Well the trends come good again and Paco Boy wins with plenty in hand, could not believe it how well this was going hitting the final furlong

Good things (i.e. real champions ) don’t go off at 5/2 or 9/4. The scalded cat tacics from Gladiatorus’s jockey didn’t help those who backed him. The writing was on the wall at half way. Poor effort from Godolphin.

I fancied Main Aim ( didn’t stay ) but thankfully did not back it.

Gladiatorus hits the ground so hard, I feel he will always need a cushion under foot to show his best form

I’m speechless. Just when you think Godolphin couldn’t get worse, they do that. I was expected him to flop but in much less spectacular fashion as that.

I just don’t understand how anyone could have trusted Bin Suroor in the past 4 years. They’ve got an Arc 3rd and a Sheema Classic winner running in the Gold Cup in 2 days ffs!

Anyway, am hoping Mythical Flight can secure a quick-fire double for me.

Zarkava, never never never say; well things can’t get any worse; never challenge the gods. How many times have you heard racing people say "things can’t get any worse"? Never.

Shocking display! The horse hasn’t run a message.

You know I heard something today a couple of hours before the race when I was watching a video.

I think it was on the Racing Post website. It’s one of those things you hear, think about and then put out of your mind.

The guy speaking said they were right to let the guy keep the ride as he hadn’t worked well for Frankie at the weekend.

Frankie being one of the best jockeys in the world that I found weird and thought if he isn’t working well for Frankie then he isn’t working well period.

Of course you hear these things after you have backed the horse you want tend ignore them.

However it seems the horse was no where near right and Godolpihin went there on a wing and a prayer and mugs like me were left in the dark

I wn’t be backing backing anything else they send out as so far nothing has looked remotely like winning at any stage.

Quite a few people – including myself – eating a massive slab of humble pie tonight. Without any custard. :D If I tried to get a race more wrong it would have been hard.

Well done Paco Boy. :D I notice Hannon is opposed to the Breeders Cup?

    Good call by Hannon.
He views the trip to the USA as "a long plane trip"
The abortive trip to Dubai proved an expensive mistake.
There are plenty of targets in the UK and France- hope the owners listen

Watching the replay, he did seem to be ‘climbing’ a bit, but he just didn’t run his race, plain and simple. Can’t really blame the jockey either, as he was beaten too far from home for his going off quickly to be the cause. These things happen, but to suggest his Duty Free win was stage-managed is even more ludicrous than suggesting it’s poor form.

    Stage managed? No

A real measure of the horse’s ability? Absolutely not…

You have to be careful what you say on these forums, but bear in mind the trainer of Gladiatorus recently had his endurance horses stripped of their titles due to a doping scandal.

Gladiatorus was also noticeably "leaner" than he was in Dubai.

Paco Boy. I think the whole will he won’t he stay a mile debate has well and truly been put to bed now. Night, night…… :D

Matt Williams will have to admit defeat and he got Paco Boy wrong, he seemed to love the fact he never stayed at Newbury after going on about it all the time, and Richard Hughes must have had enough and actually wrote to the letters page himself.

I think the "he won’t stay 1m" is pure nonsense if winning the bet365.com Mile was any indicator. And he beat the Lockinge winner in the process + recording his (then) second-best RPR.

What the doubt was (at least in my pre-race thoughts) staying the mile in a top class race. Unless that was actually the debate and not the more straightforward "he won’t stay a mile, period" one.

Considering there were ZERO Group 1 winners in the race over a mile, Paco Boy was probably the best acclaimed for the distance, even though the doubts surrounded him like vultures.

    All great in hindsight, though.

The like the comments that Gladiatorus was "half the horse he was in Dubai". That’s a sure-fire way for layers to get excited when he appears next.

Suggest shipping him to the States. Will appreciate the sharp bends I’d imagine.

On reviewing the race countless times, I thought Aqlaam was hitting the ground pretty hard as well, and maybe he’ll go better on good ground – possibly stepping down in trip to 7f now Paco Boy is safe as a miler.

Not many top class races over 7f in the UK and the Foret over 7f in France is a target for Paco Boy

I guess they will aim him at The Sussex Stakes next, would be the obvious choice imo.

Williams was a Freudian’s dream in his column today.

Frustrated at being utterly wrong in his assertions, he sought a displacement object for his aggression in the affable Mike Cattermole (though not named). Then he steamed in – quite harshly for the Post too.

Williams let himself down completely today. With Paco Boy, he took a view and was badly wrong. End of story. No-one died.
