Thread for open now up Bob it is
July 15, 2019 at 11:46 #1448622Cheers Darren, put a bet up on Wednesday
July 15, 2019 at 11:55 #1448623Mixed bag on Saturday.
Eeh Bah Gum and Burnt Sugar were very poor, but at least no excuses.
Main bets were Aasheq and Pretty Pollyanna.
No joy with Aasheq, and I wasn’t convinced with the ride, but I’ll catch him again for sure.
Pretty Pollyanna continues the trend of horses slow away from the gate, and that made a huge difference. I think she’d have made the 3. I didn’t cover her to four places, but I did get money back in running, which I was happy with.
Last but not least though, and what can I say about old Aranhill Chief. I did say I’d keep betting him, and I’m glad I did. 66’s each way, and a huge price in the Exchange, which gave me a very decent profit in running, it really did look like he was going to do it. He must go to Galway now. I also bet Draycott Place in this race, and he’ll pop up before the winter surely.
July 16, 2019 at 01:46 #1448660One of my long term Galway Plate fancies, A Toi Phil, is out in the 1950 at Killarney tonight.
Looks the perfect opportunity for him, to get a decent run in, and starting to look very nicely handicapped.
Ball D’Arc is another I’ll be keeping an eye on in the same race.
July 16, 2019 at 23:03 #1448736Very inconclusive tonight with A Toi Phil, and if I’m being honest, probably a bit disappointing.
Still expect to see him in the Entries next week, and I can’t give up on him just yet.
July 18, 2019 at 23:47 #1448808Midlands National at Kilbeggan on Friday, so going with a couple as per big race thread. No repeat myself here.
Pleased to have, more or less, left the midweek action alone so far this season, but with the big race at Kilbeggan, as well as a fair chance of me going to Hamilton, then I had to have a look.
As well as The Midlands National, we have The Scottish Stewards Cup at Hamilton. Had five or six on the radar for this the last few weeks, but as it turns out, no trace of any of them. Aeolus it is then.
Also running on the card, and as I said the other day, back on my radar, is Holmsewood. Unfortunately, I’m betting Orions Bow. I know how this’ll end.
Back at Kilbeggan, I’m very interested in Le Hachette. I’ve not bet many of the Ryan horses this summer, but I can see this one bowling along at the head of affairs round here, and she’s a very backable price.
I’m not betting these at Killarney or Kilbeggan, but all of obvious interest as Galway looms
Gardens of Babylon
Inanovich Gorbatov
Max DynamiteI will be betting these though, and hopefully it’ll be around these current prices, or better….
Le Hachette 15-2
Orions Bow 9’s
Aeolus 25’s
Measureofmydreams 12’s
Na Trachtalai Abu 14’sJuly 20, 2019 at 00:17 #1448891Had a bit of good fortune tonight, but after the bad run with the starting stalls so far this season, I’ll take it.
The job was made easier for Orions Bow with the non runners, and though a Rule 4, was happy to get 10’s. Good bit of luck though, as no way I’d have bet him at the shorter price.
I was very fortunate at Kilbeggan. With Measureofmydreams a non runner, I had more on Na Trachtalai Abu at 16’s, and after some rotten luck for Barra at the last, he held on. Really sorry Jack if you read this, been there many times before, and it’s ****.
Le Hachette and Aeolus were well beaten.
July 20, 2019 at 00:32 #1448893Some nice races Saturday, but no major fancies. Covered most of them in Big Races, so need to go over them here, and I’m working in morning, so no much time.
One horse worthy of note at Market Rasen is Midnight Maestro. He was a long term fancy of mine for The Summer Plate, having won here before. Woefully out of sorts mind, but he’s surely not completely regressed, and maybe worth a risk at 12’s or bigger, as he’s almost looking well handicapped. Almost.

July 20, 2019 at 10:17 #1448936Stopped myself from backing Get Out The Gate although he’s a horse I hold in very high regard (and from one of my favourite yards). Best of luck tomorrow!
July 21, 2019 at 23:59 #1449075Cheers mate, but he was pretty poor, wasn’t he. I’ll leave him alone after that……well at least until The Grand Sefton.
July 22, 2019 at 00:07 #1449076Very low key Saturday yesterday.
Most of the selections ran pretty badly, though thankfully with no real strong fancies about, there wasn’t much damage done. Biggest loser was Brick By Brick, and I will look at him again, but I’ll obviously tread carefully.
Not all doom and gloom though. Van Gogh Du Granit did the business at 20’s in The Plate, and I got a nice profit from Barbill in The Hackwood, so all was not lost. VDG was a bit frustrating, as I’d normally bet a lot more in that race, but with the bets being a lot smaller this year, it was an opprtunity missed.
Still, with those two returns yesterday, and that lift from Na Trachtali Abu on Friday, it was a decent weekend, but if I put up anything on here before Saturday, have a word with me. Galway and Goodwood on the horizon, so I it should make sense to wait.
July 26, 2019 at 01:25 #1449292Almost Midnight ran a blinder at Royal Ascot. Missed the opening 7’s, but managed to nab 6’s, should get a run for my money surely.
Always liked Protected Guest, and had to take a chance at 20’s EW. I’ll definitely top him up if he goes bigger.
1610 Ascot
Almost Midnight, Protected Guest
£1 Reverse Exacta-£43.80
July 29, 2019 at 16:07 #1449718Happy enough with Almost Midnight the other day, and it was good to get some back after that poor showing from Protected Guest, who was the bigger bet of the two.
Fanaar was pretty poor, but Larchmont Lad was a cracking result, as I had topped up to the seven places, and I also got a very decent lay in running, so very happy.
July 29, 2019 at 16:32 #1449719One of the best weeks of the year this, Galway and Goodwood, something for everyone.
On holiday, so with the potential mix of betting and alcohol, I’m going to be as careful as possible.
Galway kicks off tonight, but I’ll just be watching most of them.
No bet in the opener, and away from the favourite I can see big runs from Morosini and City Ballerina. Long term though, the one I’m most interested in is Winner Takes Itall. He looks a very interesting horse for the season ahead.
I’ve taken a chance on Cats For Cash in the 1755. 18’s to 5 Places is decent looking, and although he’s not achieved that much, in this company I struggle to see him out the five.
The 1940 is a belter, and despite the fact that I like Mr Adjudicator as a dark horse for The Champion Hurdle, I’m siding with Neverushacon. Always been a fan, and he’s from top yard, with a win, albeit in a Charity Race, under his belt. 20’s to 5 Places was mad.
It’s a hot race though, and the likes of Mr Everest, Baba Boom, Dalton Highway, and Great White Shark, to name but four, make this some race.

July 29, 2019 at 17:47 #1449737On holiday, so with the potential mix of betting and alcohol
It’s a fun mix as long as you keep the stakes tiny for the races you haven’t really looked at!
Good luck with the geegees and enjoy the holiday
July 29, 2019 at 19:49 #1449746Good shout with Neverushacon!
July 29, 2019 at 19:55 #1449747He rarely lets you down!
