step up in trip for him, but he won nicely at Aintree in the spring, so the ability is there, and with the yard in much better form this term, then I can see him surprising a few people. No guarantee that he’ll improve for the step up, but should he take his chance, I might just cover him at a price, as he does look too big at 40’s.

Already got 3 though, and not to keen on having any more, so will wait and see the state of play at the final decs.

As for now, I’m happy with the 3 I’ve got, but haven’t went mad…………..yet.

    Rock The Kasbah 16’s win
    Ziga Boy 16’s ew
    Another Hero 14’s win

I always keep a check of comments in stable tours in either RP or ATR, and here is Mulholland’s assessment of Southfield Royale:

    SOUTHFIELD ROYALE
    6 b g Presenting – Chamoss Royale
147 rated chaser. Winner of novice chases at Wetherby (3m) in October and Grade 2 event at Doncaster (3m) in December of last year. Also fourth, beaten 12 ½ lengths, to Minella Rocco in the four mile chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
“He has been a bit slow to come to hand this year and we have had a few niggly problems but they are ironed out now. If we get a clear run he will make into a nice staying chaser. The form of the NH Hunt Chase in which he finished fourth has worked out well and there is no reason he shouldn’t make into a Hennessy horse next year. Obviously we have to worry about this season but there should be a couple of nice staying chases for him at the end of the season.”

Whether he will be fully tuned up for this weekend I’m not sure, but will still have a small bet on him.

TAPK’s finest hour in this race came 5 years ago when Calgary Bay won it for me at 16/1,I cant believe its that long.I only go to this meeting when I really fancy one as I prefer to go to the Cheltenham meeting on the same day.’Speaker Wetherill’ and ‘Beau’ were the other 2 times I’ve been as its usually lost to frost.I’ve done Many Clouds at 7/1 to beat ‘Thistlecrack’ on Saturday…Well I’m hoping the latter doesn’t run to be honest as he’ll be 7/2 if he doesn’t but because I am absolutely convinced Jonjo has targeted this race for Another Hero I’m going to Donny…14’s has been taken on the machine and 12/1 with Betfred today will do for now…As Cheltenham gets ever nearer my confidence grows and I reckon this fellow is as big a certainty for this as Holywell is for the ‘Ultima’…another 2lb off the latters back would be perfect for March.

I have narrowed it down to 3. I like third intention but am a little unsure about the trip and not a big fan of brendon powell jnr. Holywell, but just a little worried jonjo is using it to knock a few lbs off before cheltenham. And finally southfield theatre who seems the most obvious winner just not sure after the best part of a year off. Will have a bit on all of them i think

Backed Out Sam at 12’s a few days ago, I think this horse has a huge run in him if he can sort out his jumping. Could hose up off a mark like this…

I have backed both Nicky Richards horses in this at 12/1 and 25/1 !!

I feel they both have big improvement in them.

Ballyboker beat Kaki de la Pree pretty easy last time and could be a blot on the handicap.

Looking Well looks like a typical improver in this and looks he might have been waiting for this.

    Good Luck Guys :good: :good:
