Love The Ebor Meeting, but wont be as involved as much as usual, as I can’t get the time off work, and it just won’t be the same.

Before that, faced with the prospect of Draycott Place tonight at Sligo, and just couldn’t leave him alone at 10’s. Given an interesting ride here in the spring, and if he’s up there with the pace early doors, then I’d be hopeful. Took 10’s.

Going out on a bit of a limb at Yarmouth, but at 80’s, I took a chance that Gifted Zebedee could sneak second. Glimmers of hope on last two runs at the track, and given a chance by handicapper. Probably nothing in it, but happy to take chance at those odds.

As for York, well the opening race is one of the best of the Meeting. What a line up. Any chance of looking at the race objectively has been ruined by the inclusion of A Momentofmadness and Justanotherbottle. Couldn’t leave them on these terms, on their day as good as anything in the race, and just hope one of them can do it.

Went for Logician in The Gimcrack, and Regal Reality in The Juddmonte.

    A Momentofmadness 25’s
    A Momentofmadness 20’s EW AP & 6 Places
    Justanotherbottle 14’s EW

Regal Reality 25’s and 28’s EW

Delighted with A Momentofmadness yesterday. Got the each way in, and also got a very decent lay in running. Back to his best, and next time, back over a bare five, he should closer again, as that extra distance didn’t do his run justice at all. He’s certainly my biggest bet of the week, so all good Day One.

Logician couldn’t have been more impressive, and though he won’t be my biggest bet of the season, it was still good to nab the 7-2.

Regal Reality had his usual excuse, while Justanotherbottle had no real excuse.

I want to play up those winnings at York today, but opportunities are limited, and I’m only betting two horses, for all it’s a smashing card.

I thought that Blackheath wasn’t given s stellar ride, and he’s certainly worth another try. 22’s to 6 Places was too good to resist in The Clipper Logistics.

In the finale, I can’t understand the price of Agincourt. More than acceptable run last time in Listed Company just behind Billesdon Brook who’s franked the form since. I was happy to take 12’s to 5 Places.

I’ll go to Killarney for a bet away from York, and in the 1840, I’m very keen on Powersbomb. Off the back of a long layoff at Galway last time, I thought he ran a cracker, and only faded late on. Derek O’Connor up, and I think he’s a fair each way prospect at 14’s. He’d be my main fancy of the day.

I can’t say I was happy with the run of Powersbomb, but I couldn’t complain about how it went. As I said, main bet of the day, and got up this morning to see he had halved in price, unreal. He got shorter as the day went on, and easy lay for a profit. Which was just as well, as he folded tamely.

Nice each way from Agincourt, though not a big bet by any means, and the place money was no consolation after the way he got mugged. Fine run though, and rider gave it 100%.

Blackheath no excuses this time, and just not up to it after briefly looking threatening.

Happy to come out of it a few quid ahead, and being more selective is proving sensible.

Lots of interesting Runners Friday, so cautious approach again.

The Nunthorpe looks as strong as ever, and as per big race thread, I’m with El Astronaute and Ornate. Strange, but I really think that they’ll both run a huge race.

Also at York is Abstemious, in The Gimcrack. Really impressed with him last time, and made a point of trying to get on early, but too hectic at work, and missed the 18’s. Ended up with 14’s to 4 Places.

The 1615 isn’t really my kind of race, but I did like the pedigree of. Western Hero, and though not my usual angle, from this trainer/jockey combo, I couldn’t see any harm in a smaller go at 14’s to 4 Places. No doubt the market will let me know my fate beforehand. Fav looks rock solid after today mind you.

That’ll do for York, but plenty going on elsewhere.

The Killarney Card is excellent, and after The Nunthorpe, that Boylesports Handicap is the best race of the day. Fabulous renewal, but other than a sentimental selection in Draycott Place, it’s very very hard to call. Although higher in the weights this year, The Wests Awake looks dangerous. Had this in the bag last year, when falling at the last. Robbie Power on board, and 7’s looks worth risking.

The big hurdle sees the return of Neverushacon, and he must have a live chance here. He’s certainly not a sentimental selection, but he’ll be win only around 8’s. He’s paid his way for me this season already at Galway, so happy to be with him again.

Really looking forward to Beyond The Clouds at Newmarket, and though too short for me right now, if I had any joy at York, I might just chance him. I think his mark looks generous, but I’d definitely want a result at York first of all.

Breden, one of my early fancies for a The Cambridgeshire, is out at Chelmsford, and at a very tempting 20’s. I genuinely want to leave him, but no doubt I’ll side with him at that price if any early joy elsewhere.

Edit. Forgot to add Toronto in The Futurity Stakes at The Curragh, hopefully bigger than 25’s EW

Horrible day, capped off by the loss of Draycott Place, just gutted.

Doesn’t seem much point going over the Runners, all well beaten, but doesn’t really matter to me tonight.

