Both took terrible, separate, falls in the Lingfield opener with differing outcomes. (plus we also lost a horse Buena Sarah in yet another incident in the same race)
Coleman had a relatively soft landing from his fall but took a nasty kicking when on the ground. He was taken away on a spinal board but luckily was found to have "only" bruising after going to hospital – he has now been released.
Green’s fall was more serious – it was a horrible looking fall where he was pole-axed into the ground at the first and was absolutely motionless on the ground. Initial reports were, surprisingly, he had a suspected fractured pelvis. Later tests showed no fractures but he does have displaced vertebra in his neck. It is reported he has does not have full use of his right arm. He has been transferred to a London hospital.
I’m sure everyone will wish him a speedy recovery and hope there is no long term damage.
Two incidents, differing outcomes, both emphatically underline the risks these riders take every time they go out to race.
March 21, 2011 at 22:31 #346646Does anyone know how Christian Williams is progressing after the horrendous accident he had at the start of the season?
March 21, 2011 at 22:59 #346648I thought Rodi Green had snapped his neck, horrid fall.
March 21, 2011 at 23:00 #346649Not great news Paul. Hopefully both make a speedy recovery. If anyone has any updates they’d be much appreciated.
I was wondering same about Williams. I think I saw he had a column somewhere last week so hopefully he is coming along.
These guys do literally risk life and limb every time they step out onto the track. Sobering stuff.
March 22, 2011 at 23:22 #346832Aidan Coleman is alright but he’s taking a few days off (according to his Twitter)
Rodi Green is still in hospital on some pretty heavyweight painkillers. He’s snapped a bone in his neck & currently can’t move his right arm. There’s a report on racingpost.com
