But he’s OK to engage in conversation with his mate Tweedledum across the pond.

That may be so but what’s the excuse for rest of this shower of shite that we call a government then?

“That may be so but what’s the excuse for rest of this shower of shite that we call a government then?”

Imagine if it had been the opposition in power?

God help us if it had been them trying to run the country it would be even worse.

It’s hard to imagine any government failing the country so abjectly as the current one in dealing with the Corona-crisis, Matron. But, in the absence of a National Unity coalition, only a Tory government has had the chance so it’s a bit harsh to project that Labour would have done any worse. The electorate have got what they voted for.

Electorate have got what they voted for GoldenMiller34 and it is hard to imagine Labour getting it any better than the present Government in my opinion.

Any Government in power at present is bound to be castigated by various quarters.

(you’re) damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

“Taking it on the chin;” that glib statement sums up the incompetence of the Tory govt. They had plenty of warning, but chose to hope it would just go away. Unfortunately many people have paid the price.

It’s a pandemic that is unlike anything we’ve seen. We need to understand in these extraordinary times that mistakes will happen.

Doctors and nurses are trying their best, carers are trying their best, keyworkers everywhere are trying their best. Thankyou to every single one of them even though some will make mistakes we all know they are trying their best. Some have/will catch the virus and some of those will pay the ultimate price.

Thanks also to scientists and experts advising the government… and the government itself. Even though some scientists, experts and government will make mistakes they are trying their best. Some have caught the virus and could have died.

    Totally agree… great people !

This virus will alter our thinking also.

Things will never be the same again in the racing world.

    Let me make an example.

Never had much time for the worst of the worst, Class 6 or Class 7 handicaps on the flat, Claimers, Sellers. I would just sit it out and watch. I would be often asked who I fancied. I would just say “heroin”…that means don’t touch it !

I miss my racing… I bet in cash..no web or phone accounts.

When racing returns I will be having a few bob on the above mentioned low grade races.

Just to be able to have a bet

Are you all with me ?
Standby when racing returns as I get some nice word now and again.
I also get the odd bit of “heroin” so don’t touch it

    lol

So upset I cant (for now) get to see my favourite horse knock them dead…the one and only PINATUBO

    Just for Befair
Philip Schofield: Is the delay essentially trying to spread this out so it doesn’t all happen at once and overwhelm the NHS, and that you can actually delay it into perhaps the summer when it’s a little bit quieter and the ordinary flu might have died down a wee bit, is that what you’re doing?

Boris Johnson: Well it’s a very, very important question, and that’s where a lot of the debate has been and one of the theories is, that perhaps you could take it on the chin, take it all in one go and allow the disease, as it were, to move through the population, without taking as many draconian measures. I think we need to strike a balance, I think it is very important, we’ve got a fantastic NHS, we will give them all the support that they need, we will make sure that they have all preparations, all the kit that they need for us to get through it. But I think it would be better if we take all the measures that we can now to stop the peak of the disease being as difficult for the NHS as it might be, I think there are things that we may be able to do.

Nowt better than a sound bite

I was only doodling with racing for a lot of last year but Pinatubo made a laughing stock of my data models – it had no right to destroy that field at Ascot and luckily I wasn’t betting, as it looked a certain lay.

Yes Ginger this is a war unlike anything we have seen and yes we need to understand that mistakes will happen. That is what some of his generals were mindful to tell the visibly shrunken 5’8″ Hitler in the subterranean Fuhrerbunker as the tide turned against him.

The Chief scientific officer like many of Hitler’s generals signed off reports on the various states of war materials – but this particular report was signed off a year ago – and warned of our lack of preparedness particularly re protective equipment in the face of a pandemic war and advised to stock up.

Hancock was asked directly by the female presenter of Channel 4 news when the first large consignment for PPE was put in place February March or April ?. He replied. Well I do not have exact details but the Govt has always…

They wheeled out the fallen idol princess Priti to deflate the 20000 red balloons and soak up the flack in her very able combatative square footed style.

10% more car trips recorded – but Georgia ( Black Sea ) banned all private traffic and closed the airports. We still let 15000 a day in – and yes Shapps points out a lot are returners and argues the equilibrium spread argument. A friend in Macau has just completed his four weeks confinement after returning and when he wrote they had had no new cases for 11 days.

    S. Africa as you may have seen on the news has sent out an army of men to the vulnerable places in the poorer communities ( made me think of care homes) and checked everyone for symptoms. They of course had the experience of Ebola.

This govt may be red white and blue yellow black and purple. The facts speak for themselves. They prepared for a flu and should have locked down two weeks earlier given their testing shortfall and lack of supplies. The emergency economy measures were right at the time but could have been reduced and the economy less trashed if earlier lock down had stopped the virus in its tracks. One eminent scientist has said that the Govt has been negligent in their handling of this, I could not disagree. They did turn quickly and the NHS has not been overwhelmed so credit there, but otherwise a shambles.

flatcapgamble…Thinking of a walk in the park when I woke this morning, and my mind lazily turned to my old friend in Yellowstone. He’s sometimes dippy but cool and he rocks in his rock setting. Its yabadoo time YABADABADOO TIME… :yahoo:

It seems you’re confusing your opinions with “facts”, Mr Gamble.
Things like this unfortunately casts doubt on other stuff you write, however eloquently it’s written and however enjoyable your style may be to read. :negative:

Thanks Gamble, saved me having to reply to Ginger except to add:

The failure of the Tories re the Corona-crisis started long before it with austerity (a political choice not a necessity), serious underfunding of the NHS and a real terms reduction of 49.1% in central government funding to local authorities between 2010-2018 thus affecting the capability for contact tracing and testing, etc. (to name just 3 things).

The PM and the government ignored the findings of Exercise Cygnus in 2016 which showed that the UK could not cope with a flu-like pandemic. Johnson and co have been behind the curve in reaction to the crisis all along – lockdown should have come sooner, Cheltenham should not have taken place (to get back on topic!), there remains inadequate PPE and testing (why should our gallant keyworkers have had to risk and lose their lives?) – and, in fact, followed things like shutting down the PL (which occurred when Arteta tested positive) instead of leading.

That is why we are still lagging behind compared to many contemporaries (e.g. Germany), why we will enter a depression as opposed to a recession and why we should ask for a two year extension to the transition phase of Brexit before June 30 (as an effectively ‘no-deal’ exit will only deepen the country’s economic problems).

It’s been and still is an utter failure by the Tories, whose leader, by his own stupidity (shaking hands with Covid-19 patients), has been more absent than present throughout this crisis.

And there is still not a semblance of plans for a lockdown exit strategy. Why should the majority of the population who did not vote Conservative in December (how long ago that seems now) put up with such failure? As happened in both World Wars the failure of the existing government led to a replacement coalition. We deserve a Government of National Unity NOW!

Flu Flu Flu read my masked lips. Their prep. was more for a flu. We are examining facts and actions and reactions not tie colours. They had their eyes in the stars and were ill prepared for Sars 2 Covid 19.

flatcapgamble – let’s have some cheer for Gawd’s sake – what about a knees up for the perps

Streets with no people all alone
Roads full of houses, everyone’s home
A church with no singing, empty room
    Everyone’s gone to a tomb.

Eyes full of sorrow, always wet
Hands with no money we’re all in debt
Sun coming out in the middle of June
    Everyone’s gone to their room

You see a long time ago, when May had begun,
    Everyone seemed to have fun,

Parks full of distancing painted green
Mouths full of masks coloured cream
Arms that can only lift a spoon
You see everyone has gone to the Moon
Everyone has gone into poco loco ZOOM
