After what was a difficult year for racing and after being accused of serial moaning (see Bank Holiday thread), I thought I would start off something a little more optimistic about hopes for 2022.

I hope to see Jonbon and Galopin Des Champs hack up at Cheltenham and show they are potential stars in waiting.

And from a non racing point of view, I hope Covid and its attendant hysteria continue to recede, as I believe it will.

As TRF Poster Of The Year-Elect CAS’s self-appointed spin doctor I would like to point out that the great man is NOT a “serial moaner” – he is a “serial constructive critic.”

    Thank you.

Reasons to be cheerful? In true Ian Dury style…

    1. The star performance at Cheltenham to come from an English-trained horse, with Shishkin leaving Energumene standing from two out in the Champion Chase.

    2. A vintage crop of three year olds, with Luxembourg leading the way.

    3. No more bad eggs portraying racing in a negative light; hopefully, the lessons of 2021 will have been learnt.

I don’t care where Festival winners are trained so long as I’ve backed them!

On a personal note I will, all being well, pop my Festival cherry in March so I’m looking forward to that. It will also be my first bet in probably two years although I couldn’t tell you exactly when I last punted. Must be about that.

Constitution Hill to get things off to a flyer in the Tolworth Novice’s Hurdle at Sandown on Saturday would be an encouraging start for me.

Well, someone on Facebook mentioned that it was David Bridgewaters birthday today to which I replied that he would probably have a winner. So I backed his only remaining runner, promptly fell asleep (old age, afternoon nap….) only to wake up to find that, even though it was the complete outsider, it had won. So I’m a happy bunny today. It doesn’t take much….

Why has it already been decided that Constitution Hill is the only possible “superstar” in the Tolworth?

What if something else hammers it?

Nice one Moe, sometimes all the form studying in the world is no substitute for a bit of coincidence.

I am rather cheerful about having spent a very enjoyable
Xmas. I am keeping all the lights on until the weekend by the way.
The reason I enjoyed this Xmas so much was that I did very very very little and took time out doing the little things I enjoy, like sitting near the Xmas tree when the lights are on, seeing the decorations in the street, going for a coffee and taking time to dwell. I now take my plastic beaker with me because I want to join the Thornburg’s of this world and do a little bit, my bit, to save it. Well worth it in my book – We’ve got at least three more good years.
I stupidly missed the King George, it was a timing error, but did read the reports from people on here and I actually got the winner. I had a strange feeling about it the name and the person that tipped it. I get a lot of strange feelings !
I have a full diary next week and lack confidence I will get properly back in the groove so trying to pan my days out – stretch em ! My mojo at the moment is doing very little. Please do not copy me – I need just a few of the proletariat to bring in the bacon. A very happy new year to you all, including the shirkers and the many sit on yer hands lurkers. B-)

I always keep the lights etc up until 12th Night, gamble, though there seems some debate about when exactly that is.

Most say last night, but some say tonight!

Can’t resist with this one by Ian Dury and the Blockhead

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.
    Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.

Twelfth Night was last night. Today is the Feast of the Epiphany.

I took most of my decorations down just after New Year. I am taking my tree down later this afternoon, once the racing is over.

The Church season of Christmastide lasts until Candlemas on 2nd February, 40 days after Christmas Eve when the season commences. Plenty of churches leave their nativity cribs up until then, as do I.

Thank you Saint Corky. ( Just caught you )

I would like to point out – I did carve the turkey so did contribute somewhat.

I rather enjoyed listening to that.

I think the official end is yesterday but with over a million self isolating ( not me – I’m as free as a bird) I think the least thing the Prime Minister could do is extend Xmas to the end of this month and imprison people that take down their lights EARLY. Given the chance I would run this country with an iron fist but covered in a lambswool glove. Leather boots everywhere to round up the shirkers, and hopefully a good standard of healthcare and living for all those after the round up and possible cull. Ship all the shirkers that want re-education down to the Isle of Whight and man the shoreline.

Anyway getting back to Ian Drury who was a bit of a genius, I never caught him live, but my sister did.
She was invited to see him at Hammersmith in a dimly lit Odeon Theatre and watched him doing Drugs Sex and Rock and Roll full on for a full half an hour. I don’t think she ever recovered !

Well thank you Corky for putting all that straight.I am interested in all the dates.
I wasn’t sure if you got the King George winner or Tatters (TTC ) and obviously you won the BIG ONE and he got the King. He may have had another selection so in theory that puts the after timer me, rather King of the Castle. Davies got a couple of prizes so most have done well.

I would like to impart and pass on some of my culinary expertise. If you are cooking a roast and can be 🦃 beef chicken or god forbid lamb the trick I use is this. The roast potatoes are King. Time everything to be ready on the plates just before you take the roast potatoes out. Also have gravy bubbling on the stove that will go on last of all.
Serve everything with a paper napkin or the continental word serviette. Let’s face it if other things get a bit cold you can heat for a minute in the microwave ( splash some water on meat with your clean hand ). You cannot microwave roast potatoes they go soft if you do. A little tip from me of the non horse variety.

p.s. a spot of rain on my window pane. I quite like the rain and I will step out into it and have a bit of fun outside. 🤸🦠

Not many reasons to be cheerful are there? It’s almost as if people prefer a good moan. There’s got to be something else to look forward to. I would chime in with my opinion on when Christmas decorations should come down but it’s somewhat against the spirit of this thread.

When they never go up you don’t have that dilemma.
