This is undoubtedly mostly Putin; so it would be nice to think Putin is out of the way. But if a Ukrainian or Western person kills Putin will there be some high up Russians wanting revenge or worse?

Wouldn’t want to alarm anyone but this language from the top guys at the Kremlin in Russian tv is exactly the wording that has been used by Putin to justify the use of nuclear weapons against the west. Good source too

I’m always surprised that this is said to be the most dangerous time since the Cuban missile crisis. I’ve read up on that saga a lot and this is way more frightening in my mind.

I agree with that Drone, I thought this would be a reasonably short
affair with the Russians simply moving in. It transpires that they
aren’t, as you alluded to, the all singing all dancing unit that they
    were expected to be.

It’s great to see the Ukranians doing a lot better than some, myself
included, expected, but as I mentioned before it now brings about
further difficulties in regard to what Putin is prepared to do to try
and get the upper hand. How far is he prepared to go. It’s very
    worrying.

The one thing few if any commentators are saying is that the longer this drags in the more those around him will surely lose any enthusiasm they have for this war. It’s bound to completely wear them down and there have been cracks at the top already

All I can say is, it’s difficult to see a way out of this.

At the start of the “military operation” Putin said he wanted Dombass and Luhansk as well as the rest of the World accepting Crimea is theirs… Along with Ukraine being “neutral”, not in NATO or EU.

Then he tried to go into the rest of Ukraine. Not that he’s got the whole of Dombass and Luhansk yet.

With the war not going well for Putin the announcement today seems to be going back to the original aim.

I did say much earlier in this thread a way out could be referendums in Dombass, Luhansk and Crimea overseen by the UN.

Most of those who were living in Dombass and Luhansk have been forced out. Is there a way of proving these (now) refugee’s legitimacy for voting in referendums without widespread fraudulent votes being cast?

I don’t believe any voting or referendum will take place Ginger – Zelensky will decide any peace terms on behalf of the people if it comes to it. Whilst there is speculation about the Russian general’s words about ‘first stage accomplished’ and if they mean what they say, or represent a smokescreen, what is more certain is that it will be raining in Kyiv today – in fact rain is forecast in six of the next nine days. It may not be tanking it down but there again…

Holding ‘ Kyiv ‘ was always the determinant in this war.

All wrong I’m afraid. He’s withdrawing troops before launching nuclear missiles. I wouldn’t book holidays this year and the only choice will instant incineration or slow death from radiation sickness. I’ll be taking the former

Could always escape to New Zealand but given that would mean living under Jacindas dictatorship, I will take wipe out

Low yield nuclear weapons are still nuclear weapons and would probably be similar to Hiroshima.
It is also apparently difficult to identify – in the air -a low yield nuclear missile from high yield. So I’d have thought the chances of an accidental nuclear war increases. Putin also knows this. Possible but unlikely I’d have thought.

If anything, personally I’d have thought chemical (chlorine) would be the thing if Putin changes weaponry. However, whether chemical or nuclear would change what NATO does and bringing NATO into the war would not be what Putin wants. Russia’s isolation probably be even worse for them. What would China have to say?

You’re all seem a cheerful bunch to me. Really hoping you’re dead wrong on this one.

I soaked and de-calloused my feet yesterday, well if truth be told, I employed a third party. They are difficult creatures and take exception to being tamed. This treatment lasts at least three weeks and I wouldn’t have gone to the bother if a warhead was likely to have saved me the trouble.

My advice would be to enjoy the nice weather and occasionally don’t watch the news.

I’m optimistic that the frustration and tension rising within the Kremlin will be stretched so tight that it’ll rupture in spectacular fashion … Putin will get bumped off. The war will end.

I’m not dead wrong. Half of us will fit in a shoebox after the first strike and the rest will turn green and have limbs drop off whilst growing an extra head
