Money back safely in running for the pair of them yesterday. Before Midnight wasn’t that big a bet, and if he’d stayed around 9-2, I wouldn’t have bothered, but as he touched 9’s before the off, it made sense.
Regal Encore was a bigger bet, for all he was verging on being a sentimental selection, but for a brief moment he looked like being bang there, and that was enough to claw it back. Bit of a moral dilemma with him now, I will keep betting him, but I’d also like to see connections take that dilemma out my hands.
Cracking cards today at Carlisle band Galway.
In the second at Carlisle, I’m torn between Grey Skies and Donny Boy, both very backable prices, but it’s not a race where I can justify two selections, so I’ll sit that out, while Beauport, who I liked in The Colin Parker, well I’ve missed the price with him.
I’ll go with old Wholestone at Carlisle. Getting on a bit, but huge price at the moment (which is a worry), and he’s decent fresh.
I’ll go with another old boy at Galway with Real Steel, who showed promise last time.
Looking forward to seeing Thedevilscoachman out, and I think he should have a good season over fences.
1350 Galway – Real Steel
1505 Carlisle – WholestoneOctober 30, 2022 at 17:56 #1621064Some nice picks there today Bobby, not far off the mark as always
October 31, 2022 at 01:39 #1621098Cheers Ken
Really good day, ended up betting both of them EW, but given how low the pair of them went in running, I made more off laying a bit back than I would’ve from the place money.
Only frustrating part of day was not betting Beauport, but happy with getting good returns from that pair, considering the SP’s of 22’s and 16’s
I really shouldn’t, but after that Sunday, and having broke even Saturday, I’ll have a few smaller bets for interest today.
I thought Hunting Brook was very interesting on debut, but decidedly less so next time. He’s a decent price right now, and definitely betting him, so hope he continues to drift. Also at Hereford is The Garrison. A pretty run of the mill type, but they really had a good go last time, and eased three pounds, and with an interesting booking in Tom Scudamore, I was happy to have a go. (Non Runner)
Couple in Ireland too. I’ve won off of Malayan before, but she rather lost her way. She very unpopular here, but I’m still surprised with the odds, and happy to take the BOG right now, with a view to a few quid more on if she drifts a lot bigger. Already won at Galway too. At Wexford, I want to bet Our Bobby with a bit more confidence, but I see him more as one to bet with a view to getting at least stakes back in running, as he always seems to find a couple too good.
Four on a Monday, it’s not too often this happens, so not going nuts, and certainly no big bets in there.
1310 Galway – Malayan 25’s EW 5pls
1405 Wexford – Our Bobby 8’s
1545 Hereford – The Garrison 14’sNovember 3, 2022 at 11:55 #1621417Our Bobby went exactly as planned, well almost. Race was his when he tipped up at the last a length down, but as I said all about getting a good return in running, and job done. Really good return, but a real shame he didn’t actually land it.
The Garrison also paid his way, and comfortably stake back from him, but very lucky to get that back. I wasn’t convinced about putting him up, and I got away with it. Really average run/selection.
No joy from Malayan, but she looked threatening to a point, and I’d consider her again.
Wanted to play on with the Our Bobby returns, but couldn’t see anything last couple of days. Not the case today though.
Going for Herbiers as usual, and he’s got to have a shout in the first at Newbury. Problem I have, is that happy with the 6’s, I’ve been hit with a 10p Rule 4, and 6’s was minimum I’d have taken on him. He’s around 5-2 just now, and I’d struggle to bet him at those odds.
Another one who’s back out at Newbury is Siruh Du Lac, and I’m seriously considering him at 20’s+, with a view to laying in running.
At Sedgefield, I though Esme Shelby was way too big at 16’s, and I’d expect a run for my money.
At Thurles, I thought this might be ideal for David’s Lad on handicap debut, while old regular Irregularheartbeat, is a straightforward selection for me.
1250 Newbury – Herbiers 6’s
1420 Sedgefield – Esme Shelby 16’s
1450 Thurles – David’s Lad 25’s EW 6pls
1522 Thurles – Irregularheartbeat 10’sNovember 3, 2022 at 20:22 #1621487Some performances that from Herbiers, and really happy with him. Been a great horse to follow, and he’s really paid his way.