Toronto won’t be one of the stables big guns next year, Ornate and El Astronaute wouldn’t have troubled Battaash with a Furlong start, Abstemious was clearly amiss, and The Wests Awake was brought to a standstill.

I laid Western Hero for a small loss this morning when, as I feared, the dreaded pink appeared, and the way the day went, Neverushacon and Beyond The Clouds being Non Runners, have to go down as good results.

Not in the mood for going over tomorrow Runners, so just a quick mention.

I’m with Raheen House and Barsanti in The Ebor, and I’ll leave the decision to Prince of Arran to the last minute. Raheen a very big ew bet at 8’s to 8 Places, just short of what I had on A Momentofmadness, so hoping he can put a smile back on my face.

Hoping Servalan can make the frame at York, having nabbed the 66’s, and at Killarney, I’ll bet Avalanche to max places each way around 14’s.

I’ll also perm in the Noel Kelly Runners at Cartmel.

    ****, what??
    I missed that (thankfully).
I’m more upset by that than Roaring Lion and Espoir d’Allen for some reason even though they were so young and talented.
Himself and Kylecrue deserved to win a few more races and then be pensioned off together pooching about in the best field at home in the sunshine.

We’ve both lost some of our favourites this year :-(

Really floored me Grass, and I was the same, as bad a day as that was, Draycott hurt the most.

A lot better on Saturday, with Avalanche placing at the 14’s, and that was enough for me to go with Prince of Arran in The Ebor. He was a welcome return at 33’s, as was Barsanti at 25’s, and it put a very nice spin on things, as it cancelled out the losses on Raheen House. Kicking myself a wee bit with Raheen. I did fancy him, but when he hit 4’s, I thought “Nah, he’s no a 4-1 shot”, and I should have laid, but I let it run.

Still a decent enough day though, and two out of three of the Noel Kelly Runners did the business at Cartmel (along with a NR), so the perms were boosted nicely with Avalanche and Barsanti. Weren’t spectacular returns, but I’ll take them.

I’ll do the whole card at Ballinrobe if I can, but one jumping out in the 1910 is Rocky Court. 33’s is too big, and though more on his plate in this year’s renewal, that just looks too big, and if he could nab second, that would be great (Non Runner)

Happy enough with the pair of them tonight, and both bang there at the death. Got 11’s for the pair of them, but market told the story beforehand, and it was Black Label who won at half the price. Had a bit more on Jaime, but I’ll take it, and second return from Black Label this season, so he’ll owe me nothing rest of year, should I go in again.

I’ll certainly play Friday then, but not necessarily because of that win, the card at The Curragh is excellent.

First port of call is Hamilton though, and The Lanark Silver Bell. Beyond The Clouds looked superb last time out, and though this is a lot more competitive, on his Handicap Debut, I like the 7’s, and his opening mark looks fair. My old pal Theglasgowarrior is back out, and he made the frame in this last year, but I’m hoping this is merely a Cesarewitch prep, but I fear he might just do the business here. Archis Affaire is another who looks a big threat, but it’s a tough enough race, and I’d struggle to rule most of them out with any real conviction.

The Irish Cambridgeshire at The Curragh takes centre stage, and of my big hopes of the season, Numerian, is back out. No excuses for the win at Galway, but met traffic problems (again), and this track looks more suitable. I’ll be gutted if he doesn’t make the five, having got the early 12’s. The 9’s still looks big. Just a slight worry that he might be a “nearly” horse, but I’m sticking with him, and had a go here.

Turnberry Isle was outstanding last time at Leapordstown, and he’s impossible not to bet as a saver on that run.

In a season where I’m cutting down on multiple runners in races as much as I can, this is a race where I have to have three. Katyimann is a horse I’ve bet a couple of times before, and having caught the eye last time, I couldn’t believe the 33’s, especially off of this mark, and after his fine effort in this last year.

Elsewhere on the card, I’m going to chance a few outsiders.

Sevenleft, at around 20’s, looks massively overpriced. His last run really impressed me, and over this shorter trip, I’ll go max places each way. I’ll have a few quid on him at that price as I’ll be very disappointed if I don’t get the chance of a good lay in running.

I’m a lot less confident in Rock On Seamie, but I can’t resist the 25’s to 5 Places here. He’s merely got bits and pieces to draw me in, but at that price, worth a go.

Finally, and a long time since I bet him, but although he doesn’t look handicapped to win this, with Lisa O’Neil up, I could see Nimitz sneak a place. Not bet him yet, but as he’s drifting anyway, I’ll hold off as late as possible. If that lot bomb out, I’ll be very careful, but any kind of joy, then I’ll have a go.

    Numerian 12’s EW 5 Places

Numerian really does look like the “nearly” horse, but I was more than happy with that, and third race in a row I’ve made money on him, so can’t really complain too much. As I said, I did have a go on him here, and on a night where little went right, he kept me ahead, as he was a fair old bet.

