After the abysmal run from First Venture, I decided to give myself a free day, and laid The Priests Leap before the off for my stakes for the day.
That cut away the EW returns more or less, but I wasn’t too fussed, as bizarre as it sounds, I don’t like these selections that get hammered like that, it just seemed too good to be true. I was happy with 12’s, but he went crazy low before the off, and having opened at 16’s, I just thought “nah”, and it proved a wise move, for all I’d have got a few extra quid if I hadn’t laid him.
Since yesterday worked out ok, I’ll play on.
At Hexham today, I think Hillview is a bit overpriced, even if the market says the fav is already home and hosed. I’d be hopeful of getting my stakes back in running at the very least.
I’m drawn in by old Ramses De Teille in The Veterans at Warwick. I like both him and stablemate Gwencily Berbas, though there’s the niggling thought that this’ll be a prep for future targets. I’ve got my eye on Gwencily for Exeter next month, but I’m swayed today by Ramses De Teille not in the entries for Chepstow. I just can’t ignore him off this mark.
Celebre D’Allen a notebook horse of mine from last year, and I’m a huge fan, but too short for me today.
1253 Hexham – Hillview 10’s
1515 Warwick – Ramses De Teille 8’sNovember 16, 2022 at 15:24 #1623343I wondered if you’d backed Ramses. He’s a bit of a cliff horse for me but I deserted him today. What a grand horse he is, though. Hope Snow Leopardess is ok.
November 17, 2022 at 01:38 #1623414Just couldn’t desert him moe, just always liked him. That was a joy to watch today.
Bet him to win what I’d lost on him over the last couple of years, and a wee bit extra on top, and never really had a nervous moment. Just brilliant performance, and I was very very happy.
Not so chuffed earlier with Hillview. Had put a lay in first to get my stake back, and just assumed he’d hit it, as he cruised into it. Checked afterwards, and wasn’t even close. Liked what I saw though, and reckon I’ll bet him again. The winner Crystal Glory looked very good.
No option but to continue Thursday, but maybe clutching a little bit.
Fidux has a reasonable record fresh, and though is almost certainly a run to blow the cobwebs away, he’s hitting 20’s, and I’m drawn in, with him back over timber (Abandoned)
Grange Walk at Clonmel also appeals. Travelled well for a long way last time, and I think he can finish off better this time around. He’s around 8’s at the moment which looks fair.
1347 Clonmel – Grange Walk
November 18, 2022 at 01:23 #1623513Great effort from Grange Walk, and comfortably got my money back. Should have been a small profit too, but I didn’t bother shaving a few more pounds off, as I was pretty sure he was going to win. Which he didn’t. Happy enough getting cash back though, and back for more today…
Me going for Regal Encore is hardly a surprise, and as he showed just enough last time, I can still make a case for him, and he’s still not quite solely a sentimental selection. Really like the fav, Smarty Wild too. Travelling very well at Kempton, when he took a desperate fall. If over that, he has a great chance
Also going with Do Your Job again. Thought he had excuses at Aintree, and he’s fresh from a Wind Op. Rarely I’ll bet one at 4’s, but I do like this horse. Janika no back number at 9’s as well
Ascot
1405 – Do Your Job 4’s
1440 – Regal Encore 18’s EW 4plsNovember 19, 2022 at 02:11 #1623633Very poor selections yesterday, and at a push, might have a look at Do Your Job for something at the spring festivals. As for Regal Encore, painful to watch, and should he be forced to do it at again at Ascot next month, I’ll be very surprised.
My main interest today is Frodon. I’ll be honest, I actually think he can run well here. The 33’s after Final Decs was just way too big, and I added it to my shrewd 20’s Antepost. A Plus Tard is an amazing horse, and on song hard to beat, but I have to stick with Frodon.
Earlier on card I’m with Brinkley and Wholestone in The Stayers. They’re not as big bets as I was planning on Main Fact, but I like this race and a few quid on.
Elsewhere on the card I’ve went with Lord Du Mesnil (Non Runner), who impressed at Bangor last week, while I’ll be closely watching Benson, who’s a good looking project for Sandy Thomson.
No bets at Punchestown, but in the 1338, Lovely Reaction looks an interesting newcomer, and maybe one to watch closely mid race.
