The horse to take from today Steve is

    Toormore

,he will make an imposing 4yo,he pulled like a train today and spent far more energy that ‘Night of thunder’ even though the so called Pundits on C4 were harping on about how unlucky Hughsie was.
I am very loyal to my horses and they rewarded me today,I actually swapped ‘Gregorian’ for ‘Tropics’ on July cup form when Gosden did his usual! I’m kicking myself though as when I have gone to TRF meet-ups at Newbury I have a horse to take with me,this year it was ‘Bronze Angel’ as Nathan will vouch for, trouble was ‘Chil the Kite’ beat him!!  Thats racing.

TAPK is emotional tonight…….I’m on my 2nd bottle of RD and my thoughts are with the late great Henry Cecil a Trainer I adored.I never ever thought of Sir Henry running one for the book, his 2yo’s were ready to win 1st time out and all his horses always seemed to be trying.Very few Trainers can I associate those comments with.Too many horses to list but I remember

    Noble Mission

was undoubtedly my most emotional victory ever.Nothing to do with taking Skybets 16/1 and every price down,or having the foresight to see this was his race..(Frankel).It was fate!!RIP King Henry, the legendary king of Ante-Post betting toasts you and the legacy you left and that includes Lady Cecils skill in preparing ‘Noble Nission’ for today,he looked a picture.

Well deserved Gord :-) good day at the races for ya!

With it looking like MTOY sadly missing the rest of the season (what does Hendo do to them or just unlucky?). Who do you fancy? un de Sceaux must have an excellent chance as long as respecting fences better than hurdles!!

More of That will likely get good competition from Briars Hill who I like very much :-)

I remember Peter Davies all to well Gord. He carved my betting shop up on two occasions when I was the manager.

We took a shed load of cash on him when he beat the Willie Haggas trained Bog Trotter, who was narrow fav of the two on the day. Not a soul seemed to have a penny on the Haggas runner and we were taken to the cleaners.

The boys were out in force for Peter Davies again in the Racing Post Trophy and we had an unbelievably lop-sided book considering that Peter Davies and the Michael Stoute trained horse Mujaazif were 2/1 joint favourites. The Stoute horse would have been the result of the season for us but he was tailed off in last with Peter Davies holding on by a short head to cause a queue for getting paid out that was akin to Grand National day.

It was "Frying Tonight" that day and we were carved up and deep fried in batter.

It didn’t happen for Peter Davies at 3 and that was a bit like another Charles St George horse trained by Sir Henry, Sanquirico, who I had high hopes for after his first few runs at two. The last I remember of him was finishing down the field in the Dante behind Geoff Wragg’s Red Glow, a horse who was so coltish in the paddock that he used to walk around sporting an extra "leg" at 180 degrees to his tail!

I think the Barry Hills horse who finished behind Red Glow in the Dante went on to be runner up to Khayasi that year on a Derby Day where I had scraped together all my spare change to put something ridiculous like £4.62 on the Cumani horse at 14/1. Young, single and broke I had a few jars of the electric soup that night after Khayasi swept home.

Memories eh? Somehow the racing seemed more fun back in the 1980’s and I recall a pal at work coming into the office in D1215 at Dounreay just after Slip Anchor had won the Lingfield Derby Trial and shouting "Cecil’s horse p155ed it, absolutely p155ed it"

Sir Henry provided some wonderful moments.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Toormore has finally filled out nicely.
Yeah bloody ‘Bronze Angel’ and ‘Chil the Kite’ I’m backing them both next time they come up against each other. Another one of your boys Gordon Lord Byron ran a cracker and had to muscle his way through a couple. I was in the press box and said to one of the timeform lads that you need a horse that gets further then the distance on todays going but he just looked down his nose at me and shook his head…….

Nath you know better than to fall for the patter from the Timeform boys, you only need to listen to Mcgrath and Cunningham to realise they are so brainwashed by the numbers game their hair has turned Ginger.Timeform as judges are no better than us on here and what they lack big time is the feel for a horse. The boys from Halifax can allocate a number but they haven’t got a clue about how some horses can, given a certain set of circumstances blow their mark out the water.Their Mission is about Money-Making,they fleece those who cant think for themselves, they’re not Noble in their approach they’re arrogant and put themselves above the rest of us.I of course have always been on a

    Noble Mission

    to success Nath.
You would make a good Press Boy Nath, possibly assessing the form on page 3.

I haven’t got a clue what Timeform go on about Gord but recognised the lad from the tv when ATR do their phone ups. Rory Jiwari from Stan James nearly knocked my coffee out my hand but I couldn’t believe how different Tanya Stevenson looked in the flesh, the telly doesn’t do her justice..

Oh that was a happy day Gord, still love old Junior :D

Charlie Hall might be a bit tight timewise, but I’d try my best to make any "meet ups" in the future. Made it down the year Marlborough won, would love to go again.

I’ve text a few local Jocks to try and get free tickets but it’s tricky up here as everyone loves the Charlie Hall :-) – should get some hopefully!!

Gord: any fancy for the RSA? Tricky to know what Mr Mullins will run but I’ve gone for Don Poli as I liked his attitude running up the hill last season

Yes Gary,if you remember last year I was all over

    Whisper

for the Coral cup even when he was being beaten by

    Saphir du rheu

I was convinced about Hendersons horse being primed for Cheltenham.Hindsight shows I was right but I was wrong about the Paul Nicholls horse. The improvement ‘Saphir’ showed last year was phenomenal over hurdles and it always looked like even then this fellow wanted fences, touch wood he’ll go the RSA route. What amazes me is Nickys horse is a ridiculous 6/1 for the race whilst Pauls horse is 20/1.I rate

    Whisper

a dark horse for the world hurdle but I have exactly the same feeling about him as I did ‘Oscar Whiskey’ winning the Jewson last year and thats neither look like natural Chasers.

    Saphir du rheu

on the other hand ticks every box for me.

That’s very interesting as Paul Nicholls rates this lad extremely highly, so high they are intending to run him in a top notch hurdle race early doors prior to fencing, but he has been schooling very well :-)

Gord come on then you had enough time who your classic bets for 2015 and any darkhorses to follow too.

And looks like LEADING LIGHT be retired as you know one of my fave horses. Not many horses win ST Leger then gold cup 9months later i know early on you was not a fan.But must of change mind on him now.
He was a tough horse and one i miss. :(

    I do like this

    Ol’Man River

for the Derby Darren, his breeding interests me mostly as he’s a son of

    Finsceal Beo

although being a half brother to

    Too the Stars

isn’t filling me with hope.I cant see this fellow not taking the Epsom route but the same could be said for his stable companion

    John F Kennedy

who clock watchers would say was the better Derby Proposition.Of course being

    Tapestrys

    full Brother certainly bolsters confidence
too, trouble is if he’s campaigned as badly as she was there’s no hope for him. I’ll get back to you on my Guineas horses.

Gord what you think of debut of SIR ISAAC NEWTON when you think of JFK,GLENEAGLES,HIGHLAND REEL all got beat on debut in a way that is what happend along with winner pulled long way away from the 3rd.And if there was 1m maiden next week he be odds on and win it.I not chucked ticket in bin i still got hope he can do it.And Weld likes his horse too so both could be top class.

Also COLOUR SQUADRON wins paddy power chase 16/1 was 2nd last year can go one better now you call him a jabba you do.

And gord what your thoughts on LEADING LIGHT i miss him now he retired but a top horse he is not many win st leger and gold cup in 9months like he did.
