That’s 2 nice winners grass, well done
April 29, 2025 at 17:53 #1728677Could be a cracking race here.
Hopefully no fallers and no excuses.
Marine Nationale at 5/2 for me.
April 29, 2025 at 17:57 #1728678Put Solness up as one of be following a few months back, but proceeded to miss him for both wins
I’ll give him another try
Solness 11’s
April 29, 2025 at 17:59 #1728679I’m also on Solness at 11s WIN only. Would be interesting to see if he can dominate from the front again. El Fabiolo might once again try to walk through a fence. Otherwise he would be of small interest at 7s.

Very similar to his Queen Mother win. He takes a few fences to get going then starts tanking. Brilliant horse.
April 29, 2025 at 18:06 #1728681That horse is not a chaser. Should never run over fences again.
Well done to Marine Nationale and connections.April 29, 2025 at 18:08 #1728683Thanks all, knew Champ Kiely had a good one in him. Well done anyone on Marine Nationale. Poor El Fab, Gary O’Brien said he jumped well up till then but I didn’t think so- battered a few and doesn’t look like a champion chaser. Don’t think he’s a hurdler really so can’t see a future for him.
April 29, 2025 at 18:08 #1728685Marine Nationale very classy, great to see him win so well.
April 29, 2025 at 18:09 #1728686“That horse is not a chaser. Should never run over fences again.”
I agree, enough’s enough, he’s going to kill himself.
April 29, 2025 at 18:15 #1728690Good performance by the winner.
To think just over a year ago El Fabiolo was thought to be the rising star in this division. Now he can hardly jump a fence.
Fact To File hit the first fence and never travelled. Not sure it was entirely the distance that beat him. I doubt he would have won any race today.
April 29, 2025 at 18:18 #1728692Not sure what to make of FTF there, seemed to travel fine early on but I noticed he was changing his legs quite a bit with a big knee action and for me he was struggling a little too far out for it to be a ‘couldn’t go the pace’ issue.
El Fab looked a big danger but barely took off at that fence, sooner or later the law of averages are going to catch up with him and he will end up killing himself with these continued falls – this is a plea for connections to go back hurdling with him for his own safety.
Fair play to the winner, he got the job done again but I am still not convinced that he is a special 2m Champion Chaser as the exposed Captain Guinness finished much closer to him than he did at Cheltenham and the division lacks any kind of depth currently.
Maybe I am being a bit too hard on him but I still remain to be convinced that he is more than a good horse.

Trained for a Gold Cup most of the season then back at 2 miles. Not easy to just go and do it over the minimum distance with a campaign like that, looked a shock to the system for the horse.
April 29, 2025 at 18:27 #1728695Mike – I don’t think he would have won today if the race was over 2m4f but I take your point that it was a bit of an after thought given how they started off the season thinking him as a Gold Cup horse.
Of course there is also the Punchestown affect that has continuously over the years seen a number of shorties get turned over and today was no different.
April 29, 2025 at 19:03 #1728700Lossiemouth out of the Champion Hurdle due to a minor issue. Very disappointing.
The bookies appeared to be in the know as usual as her odds where definitely slightly larger than they should’ve been.
April 29, 2025 at 19:26 #1728705Opener on Wednesday is some race, and I’ve had to ditch a few I really like, American Sniper, She’s A Fine Wine, and Cloonainra
In the end with this trio
Beyond Your Dreams 7’s
Kap Vert 20’s
Thanksforthehelp 18’sI’ll top up if they drift, but it’s some race

Best of luck to anyone ‘playing’ at Punchestown on Wednesday

I’m with you there, VTC. Cannot understand why he isn’t favourite for this: the ground will suit him far more than it will Galopin, he proved he stays the trip in the King George and he has excellent Punchestown form.
Yes, he bombed out in the Gold Cup but he wasn’t subjected to a hard race when beaten and the ground would not have been to his liking that day; besides, all horses can be excused one below-par effort.
I have him as my bet of the day tomorrow.