Two at Ascot, and with Before Midnight in The Hurst Park Chase, and Midnightreflection (Non Runner) in The Mares Hurdle
Stayers – Brinkley 14’s
Stayers – Wholestone 33’s EW 5pls/25’s
Betfair Chase – Frodon 33’s EW
Hurst – Before Midnight 12’s EW 4plsNovember 20, 2022 at 01:37 #1623917Bit better Saturday. Wholestone a decent EW at 33’s, but should have been more, but for that Antepost on Main Fact. Decent profit in running with Before Midnight too. As mentioned, Lovely Reaction are a very interesting recruit on that showing.
Superb card at Punchestown, and with Midnight Maestro in The Risk of Thunder.
Very keen on Sharjah and Thedevilscoachman, but both far too short. Having a bet in the 1255, but I’ll only bet one between Falco Blitz, who’s currently 40’s, and Snugsborough Benny who’s currently 33’s.With a couple at Exeter, though I’d need earlier winners to back Holly, who I still think’s a promising one. I’ve gone with Neon Moon again, while Didero Vallis too big a price to ignore, while my old pal Jepeck is back out at Uttoxeter, and as usual, looks too big. Should surely be able to at least get a profit from him in running.
Risk of Thunder – Midnight Maestro 5’s
1425 Exeter – Neon Moon 10’s
1433 Uttoxeter – Jepeck 25’s
1500 Exeter Didero Vallis EW 5plsNovember 22, 2022 at 00:18 #1624127Very average Sunday, though Didero Vallis put a better slant on things. That would have been enough for a respectable day, however I put more on Midnight Maestro when he went out to 12’s, and I deserved all I got. Swerved that Chase at Punchestown that Snugsborough Benny would have went close for being brought down, and one to take note of later. Would have got a decent lay in him in running as well.
One bet Tuesday, and it’s another go with Irregularheartbeat. Shaped really nicely last time, and though short enough, got to give her a go.
Irregularheartbeat 5’s
November 24, 2022 at 00:36 #1624315Irregularheartbeat a daft selection, and I regretted it the minute I put it up. I should only be putting up these lower grade ones when they’re a price, and it was not a good bet.
Echo Watt is another I follow in a lower grade, and he’s getting close to double figures. If he does I’ll cover him four places.
Betting two JP runners, Go As You Please, and Asluckwouldhave it, while my main interest of the day will be The Goffer, who I really like for The Kim Muir.
Nine To Five a really interesting runner for Sandy Thomson at Kelso, while I’m interested in Jack In The Box tomorrow at Thurles for Elliot, and hoping that he can be one to follow later in season.
Considering this trio EW on top of these Win bets
1255 Lingfield – Echo Watt 8’s
1440 Thurles – Asluckwouldhaveit 12’s
1520 Taunton – Go As You Please 25’sNovember 24, 2022 at 18:51 #1624377Absolutely delighted with The Goffer today, and the only concern is that he’s maybe win too well. Happy happy, and I’ll allow myself a rare aftertime with him, as I capitulated and took the 15-2. My thinking was that no point missing him
at good odds, and the rest of the year not going to plan.Echo Watt strolled through the race next, and would have won but for belting one close home. He went very low, and money safely back.
Thought my day was going to even better after that pair, but the JP pair got thumped.
On to tomorrow, and hoping for a big run from my Brown Advisory bet, Beauport. 3’s is big, but no need to bet at that price, with that Cheltenham bet. If he hit 4’s however.
In the last I’ll have a wee interest, and splitting stakes with Fidux and Pileon. No EW, so I’ll look to get it back at least during the race.
Dashel Drasher 9’s
Fidux 33’s
Pileon 20’sNovember 24, 2022 at 20:37 #1624389We were at Kelso today and I’d backed Ninetofive the night before. When we got to the track there’d been a lot of money on him so I was quite hopeful but when we saw him at the last fence Ryan was making no effort at all. Haven’t read the race review so not sure if he was just going backwards. My top rated horse in the next was Halcyon Dreams so I had to back it with Emma riding. But when I looked at it’s race record it looked a complete no hoper. There was money going on that one too though, and it ran quite well so I’m going to keep an eye on it going forward. We left early because the rain set in and the dog was cold but it was good to get back there and meet up with some old friends.
November 26, 2022 at 12:27 #1624601Yeah, I didn’t think he actually merited the market support Moe, but he’s one for long term. Three or four years since I’ve been to Kelso, and I’ll have to make the effort.
