Thanks Chris, and Brixton, that was a good day.
Managed to watch Pete on my phone at work, and got some strange looks at work, can’t believe the 25’s, unreal. Quouthquan placing in the next was a real bonus too.
Just in from work just now, and even knowing the result beforehand, I still can’t believe Yanmare won that, and I owe Jamie Bargary a pint for that ride, one of the rides of the season for sure.
December 8, 2017 at 18:17 #1331002Chancing my luck a bit, but at 25’s, I have to take a chance on the all weather tonight at Dundalk. Political Policy looks ominous in the market, at a widely available 25’s, but I’ll put a few quid each way at those odds.
1930 Dundalk
Political Policy, Laid Back Luke
50p Reverse Exacta-£215.15
December 8, 2017 at 21:16 #1331035bloody hell, hard lines – done a head!
December 8, 2017 at 22:17 #1331046Cheers Brixton, Aaaw man, I thought he had done it, had a few quid on, and I was roaring him home. I thought he was going to hold on. Still happy with the place money though, and it really topped off a smashing day.
December 8, 2017 at 22:48 #1331053Sensational stuff VTC… I shall have to start keeping a beadier eye on your thread!
(I had a good day myself, but only cos I had the day off, and this morning before I went about my business I for the first time in ages backed the Hugh Taylor tips – normally busy at work so can never get the price – he tipped up two which won at 25/1 and 10/1! Made all the sweeter as I had an account promo-restricted after a £600 odd quid win on the golf the other week – but seemingly not stake restricted, and that’s where I put them on… prob be down to £2 stakes in the morning but good riddance
)December 8, 2017 at 23:01 #1331056Thanks Brixton, appreciate that.
Brilliant stuff with the wins today, especially the 25’s shot. I don’t follow any tipster, but he does do very well Taylor from what I see. Nothing worse than liking one Ante-Post, not getting the money down, and see him tip it…………cue the price evaporating.
December 8, 2017 at 23:09 #1331060Oh he’s incredible, best in the business from what I know, but you just can’t get the prices unless you can sit there daily mashing the refresh key! I don’t have that luxury but I’ll back them now and then on the weekends for example. I try and work out some of my own bets (mainly higher class racing where I “know” the horses) and I have to say, enjoy reading and following in some of the serious form-studiers here… I wish I had more time to dedicate to it but even if I did I suspect I wouldn’t hit such heady heights!
(if San Benedeto gets up tomorrow discard the last para – I’ve got £2 on at 470/1 lol)
December 8, 2017 at 23:21 #1331063Oh I agree with that, “knowing” the horses makes a massive difference, and certainly helps.
I’m really happy with a few quid at 10’s on Fox Norton for tomorrow, but Wow, 470’s, my kind of Exchange Price that, and I would gladly sacrifice mine, to see that one come in.
Everything crossed here, and best of luck.
December 8, 2017 at 23:21 #1331064Where does this Taylor guy do his tipping?
December 8, 2017 at 23:30 #1331067He tips on Attheraces website Moe, but don’t know if that’s where his tips appear first.
December 8, 2017 at 23:38 #1331068Where does this Taylor guy do his tipping?
http://www.attheraces.com/tips/atr-tipsters/hugh-taylor
he sends out a tweet just before each tip – https://twitter.com/HughRacing?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor
but the prices go in literally seconds! He is some judge though, the 25/1 shot today was friendless in the market and could be backed on the exchange just before the off for roughly what he tipped it at… and it romped home!
Back them daily and your account will be restricted in no time though as he makes huge profit, year in, year out
December 8, 2017 at 23:49 #1331069Wow, 470’s, my kind of Exchange Price that, and I would gladly sacrifice mine, to see that one come in.
cheers – very magnanimous of you. I can’t see him doing it, appears well held by Politilogue never mind Fox Norton – a shame he’s not an out-and-out front-runner or there would be a very decent trade opportunity. I’ll hold fire and maybe stick a speculative lay on to see if it matches in-play perhaps…
December 8, 2017 at 23:50 #1331070Thanks VtC. Think were going to be well cold on Sunday at Kelso!
December 9, 2017 at 00:26 #1331078Moe, it’s bloody freezing up here today, wrap up well.
December 9, 2017 at 00:28 #1331079@BrixtonBoy
I hope that lay comes in, at the very least for you.December 9, 2017 at 00:49 #1331088Well today was smashing, and crucially, with a big weekend coming up, it’ll keep me ahead whatever happens. I love it when the pressure is off like that, and considering the number of horses getting bet tomorrow, it helps a lot. The Becher is a big betting race for me, and though a lot depends on Westerner Point placing tomorrow to give me a profit, I don’t have to worry about it so much now, as I’m well ahead after today, and I’ll enjoy the race a lot more tomorrow.