He was main bet too.Only really betting because of him and Irregularheartbeat today. Irregularheartbeat was in process of running his race when he got stopped slightly in the bend. I’ll definitely be be betting him again this season, and I’m sure he’ll get his head in front.
Least said about the other two, the better.
Definitely playing again tomorrow after that from Herbiers, and willing to give Hunting Brook another try after being a Non Runner Monday. Also at Exeter is Neon Moon, and though almost an afterthought selection, I think he’s got a better chance than his odds suggest.
Very much like Herbiers, Echo Watt is a horse who’s really laid his way, and I’m happy to be with him, as his mark continues to slide.
Not intending to bet him, but I’ll be interested to see how From The Ashes fares tomorrow over fences at Down Royal
1315 Exeter – Hunting Brook
1500 Exeter – Neon Moon
1525 Fontwell – Echo Watt 8’sNovember 4, 2022 at 23:49 #1621638Small profit from Neon Moon, but it’s the other two who I’m more interested in going forward. Hunting Brook wouldn’t have won, but for a coming together two out, he’d have been closer, and just missed out on getting my money back. Needs to brush up on his jumping, but I’ll be following him.
I thought I was nailed on to get back the stakes on Echo Watt, but I missed it by a whisker, and he’ll come again this season.
Seriously good racing Saturday, and a good few I’d love to bet, but won’t be for a few reasons
Galvin – Proper favourite of mine, but having bet him for Gold Cup, no need to bet him here. I’m also very interested in Conflated this year, and not too be underestimated.
McFabulous – Like Galvin, been following him since the start, but far too short here.
Dashel Drasher – Hopefully he can get his head in front this year, but he’s usually rusty first time out, and short enough. If he drifted, I’d maybe reconsider
Remastered – Just want to see him run well as a prep for Newbury
Cougar – Novice Hurdler who’s too short tomorrow, but think he’ll have a big year
I have bet a few though.
Starting off with Grand Sefton, which I’ve made a mess of. Already bet Coopers Cross 12’s and Percussion 66’s, but I’m wanting Gesskile in there. Plan just now is to lay them off if I get a chance beforehand, and then bet in running.
As per big races, I’m with old favourite Frodon, Teed Up, and Tarhib. I’d love to see Frodon do it. He’s been so good to me, and I’d love him to have one last big season. He’s nice and short now, and easily my biggest bet of the day, so with that in mind, I’ve laid my stake back already for a free race.
Charli Parcs paid his way last time, and I’ll give him another go, while at Kelso, Kaizer looks to have a lot going for him
Wentworth – Tarhib 8’s
Badger Beer – Frodon 12’s (laid stake)
1358 Down Royal – Charli Parcs
Grand Sefton – Gesskile 14’s EW
Grand Sefton – Percussion 50’s EW/66’s
1418 Kelso – Kaizer 16’s
November Handicap – Teed Up 10’sNovember 6, 2022 at 01:24 #1621931Smashing day that, and topped off by Frodon doing the business yet again for me. Biggest winner of the season so far, and he should run a few more big races this year.
Grand Sefton was just as good, with Gesskile getting a hefty profit in running, and Percussion landing the EW money at 50’s. Winner would have been better, but a very good race for me.
Add to that the decent profits in running from Kaizer, Teed Up, and Charli Parcs, and just a really good day all round.
Best news of the day was McFabulous being safe and well, and loved seeing Dashel Drasher getting his head in front. Really hopeful now about Remastered for The Coral Gold Cup, and I thought he won very well indeed.
Very poor from Galvin, and I thought he didn’t look right all race, but I’m loving that Cougar, and I just think he’ll be very good.
Got to have a go today.
My main hope in The Cork National is Captain Kangaroo, with old friend Screaming Colours as backup. I really like Siberian Prince as well, but two is enough.
Main hope in the big race at Naas is Flying Scotsman, while Dunvegan is the EW option. Definitely considered Falcon Eight, and I’ll watch him in running.
