I think Johnson should resign same as you Moe.
…And I’d certainly rather not have the likes of Dorries in there. But she is in one of the less important jobs. However, whatever we may think of Partygate etc. politicians in Johnson’s cabinet are not Putin loving, NATO hating, neo-communists at this time of Ukraine / Putin crisis.

Just got to be bloody glad Corbyn did not win the last election.

At least Corbyn wouldn’t now be swanning around pretending to be co ordinating the wests response to the crisis. And Abbott wouldn’t be having photo shoots sitting in tanks. The extreme right and the extreme left are as bad as each other imo. That’s why I’m a wet liberal. And before anyone says Johnson isn’textreme right, he might not be but his strings are being pulled by the extreme right of the party.

How come Johnson’s “strings are being pulled by the right of his party”, and yet the right wing are the ones least happy with the Johnson government?

Yep, Corbyn, McDonnell and Abbott would not be seen sitting in tanks, they’d be sitting waving the white flag instead… And doing all they could to sabotage Britain’s allies in NATO. .

“I think the answer Mr speaker. and all Honourable members on both sides of this house is that the Prime Minister is a very loose cannon indeed and devoid of any strings that might pull him in some defined direction. Just like Leave or remain – he couldn’t decide. He’s a free spirit who has attended too many parties.

In the name of God you’re a shape-shifting wriggler Sir !” :negative:

I hadn’t heard that Bragg before Purwell. Billy was referring to the two biggest clicks there are – the elite and those strongly or loosely attached or aspiring and the other click; rest made up of the workers, the work-shy, and those not capable of shifting their bones.

As Ricky Lake might have said… It’s the big reveal

Johnson has had to do what right wing back benchers like Peter Bone and Redwood when it comes to covid. He doesn’t actually have much in the way of political ideals just follows the people in his party that will keep him in power. The people running the country are the ERG and the CRG, neither of which do what their name suggests. All very 1984’ish. I just hope he listens to Elwood and Tugendhat what it comes to Russia. I still think that pulling out if Afghanistan gave the wrong signal to Putin.

Actually the song goes back to the 30’s.

“Written by Florence Reece in 1931- was released on ‘Pete Seeger’s Greatest Hits’ album in 1967. Reece was the wife of Sam Reece, a union organizer for the United Mine Workers in Harlan County, Kentucky. In 1931, the miners of that region were locked in a bitter and violent struggle with the mine owners called the Harlan County War.”

Bought that record when it was first released, Purwell.
I was a massive fan of Billy Bragg in his early days on John Peel. :good:

‘I’m going to have to go away and try to work out if I’ve just been insulted or not.’

Figured I should clear this up as any offence I cause would only ever be deliberate and in fairness, unlike me and most others here you’re seemingly not anonymous. It was very much a dig at the current political choice we have and nobody or nothing else. The point being that even if one was as old as an oak tree it would still be the worst choice in one’s lifetime. In my opinion etc.

I was hoping that would be it!

    Thank you!

I have decided that we should ask Ukraine to invade the UK – that’ll confuse everyone.

That’s the spirit, Slovakia and Slovenia can have a go at each other while we’re at it too.

Russia’s covert support of Brexit has already diminished the UK; a few quid here and there to the Tory party has gone a long way

    Purwell, thank you for that.

In the mid eighties I was seen busting my *rse on building sites aka Auf Wiedersehen Pet in the Third Reich’s transformed eight o clock start Germany. I was inspired at that time by Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina to connect physical work to a form of spiritual expression where one could lose oneself completely entering the flow state; the zenith of mindfulness, the glory land where bodily sweat oozed the fruit or essence of the higher state.
I was picked up at 5.45 am in Frankfurt in a car with three other builders and the driver had escaped a jail term in UK by fleeing the country for running down and killing a pedestrian, and we travelled fast and the whole way Pete Seeger blasted out and for the two hour drive to Mainz and like Leonard Cohen, I never tired of him. We worked ten hours and then the two hour journey back with a bit less Seeger. Got back at 8pm – sat down in a chair exhausted ring pulled a large can of krone gulping it down in three and instantly felt the pleasant feeling of alcohol cursing through the red stuff – putting the fire out.
