I think they might do a Frankel with him, win absolutely everything at 2 miles for a couple of years and then step him up somewhere perhaps when he is 9 years old.
March 13, 2013 at 15:46 #432484Connections might be loathed to step Sprinter Sacre up in trip, since he is a big horse thus more susceptible to wind problems. These have already come to light once when he was a hurdler.
Pushing him to his stamina limit could cause some further issues.
March 13, 2013 at 16:03 #432492I think he’d win the King George on decent ground. Never a Gold Cup horse.
Simonsig a Ryanair horse probably
March 13, 2013 at 16:29 #432494Wow, just wow!
would be interesting to see him go further as looked like he could go another round after that but unlikely. Agree with previous post a would be nice to see him in a KG perhaps in a couple of years.

My thoughts exactly. I cannot see why this horse could not get 3 miles on good ground. Not a Gold Cup horse, but Like Kauto and other truly class animals, they are versatile because they are so far ahead of the rest.
Could he not win the King George and Champion Chase each season for the next 3 years?
Will Simonsig even take him on?!

March 13, 2013 at 22:12 #432574today was just breathtaking. his power around the home turn… I gasped when Barry pressed the button on him.
one of the best chasers you’ll ever be lucky enough to see, if not the best. it’s ridiculous with the benefit of hindsight that pont alexandre was the most hyped horse of the festival… then you compare his laboured performance to sprinter half an hour later.
or maybe i’m just embittered after being sucked in by the hype on that horse
anyway credit to the connections of sizing europe for running him in this race- rather than the easy option of the ryanair- otherwise sprinter would have won by half the track and it would have been a farce of a race.
we had a proper horse to register him against, and boy did he register.

he won’t run in the king george. henderson was pretty admanant after the race that he’s an out and out speedball, and was even reluctant to the idea of stepping him up to two miles four at aintree.
if it’s not broke why fix it? heaven forbid we have the same arguments about distance that we had about frankel

Yup we probably will, with regards to the argument.
But I agree with both sides of that argument if that`s possible.
March 13, 2013 at 23:24 #432598Even with a very nasty stumble from Sizing Europe, he still pissed up for 2nd, a very brave performance which makes Sprinter Sacre’s win even more dominant.
192p, I’d really love to see him enter the 200’s, I think he deserves it, that Arkle win last year the form is outstanding.
Cue Card’s class sees him winning at 2m5f at Grade 1 level, no way he has the natural stamina for it yet can still win, Al Ferof wins the Paddy Power off top weight and has more than half the field in submission. Menorah stuffed by Sprinter Sacre goes off a nice price in the Peterborough Chase and is allowed to win just cause he was beaten that far.
Sprinter Sacre the best chaser in my lifetime at least.
March 13, 2013 at 23:43 #432601cue card is by king’s theatre red riot, his progeny have a very good record when stepping up to 3 miles plus.
also all of his wins over fences have come in excess of 2 miles.
March 13, 2013 at 23:51 #432603Pedigree may say that yes, but he was out on his feet in the King George, finished very tired and distressed, natural 2miler imo.
Most stunning win was his 2m1f.

There’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll stay three miles. He’s bred for it and watching him today, he could have done another half mile at least at that pace. Another summer on his back…
The biggest factor here is Henderson. He has a couple of other horses for the King George, he has Simonsig that will probably be upped in trip and then there’s the concern over Sprinter Sacre himself. Watching him today before the off and he looked terrified.
I’m not sure what the modern day record is for horses remaining unbeaten over fences but the most Kauto managed was 6.He should send the monster to Aintree. He’s only had three runs this year and the crowd love him.