Big day today, and with Remastered being a fairly hefty Antepost, I’ve laid back stake, and a wee bit for profit before the off. Scu choosing Gericault, along with the weather, meant this was just a sensible decision for me.
Corach Rambler or Gericault Roque will be added as a sensible win backup from that profit, but considering he was probably my #1 for this three years ago, I just have to cover Diablo Du Rouhet, with Henderson running him from out the handicap. Unlikely, but I’d be sick as a dog if he did it. Can’t possibly put him up a selection, considering the sentimentaly, and lack of evidence that he has a shout, but I have to cover the possibility.
As per Big Race threads, also with Grivetana and Dingo Dollar. L’Homme Presse a definite Gold Cup contender, but I’m hoping Dingo can sneak a place, but as I said, when the price was that big, that itself gives you a doubt. Dallas Des Pictons a very interesting one too.
The other bet today will be Bun Doran. He’s around 10’s just now, and earlier results will depend whether it’s a bet for interest or not.
Inothewayurethinkin is one I’m keeping tabs on, and hoping he can run well at Gowran, while I’m kind of hoping that McFabulous is a respectable second at Newbury. I’m trying to bet him for next years King George, but nobody biting at the moment, maybe because of this entry. Perhaps a better chance of getting that bet on if he doesn’t win today.
Gerry Fielden – Grivetana 16’s EW
Coral Gold Cup – Remastered 33’s
Rehearsal – Dingo Dollar 25’s EW
1540 Newbury – Bun DoranNovember 26, 2022 at 12:36 #1624605What do you think about McFabulous today? I know it’s 3 miles but it’s flat and there are only 3 in it so presumably won’t go a silly pace. I think Thyme Hill could struggle over the Newbury fences.
November 26, 2022 at 12:43 #1624607I think he’s got a chance definitely, and I think there’s a good chance I’ll be mad at missing a big price for Kempton next year. I’ve always liked him, but happy to leave him today Grass, just a bit too short for me.
November 26, 2022 at 12:45 #1624609Ps if I can’t have the big race winner today, I hope Oscar does it for you. You’re the same as me, target one you like, and stick with him. Good luck
November 26, 2022 at 12:57 #1624616Chantry House was actually my cliff horse for the TTF but Oacar Elite counts as well. I’m adding more of them! Thanks for the good wishes. Melling Chase for McFab target 2nd half of season?
November 26, 2022 at 14:41 #1624692I think that’s a realistic shout Grass, and after that performance he surely goes Kempton next, and I don’t see why not Aintree too.
November 27, 2022 at 11:48 #1624827Very very bittersweet day yesterday.
Remastered gave me a really big return for a loser. The pre-race lay, along with lay in running was my biggest return of the season. It was that hefty an Antepost, that it just made sense, and my fourth biggest lay, just behind Tiger Roll (2018 pre race), and Double Seven (2014 in running), in The National, and Dr Harper pre race in the 2017 Kim Muir
Good return or not, I felt gutted after it. The 33’s was insane, and only the combination of the ground, Skelton knocking seven shades of sh*t out the winner, and that bloody loose horse, stopped me. Very rare I’ll take a loser hard like that, but was in the doldrums after it. As you can tell, I’m clearly over it now lol.
Anyway, I’ll probably only have one, maybe two bigger Anteposts all season, and he did me proud. He’s miles ahead of that mark, and it would not surprise me to see him get a Gold Cup entry.
Grievetana gave me a decent return in The Gerry Fielden, but Bun Doran was poor.
Equally poor was Dingo Dollar. I was swayed by that price Antepost, though I did smell a rat, and I’ll watch if the firms that went 25’s go bizarrely big on one of his again. Temperamental sort old Dingo, and starting to suspect that that switch to Sandy Thomson has maybe had its best effect now, and maybe one to be very careful with.
Wish I had bet McFabulous, that was a joy to watch, and now to try and get decent odds for Kempton next year. Really happy with Inothewayurthinkin too, and should be betting him soon.
As per Big Race Thread, tentatively with Coko Beach and School Boy Hours in The Troytown, while chanced Flight Deck at Carlisle.
Earlier at Carlisle is Ice Coast. I’m increasingly following the Greenall/Guerriero outfit, and though the market suggests todays not the day, I’m definitely having a bet.
I’ll be watching the progress of Comfort Zone at Navan
1230 Carlisle – Ice Coast 8’s
Troytown – Coko Beach 80’s EW 5pls
Troytown – School Boy Hours 25’s EW 6pls
