Well I was due a proper whitewash, and that’s what I got today.

Absolutely nothing to write home about, and not a chance to recoup any stakes. Can’t even grumble about my main two fancies, as they were both ridden how I hoped.

Hopefully that’ll be it till Saturday now.

Are you having a go at Thunderosa tomorrow VTC? Looks like there is money for it already

Yeah, definitely Ken. I’ve taken the 10’s BOG, but a big problem with the race. I’ve also been waiting out She’s All Vintage, and I’m also very keen on Sir Bob, and I couldn’t believe the opening 25’s for him. There’s no way I can justify three in a race like this, so very very reluctantly leaving out Vintage.

So I’ve split stakes with Thunderosa 10’s, and Sir Bob 25’s.

Good luck if you’re having a go.

A cracking days racing, if it goes ahead, but sounds like a big if. Very difficult to bet tonight, as got a lot of potential bets. If every meeting survives, I can’t bet em all, so have to make a decision in morning, though have bet a couple early.

    Ascot
Not betting in The Mares Hurdle, but very interested in how Magic of Light gets on. I think she’s very good, and though my Gold Cup bet on her seems a bit of a fantasy up to 410’s, I think she’ll head there if today goes well, so I want to see a big run.

I’m on the verge of taking that 6’s NRNB for Politologue for Champion Chase, and if I do, it’ll probably have to be before the off. Cracking line up, and great to see Waiting Patiently who landed the exacta for me in The King George. Definitely no bet in this.

No bet either in the opener, but Tritonic a very interesting NH recruit, and he’s straight in the notebook. Got me a couple of returns on the flat last season. Very interesting.

In the 1425, I’ll Chance Bigirononhiship. He’s high enough in the weights, but this looks winnable, and he’s decent on his day. Happy to wait with him though as he’s drifting.

In the 1500 Dashel Drasher. Notebook horse of mine this year, and very happy with how he done it last time. I’ve every confidence he’ll the best horse in the race long term, but this is much tougher. His mark looks high enough right now, but I just like him a lot, and he should be there. Very happy with 7’s, but an outside chance of beating that, so I’m holding on. Last years winner Domaine De L’Isle is dangerous off this mark, but did look to sulk last time. Good Boy Bobby is another obvious danger. If all the meetings go ahead tomorrow, it’ll be too busy a day to have another in this, but if any meetings fall by the wayside, I’d be very happy to have Jerrysback too. Hopefully he’s back as good as ever.

    Haydock
By all accounts a miracle this hasn’t been canned yet.

The Peter Marsh has been a good race for me, but my main fancy Royal Pagaille is just too short. I really like this horse, and though too short to bet tomorrow, I’ve bet him for Gold Cup NRNB, and also keen on him for King George. I’ve got to have a bet though in this, and I’m keen on Claud and Goldie EW, for all I’m also a big fan of Sam Brown.

At the moment Faivoir isn’t getting bet in The Supreme Trial, but he’s a very interesting type, and even as I type, I’m on the verge of buckling with the 8’s. Mad price.

In the 1425, I’m torn between Milvale and Donna’s Diamond. Slight preference for the latter, and he’s the bet, though Milvale is a very promising horse who I could see featuring in a Rendlesham.

Later on the card, I’ll be cheering on old favourite Ballyandy without a bet. He should go well here, but I won’t be betting him.

I’ve been waiting over two years to bet Reivers Lad, and though he goes well fresh, this kind of layoff might be pushing it. Still, he’s 9-2, and that’s very tempting.

In the finale, it’s hard to make a strong case for Aristo Du Plessis, but he’s back to near last winning mark, and the 5lbs that the very useful Rachel McDonald takes off could be important. Big price.

    Navan
The Navan Hurdle is some race. I’ve bet Column of Fire for The Pertemps, and I reckon this is a perfect stepping stone. He’s a big price here on his own though, and it’s very tough not betting him. All part of “the game”. Equally hard to desert is Campeador. His best form is over shorter, but he’s hard to desert too, with his huge price, and Jack Kennedy up. I might still be swayed, but in the meantime, I’ll go with Battle of Midway. Very talented horse, big price, and a lenient mark for top connections.

As mentioned to Kendicate, the 1432 is equally tough….. I’ve taken the 10’s BOG Thunderosa, but a big problem with the race.

    Taunton
I’ve only one Antepost bet this week, and that’s Rock The Kasbah in The Portman Cup. If I’d known I’d have so many potential bets, I would’ve left him. I took 7’s, but I can easily beat that now, but no intention of topping up.

