Reasonable card for the evening meeting and two decent handicaps for this thread. It must be said, a handful of the ‘jumping mob’ turned up at Musselburgh flat meetings over the summer but did look a little lost!

At Yarmouth First Folio continues to look well treated though on a run of 15 without a win, tried in an eyeshield this time.

As you would expect of a field where most have been running against each other all season the field is generally closely matched. However, Jonny Concrete has a potential advantage in the Bronze Cup.

4.55 Wonderful Eagle 138; Clearance 136; Onemorefortheroad 134; War Lord 128September 20, 2024 at 13:46 #1708095Ayr gold Cup looks very close with most of the runners within 7lbs of the top, conditions and draw peerahps a stronger factor than ratings. The handicapper has got a hold on most and they have now been moved up to reflect good form in similar events. This does create opportunities for others and one who has been running decent races through the season without winning is Strike Red who comes out a couple of pounds in front of the others and looks decent each-way material where bookmakers offer 6 places.
In the Silver Cup Rhythm N Hooves ran well last time after a string of so-so runs and looks placed to take advantage of his current mark.

4.55 Bells Of Peterboro 135; Investmaent Manager 134; Fantastikas 134October 1, 2024 at 13:37 #1708813A nice winner at Hamilton yesterday with Zarabanda dotting up at 7/2, followed home by joint top rated Austrian Thoery and the 3rd rated Beraz. A good one to watch from the stands as she had the race won from 2 out.
Good Earth finished second at 5/1 in our other rated contest at Hamilton. Only a handful of bookmakers had 5/1 on their boards until just before the off. Backing their opinion in the ring isn’t prevalent these days but the Billy Morton firm essentially backed the favourite Never Dark having that short and going long on most of the rest. It paid too as there was a queue at the Morton stand all through the preliminaries and Never Dark put in a solid perforamcne to win the race. THe Racing Post did a Q & A with Billy Morton on the day (behind a pay wall) unfortunately and that would make interesting reading, but it seems the firm were willing to ‘have a go’ which is heartening in a weak on-course situation. It was a Glasgow Public Holiday yesterday with a decent crowd in attendance despite the wet weather and that must have helped.
It was rainy at Hamilton yesterday but really the first serious rain we have had up here for a couple of weeks. Meanwhile Newton Abbot fell to the wet weather down south and Nottingham has to survive a morning inspection tomorrow.

3.30 Harjo 136; Gris Majeur 129; Long Draw 121; Foveros 120October 1, 2024 at 14:53 #1708815September has historically been one of the better months for the ratings on this thread in over 4 years of it’s history. However, nitroduction of a slightly different and simpler ‘recent form’ filter seems to have brought about a signiifcant improvement in returns.
All top rated – 16 winenrs from 92 races returning 106.35pts to 1 pt win stake, fair profit nad encouraging.
However, ignoring all those at SP over 10/1 see a significant improvement:
14 winners from 57 (24.6%) with returns of 93.35pts (163.7%)Taking the lowest priced of the top 3 gives worse returns 18 wins from 92 with a small loss 88.80. Suggest teh top rated is now more signifcant, particularly if the market prioce backs it up.
Overall from top 3 – 35 wins from 92 races (38%) which is acceptalbe in what is a month full of competitive contests.
Promising but will not take anything for granted and will keep monitoring. I hope one or two readers bagged a decent winner or two last month.
