That lasted long…not even entered. Lovely, very strange.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 26, 2020 at 14:21 #1480909I was never convinced in Carefully Selected on half decent ground been saying for a while. Today was further evidence. Now that the race is less of a stamina test I’ve convinced myself that a sound Champagne Classic will coast home.
January 26, 2020 at 14:48 #1480914The mistakes are when he leads, so hopefully he’ll be dropped in at Cheltenham. Don’t know why Townend keeps making tha same mistake.
January 26, 2020 at 14:52 #1480915A fair few firms have cut champagne classic and lengthened carefully selected
Not surprising as he walked through that fence, make a mistake like that against better opposition and its race ove
January 26, 2020 at 15:02 #1480916Don’t think it made any difference today that he led as he was lobbing along his own pace without being pressured. At Cheltenham his jumping will get found out whatever the tactics unless he sorts it out.
January 26, 2020 at 15:17 #1480917Well I’ve also seen horses jump poorly and still win at Cheltenham. Tiger Roll hit a few fences in his renewal.
I think it’s between the two and I think this lad will improve if given a lead
They’ve raced wide at Naas so that’s a very stiff 3 miles he’s run.
January 26, 2020 at 15:57 #1480922Don’t think it made any difference today that he led as he was lobbing along his own pace without being pressured.
That’s exactly the point, he’s probably losing concentration lobbing along…..
He made one mistake the rest he was fine. Nothing flashy but fine.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 26, 2020 at 22:59 #1480956With that shock absence of Early Doors, I’m even happier to have taken the early profit on Champagne Classic.
I’m still green with CC, but the plan was always to to top up once NRNB. Price not quite what I’m looking for on that front, so I’ll hold off for now.
The big one for me in the entries is Galvin. He’s a long term fancy of mine for this in the same vein as Champagne Classic. I’ll have as big a bet on him as I did on CC, once there is more NRNB, but until then, I’ll start chipping away at that 33’s (edit took 44’s)
Galvin 44’s
January 27, 2020 at 10:16 #1480984I really like Carefully Selected but I’d be against him here. 3 runs over fences is not usually the profile for the winner of this. You usually need more experience; he’s also quite short..
January 27, 2020 at 23:29 #1481059Bobby not sure if you’re aware or not mate but Galvin hasn’t qualified for this race yet.
Noticed as his entry this weekend is over 2m 5F in a handicap.
January 27, 2020 at 23:45 #1481061Yeah, I’d clocked that Kev, been trying to second guess him all season. I’m hoping he doesn’t run on Sunday, and he’s held back for something else. If he does run Sunday, I’m assuming it’ll be Close Bros for him. I’d actually already bet him for that race, then decided to cash out.
Already in a decent position on this race thanks to Champagne Classic, so happy to risk a few quid, as it’s one of my three big races of the week betting wise.
Thanks for the heads up though mate, appreciated.
January 28, 2020 at 15:51 #1481120Lord Du Mesnil looks a crazy price at 33s.
January 28, 2020 at 15:56 #1481121Agree Mark, more to come from him I reckon
March 3, 2020 at 00:50 #1484464Strange situation for me here, as this is one of my big three betting races.
Already well ahead on it thanks to Champagne Classic. He was my 4th biggest Antepost bet ever, so one of my better decisions to take the money and run.
Main problem I have now is finding a new selection. It was going to be Copperhead, but he looks RSA bound. Can’t possibly bet one now, with Final Decs a few days away, but this is the current shortlist….
At The Acorn
Forza Milan
Dallas Des Pictons
Christmas In AprilAll nice prices, but might as well wait now, particularly so I can gauge jockey bookings.
March 3, 2020 at 09:13 #1484479As a Copperhead NRNB taker i’ve had to re-assess after yesterdays confirmation.
Forza Milan 16/1 NRNB is the bet. Can see him going off half that next week especially with the likeliness of a top Irish jock on-board.
Half brother to One For Arthur, he should love the trip and being by Milan the ground turning nicer should be in his favour also. He was fragile for Jonjo but they loved him before he got badly injured in the Pertemps.March 3, 2020 at 09:57 #1484481Took some 16s on him too Kev as a saver. Agree with all of that, and it’s a terrible renewal.
I can’t see Carefully Selected being beaten as long as he stays up, and to be fair to him, he’s shown enough to stay up when making mistakes. I’ve a 12s ticket, but not an overly big one. I mean he made a pretty bad mistake last time, beat Forza still 4Ls giving him 6?
He’s everybit a grade 1 horse and i’d be surprised if there’s anything else in the race better than a handicapper.