At Sandown, I’ve went with The Cob on the opener, and later, for all I’ve bet Ballyandy many a time, I just wonder if Gwencily Berbas can spring a shock (Non Runner)
Very close to betting Grand Paradis too, but I’ll look in running. Interested in him again this year.
1250 Sandown – The Cob 6’s
Nov Handicap – Flying Scotsman 10’s
Nov Handicap – Dunvegan EW6pl
Cork National – Captain Kangaroo
Corn National – Screaming Colours 7’sNovember 6, 2022 at 10:20 #1621952Great picks BoBby,
November 6, 2022 at 10:33 #1621955Great set of selections! Remastered looked strong (only race I saw). Brilliant to have him for the Coral Gold Cup. Percussion was an inspired bet. 12s for Frodon was magic. Hope you keep up the winning pattern.
November 8, 2022 at 09:51 #1622229Thanks guys, appreciated, decent weekend that.
Another happy day Sunday. Captain Kangaroo was main bet, and he won it easier than I expected. Been waiting him out for a while, and it went great, and got 12’s before the off. Screaming Colours was lacklustre, but I’ve buckled and backed him now for Chepstow.
November Handicap at Naas was poor for me, but for all The Cob was a smaller price at 6’s, he went so low in running, that I took my stake back.
Wanted to play on Monday, but couldn’t see a bet, so trying today.
Main hope is at Lingfield, and probably the one who twisted my arm to have a bet today, Super Duper Sam. Thought he showed plenty of ability last season, and has showed enough to suggest that his debut win was no fluke. The opening 20’s was way too big, and I topped up to four places at 12’s (Non Runner)
I’ve added three at Fairyhouse, but not as confident about these as Super Duper. Miss Pronunciation is probably a longer term project, but must be worth an EW chance, as she hits 25’s, while Calico has been fairly steady, and must have an EW chance too. The Connector will probably need this, but looks a type to track.
Edit
With Sam a Non Runner now, I’ll just bet the other three in running, if, I think there’s a chance. Only betting today because of Super Duper Sam, and I’ve been here before. They’ll have to be going well for me to bet them, and will obviously be shorter of their current big odds.
November 9, 2022 at 10:33 #1622352Very good decision yesterday, and a bullet dodged, though I missed a good profit pre race on The Connector. Money for him noted, and I’ll watch out for him.
I’ll play on today instead, and I love a bet on the Wednesday 3 Miler at Bangor every year. A race where it usually makes sense to target a young up and comer, though I was interested in Notachance and Kalooki too. The one I’ve went for is definitely not a young buck, and it’s old Blaklion. Showed nothing in seasonal debut, but he did show some of his old zest last season, and he’s hovering around 50’s, so he’s the bet.
In the next I’ve bet George’s Saint, as I think he’s potentially miles better than we seen last year. He’s getting hammered in the betting, which I’m not actually that happy with, as it’s normally the kids of death when I put one up where the price has already gone. I’m definitely laying back the stake on him before the off.
Bangor
1435 Blaklion EW 5pls
1505 George’s Saint 14’sNovember 11, 2022 at 10:06 #1622509Blaklion was a no show, but happy enough with the free bet on George’s Saint. Liked that run a lot, and definitely one to persevere with.
Got a few today.
Works been insane last two days, and having bet a couple Antepost, took my eye off the ball with the opening prices at Cheltenham.
I really liked Grey Diamond, Magic Dancer, and Hubrisko, but completely missed the price on all three of them.
I also missed the price on Great Realisation in the last. Didn’t get a sniff of the 20’s, and took 12’s. He’s at least, back out to 16’s now, and I’ll add him EW, as long as he remains at that price.
In the opener going with Ellaat, while as per Big Races, I’m with My Manikeneko in The Veterans.
Finally, at Newcastle, Tralee Hills is touching 25’s, and he’ll be added either EW, or in running. Given a hopeless task last time.
Ellaat EW 6pls
My Manikeneko EW 4pls/28’s
Tralee Hills
Great Realisation 12’sNovember 12, 2022 at 13:01 #1622738Worst day for ages that, and after a prolonged good run, it ground to a halt.
Ellaat was actually decent, and got cracking odds for him on exchange, and missed out on a free bet in running on him by half a point.
