Jesus
I thought that was a good one too.
Who ever said the hard left have no sense of humour ?
March 5, 2022 at 19:39 #1585891Ginger,
You’ve made several references to the Carpathians, as if you believe they would provide difficult territory to attack and therefore a useful location for a ‘guerilla resistance’ and as a safer route for NATO arms movements
The Carpathians in Ukraine skirt just the far southwest of the country and are little more than high and generally verdant hills with the highest point being just 6,000 ft above sea level. Plenty of roads and plenty of villages in the not-so-deep valleys
Therefore, if your intention was to infer a potential parallel with the torrid time the Russians suffered in the mountains of Afghanistan, I fear you are on a non-runner
In any case, the brown bears, wolves and lynxes that abound there might get a bit uppity if their peace and quiet is disturbed
Google Earth is a great resource to get an idea of the geography of an area. Plenty of nice photos donated by visitors too

attacked a non-NATO country and (being non-NATO themselves) can no longer trust Russia not to invade

Sweden will have no choice but to immediately join NATO.”That’s all absolutely true Ginge, but Ukraine made it very clear that they would pursue membership
of Nato, Sweden and Finland, (as yet) haven’t given Russia such an ultimatem. If they do, then you
then you are right. Not only could they not be trusted, I think they would have no option left other
than to invade Sweden and Finland. Like I said before this whole thing is teetering on the brink. As for Guerilla tactics, I still think it will be difficult to get supplies to them whilst there are
sufficient numbers of Russians to guard the ports/routes to them. I think the best bet would be for
an uprising in Russia with Putin being deposed. I don’t think even the Russians want the risk of
Neuclear war, who would ?…..oh yes, there is always heid the baw.March 6, 2022 at 01:46 #1585914There is zilch chance of
a nuclear war
Why ?
Putin is not in total control
particularly so as he
has miscalculated.
Finland and Sweden will not
join NATO now
Why ?
The BEARPossibly in two years…
It will depend on
Russia v Ukraine
and if Ukraine
puts up a strong fight
it could well happenMarch 6, 2022 at 01:51 #1585915Anyone thinking the Russians are going to march right across half of Europe …..Putin barely has enough troops to manage Ukraine if he wants to take the whole country , if he does manage the take Ukraine he,ll be fighting for years to keep control …
March 6, 2022 at 02:05 #1585918I would agree with that…
Ukraine’s eastern frontline is far too extensive too defend. Russia will certainly take land.
The peace talks have been set up
to give Russia a bargaining chip and a way of getting out
if the going gets too tough.
Remember the 40 km snake that
aint exactly a snake in the grass.March 6, 2022 at 02:09 #1585919and if Finland and Sweden were to join Nato HDLG, and I agree with Gamble, I don’t think
they will, what do you think Russia would do if they did ? As for not having the troops,
they have the largest Army on the face of the planet (USA aside) but the largest neucleur
arsenal.I still think the best way of alleviating this risk is to have him deposed.
March 6, 2022 at 02:10 #1585920Putin is talking to Bennet
only because he is on the back foot.
See his body language ( nervous)
Cf. to Bennet’s (calm)March 6, 2022 at 02:20 #1585921Putin has started smiling a lot in a feigned relaxed manner.
When he smiles he is worried !
Orwell’s Doublethink !
Putin is in control as it stands
His control will weaken if his army continues to underperform
or if he escalates the war with tactical weapons to make up for this.
I don’t think he is stupid enough to do that
So unfortunately we are in for
the long haul.March 6, 2022 at 02:23 #1585922I don’t think Putin is rational at the moment Gamble, which makes him even more dangerous.
Whatever is thrown his way, I don’t think he will want to be seen as a dog with it’s
tail between his legs. Hopefully his own party and generals will come to that conclusion
before he does something EVEN more stupid than invading Ukraine.March 6, 2022 at 02:32 #1585923As for his rationality
BigG he is still embittered KGB.
He wants people to think he
is on another planet.
You may be right but he
has very high ideals for Russia and being the world’s
richest man (170 billion before the invasion) means little to him. Riches can be quite boring. He wants seismic change. His moon steroid face is a concern but I think a calculating mind is at the back.
I bought some excellent Russian vodka tonight. Half the bottle remains as I turn in. I may see thing differently in the morrow.March 6, 2022 at 02:37 #1585924I could do with the other half Gamble
March 6, 2022 at 02:42 #1585925I’ve just looked at it – its slightly more than half
Thank God.I am totally blaming
Putin’s war for my drinking !March 6, 2022 at 02:48 #1585926What was that quote ? “It was a woman that drove me to drink, and I
didn’t even have the the decency to thank her for it”March 6, 2022 at 02:52 #1585927I’m putting the lights out now Gamble, I’m trusting you to have that bottle marked
and in the same state in the morning. Nighty nightMarch 6, 2022 at 02:52 #1585928I thought about helping out in Ukraine but I am past the sell by date of a fighting man apparently and according to Matial law dictates. You can only shoot straight if your 60 or less.
I could help out indeed, but I do love my lie ins, and serving high alcohol drinks to the Ukrainian front line might make em think I am a double agent like Anthony Blunt. -