The other one I like at Taunton is Agent Valdez, but he will very much depend on how earlier bets go.

This is the plan at the moment, but subject to change, and I could see an updated list later. Possibly too many bets, but I’ll play it by ear.

Navan Hurdle – Battle of Midway
    1405 Haydock – Donna’s Diamond
Portman Cup – Rock The Kasbah 7’s
    1425 Ascot – Bigirononhiship
    1432 Navan – Sir Bob 25’s
    1432 Navan – Thunderosa 10’s
Peter Marsh – Claude and Goldie EW 4pls
    1500 Ascot – Dashel Drasher
1550 Haydock – Aristo Du Plessis

Relief today as Faivoir 17-2, and Dashel Drasher 7’s did the business.

Not a spectacular day, but those two kept me ahead, which is just as well, as bar Reivers Lad, the rest were bang average.

Particularly happy with Dashel, and I was over the moon with Royal Pagaille, considering the Anteposts.

Almost a complete copy and paste from the other night….

I’ve only got four, what I would consider, decent sized Anteposts for Cheltenham this year, and unfortunately one of them was Frodon in The Ryanair.

I’ve one last chance to tidy it up, and that’s from Annamix today. I’d love him to win at Thurles, as I’d surely be able to green out then. Seems unlikely though, as I can’t see him winning at all. He just doesn’t seem good enough. Hope I’m wrong.

I’ll be cheering him on, though seems no point betting him.

In the next, I’m interested in Jack Dillinger, Kitten Rock, Peaches and Cream, & Gun Digger. I thought off the current mark that Gun Digger had a chance.

    Gun Digger 25’s

Very average from Gun Digger today, not much more to say about him.

As for Annamix, as suspected, just no good enough, and not up to the level of a Ryanair. Laid off a bit at 55’s before the off, but certainly not enough to make a huge difference, and it looks another difficult race for me to judge Antepost.

One of my favourite races of the year The Thyestes, and typically tough one to call.

Always one of my bigger betting races, and my main hopes are Brahma Bull, and Acapella Bourgeois. Brahma went straight into the notebook for this in November, and it’s the one race I wanted to see him in. I honestly think if he jumps round, he’ll win. Big fancy. Just need him to jump.

I’ve always liked Acapella, bet him a few times, and he’s very hard to leave out of things. Happy with my odds on him.

I’ve bet Spyglass Hill as the backup. Being the backup, he’s obviously not as big a bet as the other pair, but I did mention him a few times at the start of the season as a horse to follow. Things didn’t start well for him, but he’s getting well supported, and his Gold Cup entry didn’t go unnoticed. He showed loads of potential last year, and he’s got an obvious chance. I’ve took a few quid at 1000’s for Cheltenham. I was going to lay off a few quid tonight for this around 7’s, but it’s The Thyestes, so I’ll let it run.

    Dangers everywhere….

Any Second Now – My big Aintree hope, and I really don’t want him winning this. He could quite easily. I honestly think for all he’s a “target” horse, that he could acquit himself well outwith Handicaps.

Ten Ten – Notebook horse of mine, and convinced he’s got a big prize in him.

Alpha Des Obeaux – Another old favourite, who might just be the forgotten horse here.

Coko Beach – A big winner waiting to happen, no doubt in my mind.

Run Wild Fred – Bet him last time, and thought he was worth following again, but I can’t be betting em all.

Away from The Thyestes, we have The Galmoy Hurdle. I’ve went with Burrows Saint at 9’s. I really like him for The Bobbyjo, but he has hurdles form, and Rachel Blackmore got a great tune out of him last season at Punchestown. I’ve not bet Great White Shark yet, with my Stayers bet in mind, but she’s getting near a backable price.

Sandwiched by those two races, is The Adare Manor Hurdle, and I’m going with Oscar Sam. He was a regular for me a few seasons back, on my old “Play It Again” system. He was a pretty dependable type, really liked him. I assumed he’d retired, but he’s back in the scene after a three year hiatus, and he ran a big race last time. He’s 50’s at the moment, and I just can’t leave that alone.

I’m having a rare Meydan bet too. Been patiently waiting for the return of Stunning Beauty, and she’s in The Cape Verdi at 1615. I thought she’d be a lot shorter with Dettori up, but I was happy with 7-2. A real notebook horse for me, and I think she could very good.