Turnberry Isle was frustrating, as if I’d known he was going to hit 14’s, he’d have been an each way, but money was already down, and with the amount on Numerian, I couldn’t really justify any more. Katyimann was ran only moderately.

Don’t know if I can call laying off my stake an aftertime, but that’s exactly what I did with Beyond The Clouds. I was in Hamilton working, and I was drenched, it didn’t stop, and I just couldn’t have him on it, so he was a bullet dodged.

Sevenleft was a bitter disappointment, as I had a few quid on him, while Rock On Seamie, who was only a speculative punt, ran no race. I should have left Nimitz, but having got out ahead with Numerian and Beyond The Clouds, I threw a few quid his way, and he wasn’t that bad. Enough for me to consider him again before the seasons out.

Very happy to escape ahead somehow, but lack of wins a bit of a concern, and I’m noticeably having to rely on big each ways, and a lot more tactical laying. Still, despite less than enjoyable nights like tonight, things actually going ok so far this season, and but I would like one stick it’s head out.

This is traditionally one of the weakest Saturdays of the year, so not much doing.

I’ve bet Judicial in The Beverley Bullet, but I swerved him Antepost and missed the 12’s. Four places available, so might as well take him at the 8’s, and hope he drifts.

Only other bet is in the opener at Sandown, and for once, it’s not Justanotherbottle. He was my biggest bet of the season so far in The Stewards Cup, so after his defeat at York, I’ve decided to stay ahead on him. I’ll bet him again this season, but only at a price. I’ve decided to chance Spoof at 25’s to 4 Places. He has his moments, and that’s far too big.

A quiet Saturday then, but I’ll do a few perms at Down Royal on some outsiders, but nothing that I’d be too confident about on here.

Spoof certainly my main hope of the day.

If me not betting Justanotherbottle wasn’t a tip in itself, I don’t know what was. Him winning was inevitable. I’d love to say I changed my mind last minute, but I didn’t. No regrets though, he owes me nothing after Goodwood, and he’d have been a small bet only at that price anyway.

Delighted with Judicial, and I thought it was a fairly comfortable effort in the end. He looks one to follow again, albeit not one to bet as a matter of routine.

I’ll have a few bets tomorrow off the back of some of the winnings, but won’t be going mad, as Judicial wouldn’t quite be my biggest bet of the year.

Even if Judicial hadn’t done it, I’d probably be drawn into Cork with the presence of Neverushacon anyway. His race isn’t priced up yet, but it was the same story last month, the night before his race.

I’ll play it by ear. I’m not betting him under 3’s, but if he did go as low as that, I’ll cover him with some others that I’ve scraped together, and this lot are really scraped together.

1550 – I’ve chanced Romantic Proposal at 5’s. Model of consistency at a mile, and with a furlong shaved off here, that shouldn’t be a hinderance. I’m very wary of the owners having a larger priced runner tucked in there, but hopefully I can get a run for my money.

1620 – I’m torn between both Talk Now and Procurator here. Both have wins to their name this summer, and both not a million miles off of those winning marks, and ground shouldn’t be too much of an issue for them either. I can’t really justify betting them both each way, so I’ve went 22’s to five places Talk Now, and just the win on Procurator at 12’s.

1650 – I think that Neversaynever has a lot of learning to do, but this looks easier than last assignment, and 25’s to 5 places looked worth a go.

I’ll not be throwing fortunes at these, but thought I’d have a go after Saturday, though no real shock if they bomb out.

Funny weekend that, but sums up my season so far……profitable, but unspectacular.

Romantic Proposal won’t be my biggest win of the season, but I won’t have many easier. She won as she liked, and the 11-2 was a bonus.

With Talk Now a Non Runner, I was able to bet Procurator each way, and it nearly paid off, with him just out the frame in 19th. Thought I had cracked it with Neversaynever, going from 25’s to single figures. Every intention to lay off, but the plunge dries up, and though I could have, I decided not to, and let it run.

Happy to cone out of that weekend ahead, and as per, looked to play on tomorrow, but couldn’t find one bet. That’ll hopefully be it till Saturday.

Strange race for me that Ascot one. Not a big betting race, but very messy.

Bet Kaloor 22’s, and Protected Guest 6’s. Bottled it and laid Kaloor before the race, but watched Protected Guest go out to 16’s. Topped up to the each way at those odds, and very happy, so happy with that. Kaloor I was less pleased about, and could have got more in running, but at least out ahead.

Kilbeggan race was less messy. Straight win on Cecil Corbett, thought he’d go close, but never in it. Didn’t even back Kilkishen, and he was 14’s earlier in the day too.

    Not much for me today.

In the big one, The Sprint Cup, with Brando for the win, and Major Jumbo each way. It looks a below par renewal, and I’m fairly confident of a run for my money from the pair of them, and I think Brando will definitely be bang there.

That really should be it, but I’ll continue with Rum Runner, who I’ve followed the last two years. He’s at least 28’s to 5 Places, so I have to bet him.
