All her work has suggested she neeeds further.

Originally she was worked over sprint trips but just couldn’t go the pace hence her going over further.

Hopefully we’ll know more after her next run.

The slow break from the stalls wasn’t a great surprise.

I don’t think she handled the track and the ground was very quick which probably didn’t suit either.

She was very green so hopefully she’ll improve for the experience, clearly she needs to.

We do believe there is ability there,it’s just a question of coaxing it out of her on the racecourse.

A very honest assessment. I watched the re-run on RUK and she never seemed entirely at ease, particularly at the start of the home turn, where to this pair of untrained eyes she looked a bit unbalanced.

If that would suggest that she’d be better off without a bend to traverse in the short term, and given John’s comparatively better exploits on the all-weather, I guess my plan of action hereafter would be to enter Wendy in any sprint you can over Southwell’s straight 5f (to the exclusion of all else until you’re fortunate enough to get a run.

Notwithstanding that wouldn’t constitute the step up in trip she needs, would that come anywhere close to your own thinking at present?

Keep it quiet Jeremy but the words ‘Cartmel’ and ‘hurdles’ were mentioned after the race.

In all seriousness though there is a chance that if she can’t cut it on the flat we will give her a spin over hurdles.

As I said all her work has suggested that she won’t be a sprinter despite her breeding suggesting otherwise so I doubt she will be dropped in trip at any stage.

Thanks for your feedback guys (and gals),it’s good to see there are people out there showing an interest and I will endeavour to put up a couple of piccies in due course.

Noted. Wonder what price I could get on her already for the August 2009 renewal of the Trans Pennine Express Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle (Class 4, 2m1.5f)… 8)

Without wishing to be pessimistic, not being able to go the pace doesn’t automatically mean she needs further – she might just be slow :(

It’s only her first run, we mustn’t be too down. She’ll learn from it hopefully whatever she goes for next. Will she be out again soon?

    ASAP.
I think there may be a race at Ripon in a couple of weeks but at this stage I’m not sure.
Any rain will help a bit as we don’t really want to run her on ground as quick as it was at Warwick on Thursday.

If it makes you feel any better the first horse that I ever owned "Bookiesindexdotcom" was tailed off last in its first race which was also at Warwick.

Although she never won a race she wasn’t that bad and I had lots of fun with her.

I word of warning though Jockeys always say you’ll win a race with them, although Martin Dwyer once rode a horse for me, and after acouple of minutes of excuses and she’ll do better etc. He thought again and just came out and said "Actually to be honest she just isn’t very good!" which was refreshingly honest.

The only way is up, as they say!

I can’t believe how she’s come on from those early pics. She looks lovely now :-)

Those are really nice photos of Wendy – thanks so much for sharing them with us – she looks a beauty ! :D

She can only improve on that first run and I am sure things will be better next time out. Keeping my fingers crossed here !

To my completely amateur eye she looks a bit light to be a sprinter. Her immediate family does dampen hopes of staying somewhat but the sire line offers hope through the grand sire.. I reckon she’ll get a bit further.

I hope she leaves her first run behind folks.

No, she’s got size about her Nick.

If anything she looks to have a bit too much scope. She looks more like a 2 mile chaser in the making than she does a sprinter and is still growing.

Wariwck on that ground most definitely would not have suited her nor would the trip really

She doesnt move like a sprinter, particularly in the walk

She will need a trip of 1m+ at the very least to be able to win a race and the only question to be answered is whether she’ll stay that far.

On breeding, nothing out of her dams side was really effective over 1m (although there is stamina further back going up to 1m4f) and Arkadian Hero has yet to sire a winner beyond 6f.

On paper we might be struggling but breeding and genetics are a funny thing and she really does look the part so here’s hoping!

Why did she run there then?

She’d been fit and ready to go DJ for a couple of weeks and it was time to get her on the racetrack

We know that she was going to be green, particularly form the stalls, so there was never any real possibility of her being competetive at the business end (although you always hope of course).

The ground was very quick at Warwick as the expected rain never arrived. There was consideration as to pulling her out (4 withdrew on the day of the race).

It was decided that she had to start somewhere though and she may as well have a go even though we were aware conditions most likely wouldnt suit.

Warwick is an undulating track and quite sharp. It doesnt always suit the bigger galloping types. Some horses are fine but she didnt look totally comfortable.

This was really just a learning experience. Her next outing will ideally be over 1m2f (ish) on easier ground on a more galloping track an that should give us more of an idea on how much ability she’s got

    Ideally