Galmoy Hurdle – Burrows Saint 9’s
Adare Hurdle – Oscar Sam 50’s EW
    Thyestes – Acapella Bourgeois 14’s
    Thyestes – Brahma Bull 12’s
    Thyestes – Spyglass Hill 14’s
Cape Verdi – Stunning Beauty 7-2

Thank god for Oscar Sam today, he really dug me out a hole, and delighted with that 50’s.

Thyestes was disappointing, but I took stakes back in running for Acapella and Spyglass, which I had to, as mentioned a big betting race, so just made sense. Didn’t get near what I wanted for Brahma.

Brahma a massive disappointment, as was Great White Shark, and most of all, Stunning Beauty, really deflated by that run.

An absolute miracle to come out of today ahead, and that bet on Sam, and the lay on Acapella made all the difference, but ahead or not, I’m disappointed tonight.

Back for more Friday. Can’t remember the last time I was so deflated after a winning day, but cracking on with it, and more or less a copy and paste for the Navan races.

The Navan Hurdle is some race. I’ve bet Column of Fire for The Pertemps, and I reckon this is a perfect stepping stone. He’s a big price here on his own though, and it’s very tough not betting him. All part of “the game”. Equally hard to desert is Campeador. Very talented horse, big price, and a lenient mark for top connections.

Thunderosa and Sir Bob were the selections for the 1630, before the meeting was lost, but not made my mind up yet with them, as got another couple of bets elsewhere. (Added Thunderosa now)

In the 1350 at Lingfield I thought The Pretty Way was too big at 4’s, while in the 1545 at Doncaster I was torn between Bullion, and Fernhill Lad, and in the end went with the former.

    1350 Lingfield – The Pretty Way 4’s
    1355 Navan – Battle of Midway 16’s
    1355 Navan – Campeador 28’s EW 5 Pls

Second time this season that Campeador has done the business for me, and he ran a screamer. He always looked held by the winner, but very happy with him.

Second aftertime of the season too, as I added Sir Bob after the Campeador returns, and you could have called him a mile from home.

The others were less good. Main concern was the run of Column of Fire. That wasn’t the run of a horse getting a few pounds off his mark, that was more a run of a horse who’s gubbed. Hopefully he’ll show more next time, and hopefully it’ll be in a Pertemps Qualifier, but it wasn’t good.

Fairly quiet Saturday, and main interest is The Skybet Chase, which I’ve already given my thoughts on in Big Races.

Earlier on the card, I think that Rayna’s World could outrun her odds, and I’ll definitely be betting her.

Fairyhouse is highly unlikely to be on, but if it was I would take Bitview Colin around 33’s. His jumping is highly suspect, but if he stood up, he’s way overpriced.

Cleonte is an old favourite, though barely backed him the last couple of years. He’s not the force he was, but he’s not been as bad as his odds suggest. He’s absolutely plummeted down the weights, and claimer takes a few more off. Definitely worth a go.

1323 Fairyhouse – Bitview Colin EW
    1400 Kempton – Cleonte
    1405 Doncaster – Rayna’s World
    Skybet – Give Me A Copper 25’s EW 5pl
    Skybet – Yorkhill 20’s

Bit of a “nothing” day yesterday.

Just the three, with Bitview and Yorkhill not going.

Couldn’t have started much better, getting Cleonte at three figures, and laying off for a nice profit in running, when he went single figures. As I said, he hadn’t been that bad, and his price was a mystery.

Rayna’s World was a smaller bet, but she was terrible.

Damage was done with Give Me A Copper, who was only real bet of the day, and he made a it a loser of a day, and he was really disappointing.

Looks a quiet Sunday as well. I’ve bet Captain Moirette at 11’s at Catterick, but sure to be off, so main interest is at Naas.

I’ve bet Bachasson for The Stayers up to 140’s, but he’s never been seen by Mullins as a G1 horse, but I’m holding out hope that he wins tomorrow, as he could pay for the race for me if he did it well enough. That’s hardly a given though, as Beacon Edge looks a massive danger, as do a few others.

Two bets are later on the card, with the highly exciting Escaria Ten out, and also Ilikedwayurthinkin.

    1430 Catterick – Captain Moirette 11’s
    1515 Naas – Escaria Ten 7-2
    1545 Naas – Ilikedwayurthinkin 11’s

    1545 Naas
    Ilikedwayurthinkin, Lean Araig
    50p Reverse Forecast
