Intersting to see if bookies are xenophobic about J J The Jet plane at Royal Ascot. Were they about Montjeu when he won the King George or Dubai Millennium when he won at Royal Ascot?
Come on guys to suggest such a thing is silly.
The favourite is the price he is because the Nad Al Sheba form often doesn’t stand up and Godolphin aren’t exactly a huge success in recent years.
Good price? Yes he is IF he performs at Ascot the way he has in Dubai he’ll probably win but its enough of an IF not to put him in too short from a bookmakers point of view.

He beat Presvis, 3..25l, who went on to win a top class race in Hong Kong and was an unlucky 2nd in another world-class race in Singapore.
He beat Alexandros 5.25l, who went on to be beaten a cig paper in the Lockinge.
He beat 4 time Australian gp1 winner Niconero by 8.25l
He beat Bankable 8.25l, who went on to be 3rd, beaten only 3l in the same world-class race that Presvis was unlucky in.
Even further back were other world-class horses, Archipenko, Paco Boy and Jay Peg. No fluke either, as in demolishing this very high class field, he recorded a s/f unmatchable except by the very best horses. And you tell me I’m being silly?
June 11, 2009 at 23:05 #233434Reet you are being silly because there is no comparison between the fear
of Barry Dennis and the fear of spiders! Xenophobia is a word we dont need to use on this forum! I like the chance of the horse that beat the "legendary" Gift Horse in a 6f handicap at Doncaster!June 11, 2009 at 23:08 #233436The favourite is the price he is because the Nad Al Sheba form often doesn’t stand up

No I’m not suggesting you are silly by fancying the3 horse on his form. What I’m calling silly is the xenophobia stuff.
I am well aware of the horses form and no it wouldn’t surprise me if he trotted up but personally I won’t back him you’d be hard pushed to get me to back any Godolphin horse (because I don’t rate them as an organisation and the price of their horses are often shorter than they should be) but if I did back one it’d be one that has proven European form.

Which, of course, is not xenophobic?

Would you back a horse with top class American form not knowing if he can repeat that level of form under European race conditions?
Its nothing to do with xenophobia (I’m amazed you seriously consider it) its to do with maximising your chances of winning and minimising your chances of losing. If you want to make money by backing racehorses I find it wise not to take too many chances.
June 13, 2009 at 00:51 #233601I would if the price was right and I had spare dosh. I can’t quite get rid of my old scatter-shot approach!
June 13, 2009 at 00:55 #233603Would personally far rather back Mac Love each-way at 66s than Gladiatorus at 9/4. Will love the ground and has a 2nd and 4th in a Lockinge & Queen Anne to his name, albeit 4 years ago.
June 13, 2009 at 01:04 #233604Is Virtual likely to run here or in the POW?
June 13, 2009 at 01:06 #233606Very up in the air I’d say. Gosden said Virtual hates the straight mile at Ascot, but he won the Lockinge over the mile at Newbury, a straight course…
Given the ground, I’d say the Prince of Wales’ looks the bet.
June 13, 2009 at 03:38 #233629I was intending to Zharkava. He ran very well in a top Group I a few years ago, and looks as if he’s retained his ability. I’ll bet him to place though.
June 13, 2009 at 20:15 #233711LOCKINGE STAKES winner Virtual looks likely to tackle 1m2f for the first time in the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.
The son of Pivotal, who defeated Alexandros by a nose over a mile to land his biggest success to date that day, also holds an entry in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes the previous day.
Virtual, who has yet to race beyond 1m1f, completed his preparation for his clash with Tartan Bearer and company when covering a mile on the Al Bahathri Polytrack in Newmarket on Saturday morning.
Chris Richardson, racing manager to owners Cheveley Park Stud, said: "We are leaning towards running Virtual in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at present, but much depends on the weather. Mrs & Mrs Thompson [stud owners] have yet to make a final decision."
June 13, 2009 at 20:21 #233714Really hope they change their minds and do go for the Queen Anne.
Virtual is a delight to watch on a straight mile (albeit on less firmer ground).
June 13, 2009 at 20:47 #233723If I was backing Gladiatorius I would be confused and worried that Dettori is not on board. I can’t believe that Dettori has just stepped aside and let a conditional ride the world’s highest rated horse.

And how many Camels has Frankie ridden?

I’m not one bit concerned. His young jockey put the horse where he is today and was a cool as a cucumber when he won the Dubai Duty Free.
Anyway Frankie very chattie during a race abd if he rode Gladiatorus he would have no one to speak to

The reason they are running him in this is they wanted an easy race for him on his first visit to a UK track. They are extremey bullish about his chances and see this as no more than an excersise canter
You can still get 9/4 which is the steal of the meeting.
June 14, 2009 at 03:38 #233783I’m with the xenophobes- I’m glad we’re expanding your vocabulary on this Forum Fist
I’m deeply suspicious of the NAS form. He has to translate it to a very different track after a break after some big efforts, after travelling, under an inexperienced (of Ascot) jockey. If ever there was a horse that needed Frankie to set the fractions over the straight mile and do the difficult job of making all, it’s this fella. The jockey booking will rank up there with Murtagh getting off Fame and Glory afterwards. Add in the fact that the boys in blue have won a couple of poxy handicaps so far this season and I’m a layer at 2/1 or so.
The difficult bit is finding one against him- I’ve gone for Aqlaam at 12-1 to put his Lockinge disappointment behind him on better ground: I think he’ll stay the mile all right and I have vivid memories of him doing me a huge favour in last year’s Jersey.btw I just love the way Fist is making the case for every single Group 1 favourite at the Royal meeting- they won’t all win!

I wouldn’t worry about the jockey booking; Frankie is used to seeing his backside in Dubai, and I reckon my wife could win on this one, (Given time to get the weight off.