Quick look back at today. Obviously just one of those days where everything goes right, and a real fillip after last Sunday. I’ve always had a soft spot for Pete The Feat. Bet him several times over the years, and he made my Grand National Book a few years back. He was coming down nicely in price in that, until his jumping went to pot. I missed him when he won The Veterans at Sandown last term, but I wasn’t passing up that price. I had bet him at 16’s and 18’s, so to get 25’s was amazing. The best thing about it is that it never seemed in doubt, and the old boy ran them ragged, what a horse. If Pete was effortless, and you really could call him the winner the whole way round………..unlike Yanmare. How the bloody hell did he win that???? Getting pushed and shoved the whole way, and if I hadn’t known the result before I watched it, I would have switched off at halfway. To be honest, I would have switched off 2 from home. An unbelievable performance, and I’ve watched it a couple of times back now, and still expect him to get beat. He was a fair old bet today, and was the best ride I’ve seen since Lisa O’Neil on Tiger Roll.
The 2 placed horse were a real bonus as well. I don’t think Quouthquan is one to follow religiously, but when conditions are right, he should pay his way again, while Political Policy was a decent sized bet. I would have said that was the cherry on top, but that award goes to………my Welsh National Book, which went green today. I bet Beware The Bear to lay off, and have done it comfortably. Nicely ahead now, and I’ll keep it that way for sure. Great to be ahead this far out, and though I’ll be careful, I may just add more in the next fortnight.
On to Saturday, and I’ll have eyes everywhere.
The Becher is the perfect place to start off, as it’s the big race of the weekend, and I’ve had a few pounds on. Hasn’t went entirely to plan, with Gas Line Boy & Three Faces West not going. Gas Line, although a decent bet, wasn’t as much as 3 Faces, as he was doubly booked. Dare to Endeavour & Regal Encore were smaller hits, and I’m left with Westerner Boy. Really happy with my big prices, and if he places, I’ll recover the majority of my stakes. I could claw some back by laying, and that was going to be the plan before today’s events, but I’m just going to let it ride now. You’ll hear me if he wins.
In the the other race over the National Fences, I’m very pleased to see my early selection, Imjoeking make it, while my second string Rathlin Rose also makes it. I managed to steal some 8’s on Gas Line Boy, and I’ve bet him to win his Becher stake back (and will recover a few quid on this race as well), while Ultragold would be a welcome win for my National “Book”. Wouldn’t complain with either of the latter 2, but really, if I’m honest, I’ll be focussed on Imjoeking, and Rathlin Rose.
Also at Aintree, in the opener, Midnight Shadow was too big at 7-2, and though I’m careful with putting my “Midnights” up on this thread, never mind one as short as that, I’ve bet him to win stake money for later, and not a big bet at all. It’s very rare I mention horses that I’m planning to add to my Gold Cup “Book”, too early in the day, but I was happy to mention Cloudy Dream as a Gold Cup horse of mine in The Gold Cup thread, as I had already got the big odds I wanted on him. I’m hoping his inclusion in The Many Clouds chase goes well, and if his stamina holds, which I suspect it will, then I have should have a good trade there. The same applies to Alpha Des Obeaux in the same race, and though I’m betting neither of them tomorrow, and I hope one of them, or even both, can earmark themselves for The Gold Cup.
At Sandown, couple of really interesting races as well, and I really like the look of Evening Hush in The Handicap Hurdle. 33’s win, and 25’s ew 4 Places looks decent to me. Mitchell Bastyan is decent for his claim, and she has form which could make that price look plain daft. In The London National, I just have to be with Benbens. He got me some nice place money at a big price in The Bet365 Gold Cup, and though he let me down a few weeks back at Aintree, I think he could bounce back tomorrow, and he’s another getting a handy few pounds off his back. I’ll have a few quid on that pair for sure, and I’ll add Houblon Des Obeaux & The Young Master as well for smaller stakes in that race, as would be hard to take if they did the business, and both are at nice odds. I don’t usually pay too much notice to the G1 2 Mile scene, but happy enough with my Ante-Post 10’s EW on Fox Norton, and though not the biggest bet ever for me, got to be happy with those odds (if BrixtonBoy can’t land it)
At Chepstow, Bob Ford is a big fancy in The Welsh National trial, loads in his favour tomorrow, and I’ll be with him for sure, but the real dark horse could be Streets of Promise, and I’ll definitely be with her EW around 20’s.
Finally, off to Navan. For the second time tonight, I’m risking a “Midnight” on here. Midnight Escape looks wrong at the prices, and could be an each way bet to nothing, but with Davy Russell in the plate, I’ll go win only at around 8’s. The Foxrock is a cracker, and although the WPM pair scare me, I’ll have a few quid on Couer Joyeux, who won well last time, and I can see him landing this, or at least going close, en route to The Paddy Power at Cheltenham.
A busy busy Saturday then, but money in the bank, and looks a day to enjoy, win or lose. A good few of them will be lower stakes, but any joy, and I’ll top up.
December 9, 2017 at 02:57 #1331108Great stuff, nice to enjoy the racing knowing you’re well ahead before the weekend even starts