After that though, they all ran abysmally, and though not the biggest Antepost I’ll ever put on, my mood wasn’t improved by the news that Royal Pagaille would miss The Betfair. Add in the win of Magic Dancer, and I wasn’t happy.
Bit more reserved today, but hopeful of Umbrigado in The Paddy Power. Considering old Coole Cody, but Midnight River is giving me a headache. Never been a “Midnight” horse that I’ve latched on to, and I thought he wasn’t good enough for this, but he does have an unexposed look about him.
Not betting Banbridge for National Hunt Chase looks a wise move now, as he takes in The Arkle Trial. Too short today, but I’ve bet him for Turners, with a view to splitting him in Arkle if things go well today.
Later on the card, having a good look at old Lisnagar Oscar, as he looks overpriced with good claimer. I’ll think about him along with Sir Bob at Naas. See how it goes earlier.
Bet a couple today at Wetherby. Zanza looked a huge price at 14’s, while after the exploits of Herbiers and Gesskile, I’m paying closer attention now to connections, who seem to be going well, and I’ve went with Homme Public
Finally, very happy with the run of Brazil there at Naas. Far too short for me today, but remains one to be very interested in this season
1353 Wetherby – Zanza 14’s
Paddy Power – Umbrigado 16’s EW 4pls/20’s
1455 Cheltenham – Lisnagar Oscar 14’s EW 4pls
1503 Wetherby – Homme Public 5’sNovember 12, 2022 at 20:12 #1622851I had to back My Manikeneko too because I’ve backed him in many of his Irish races but never got to see him cause WHill don’t show them.
November 13, 2022 at 13:40 #1622974You didn’t miss much Moe, he was a no show, and I was fairly confident too.
Better day yesterday. Umbrigado was main bet, and I just and no more, got that back in running. Zanza was a strange one. Bet him at 14’s, and I thought the game was up, but I put a lay in anyway, even though he was 80’s at the time on the exchange. If I’d known he’d go so close, I’d have put it in for a profit, but as it was, got my stake back, and I’d have snapped the hand off for that at halfway.
Lisnagar Oscar was a bet for the sake of a bet, and kicking myself, but last but not least was Homme Public. He absolutely romped it, and following these connections is paying off big time. I like them a lot.
Bit rushed today, so here’s todays bets…
I’ll probably be betting Memento later, but earlier bets will dictate whether it’s before the off, in running, or whether I leave him completely
The strangest shout for me today was going to be Ganapathi. The Shloer is a poor renewal, and I wouldn’t be the biggest Nube Negra fan. Hope Lemons doesn’t read that lol. I decided against it though, for all I like betting these Mullins cast offs
Lismullen – Sire Du Berlais 22’s EW
Southern National – Cyclop 14’s EW 4pl
Jewson – Domaine De L’Isle 16’s
Greatwood – N’Golo EW 5pl/33’sNovember 14, 2022 at 13:02 #1623097Decent EW in the end with Cyclop hitting 22’s, while Ganapathi did indeed go in the notebook.
Happy enough with Sire Du Berlais, and he should win again this season. Even with that win at Aintree, he should be in The Pertemps off a much lower mark than last year, and he’s almost certainly going to be an Antepost of mine for that.
Run of the mill weekend though, and shouldn’t be looking at Plumpton on a Monday, but I’d kick myself if Super Duper Sam ran well, and I didn’t give him a good word.
Super Duper Sam 20’s EW 4pls
November 15, 2022 at 01:14 #1623160Really happy with that from Super Duper Sam, and I thought he looked the winner the whole way round. Only heading into straight did it start to look he’d have to settle for second, and so it proved. Should win a few races at his level, and remains one to follow.
Great round of jumping, bar the last, from McFabulous at Exeter today, and not for the first time, I think he could be a King George horse, for all he’s not getting any younger.
Definitely playing on after Sam, and betting a couple today. The Priests Leap looked far too big at 12’s at Fairyhouse, and the extra place helps. In the opener at Hereford I think that the current 14’s looks ok for First Venture. Taken that, but as BOG, I hope it drifts
