    Clive,

“…the little man hero of the trumps le pens farages and mentally ill far left of this world”

For a different viewpoint, you may consider watching this presentation (“How the U.S. Created Vladimir Putin”) given by Vladimir Pozner at Yale University in 2018.

“The Causes and Consequences of the Ukraine Crises”, a lecture given by Prof. John Mearsheimer at the University of Chicago in 2015 is most prophetic! If anything, it certainly puts the current events in a proper contextual framework, not what you hear and read in the mainstream media.

    GT,

“…But tbh I don’t think Russia or USA or China will ever use nuclear – although possibly by accident.”

Well said. It’s the accidental launch of nuclear missiles that people fear most.

“Instead we sent the terminally clueless Liz Truss who doesn’t know the difference between the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea.”

I bet the Russian hard men were scared out of their wits when she turned up to jolly well tell them what’s what. At least she is one step up from Karen Bradley, appointed Northern Ireland secretary and then said she did not know the difference between Unionists and Nationalists. Still, at least she ticks a diversity box.

“While laughing at just how gullible a large proportion of our electorate were to fall for their propaganda.”

The British public has shown itself very willing to be taken in by propaganda recently.

“No ‘the’. Generally considered outdated and even an implication that it’s not a sovereign state given that regions of countries are often preceeded by the definite article.”

Ah, thank you – that explains it.

Clive, there’s no “have to” and trying to see someone else’s point of view isn’t the same thing as justifying their actions.

You can’t persuade anyone to take a different path if you haven’t bothered to work out why they took the path they’re on in the first place.

Poor economy run by morons or not, they’ve got nuclear weapons and even if they hadn’t got them, diplomacy is the way forward until it becomes clearly futile.

And of course diplomacy isn’t appeasement – it also involves making it clear what the consequences of invasion would be.

My fear is Boris Johnson may sense the opportunity to use this to turn his fortunes around the same way Margaret Thatcher used the Falklands in the eighties.

If only Jeremy Corbyn had won the last election.

We don’t need Jeremy Corbyn we’ve got Liz Truss

Just like to say that my stable star is in the form of his life for ID’s Dictatorship race later this year. Is there more to come from this guy?

Plenty of Western leaders are now massively unpopular, especially as their Covid narrative begins to unravel and more and more people wake up to how they have given up two years of their life for nothing.

Johnson is holed below the waterline. Biden’s ratings are through the floor as the American people belatedly realise they have a dud for a President who has even managed to make his predecessor look vaguely competent. And little Justin Trudeau ran away when those ghastly working class truckers turned up.

What can they do to distract the public? Why, reach for the oldest trick in the book and say that the person they have styled as Public Enemy Number One is going to start a war. And almost everyone is falling for it.

    The Handicapper is definitely watching!

Showing his hand before the weights have even been published – schoolboy error from Putin!

    There are red lines

You do not annex sovereign states. That’s it

There is no “point of view”

And before the left start squealing. Iraq was not annexed

You can of course join a state with consent but that simply never seems to happen of course

    “the left”

We need to negotiate a pact on TRF – those who are centre right needs to stop referring to “the left” as they amalgamate every point of view that does not coincide with their own, and, yes, those on the centre left need to do likewise by way of reciprocation.

It’s about as likely to happen as preventing a Russian incursion into Ukraine, but I’m an eternal optimist!

So the biggest security threat in Europe since ww11 is a plan to distract western voters from their governments failings

It’s either a nice little plan hatched by putin and Biden because of course putin wants stability in the west doesn’t he or we should not be responding or reporting it in any way

Never mind parallels with the 30s. Never mind the security of Nordic and Eastern European states

Cork you need to get off weird websites

Ian. It’s the left who go on and on and on and on about Iraq.

Clive, would the military intelligence which so reliably informs us Russia is about to invade Ukraine be the same military intelligence which assured us that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction it could deploy within 45 minutes?

I could say it’s “the right” who call anyone whose views they disagree with “the left.”

    And vice versa.

But I try not to pigeonhole everyone.

I’m no fan of Putin, he absolutely has no justification for invading Ukraine, but to make this into a binary “good and evil, right and wrong” issue – as western politicians and much of western media invariably do in these circumstances – is intellectually bankrupt.

Regarding this ‘will they won’t they’ before the Olympics is over:

Susie Boniface – one of the less boring hacks on the roster of Sky News’ paper reviwers – made the valid point that the West’s warning of an invasion before the hoopla is done with might be an attempt to sucker China into believing they need to rein in a hard-pulling Putin eager to cross the line a week or so early, rather than genuine intelligence that invasion is actually imminent ‘any day now’

Xi and Vlad smirk at this Baldrickesque cunning plan ??

Seeing a point of view is to understand it, not necessarily agree with it.

There was a pre-emptive strike on Iraq, “in case” they had WMD.

What must not happen is pre-emptive action against Russia, “in case” they invade Ukraine.

IF they invade, that’s a different matter and the Iraq comparison becomes irrelevant.
