Hi Wallace, I’ve no intention of trying to compete with Hugh, although I did find a 50/1 (advised, 33/1 sp) winner at Cheltenham for the battle of the booth!
I’m not in the tipping game but happy to take a view and say why.April 7, 2010 at 13:28 #288272As long as you put Chapman in his place with 50/1 selections .
Keep a eye on the blog. Best of luck
April 7, 2010 at 15:00 #288290Blog, a reflection of yourself Sean? Smooth and sophisticated with plenty of promise!
April 7, 2010 at 15:02 #288292Nice, well presented site
Your prose has the dulcet quality of your tones so I’ll be in for a gander from time to time
How about some thoughts on Racing For Change and ‘the future of racing’ ?
April 8, 2010 at 07:26 #288444Some kind comments there and much appreciated.
I’ll certainly be looking to get into Racing for Change as a topic and it’s on the list!

Yes indeed – a vivid, informative and expertly written piece on Nigel Twiston-Davies. Thanks to Mr Boyce, and I look forward to reading more on his site.
Sean Boyce is one of racing broadcasting’s great "sleepers". He may not shout as loudly or as crudely as certain of his colleagues; but his quiet, shrewd and even-handed analysis of events has a way of carrying much more authority than they can muster, and his reputation is on the rise accordingly. Good work!
April 8, 2010 at 08:54 #288456Don’t be a stranger up here, Sean. I would have said hello but you looked busy and it would have been like walking into a Halifax branch and pestering Howard when he was discussing mortgages with punters and that.

The blog is great and I’ll read it regularly. Btw, I laughed out loud at NTD’s comments about Racing Post trainer tours. You can’t beat honesty.
Please do a good piece on R4C. Ta!
April 19, 2010 at 13:43 #291171Finally started putting together the piece on my trip to Southwell. Plenty of material so I’ve divided it into three parts and the first part is online now with the next two installments to go up over the next couple of days. Enjoy!
BoycieApril 19, 2010 at 14:26 #291176Very enjoyable Sean, have bookmarked you for a regular visit- really enjoyed the odds-compiler article.

Thanks
Surprised to read that the bookmakers were linking up with Betdaq rather than Betfair
Is this the case generally on-course now?
Haven’t been racing much at all over the last year or so, but when I was a semi-regular it seemed all Betfair
All for them using Betdaq incidentally as it’s what I use, so the increase in liquidity and competitiveness is welcome
April 19, 2010 at 15:59 #291184Seems to be majority Betdaq. Majority seem to use RDT and that links into Betdaq I think. I would imagine the on course business link is a major part of Betdaq’s business and they’ve been busy and well represented on racecourses since they launched. I would imagine many firms have access to both one way of the other though.
April 19, 2010 at 18:31 #291208Good article on Peter Michael, Sean.
Some people seem to think the art of odds-compiling is dead in the exchange era, but quite the opposite is true really.
Having a solid line of prices that hasn’t been influenced by the buttons traded early on the exchanges is of real value – and Peter Michael is one of the few people capable of providing that on a large number of races every day.
April 19, 2010 at 20:17 #291232A good article indeed
Your own tissue tweaked by gut feeling, yep
‘There’s nothing like the feeling. When you’ve worked a race out without any help from outside, the feeling is fantastic. If you can just dig out one on the Friday for the Saturday for a big race and get it right the feeling is great. And that’s the buzz for me. I just love the buzz of it all.’
…well said Mr Michael, though the buzz is the same wherever and whenever
Nice work Mr Boyce; the blog’s been a jolly good read thus far
April 19, 2010 at 21:12 #291244Thoroughly enjoyed that article. Excellent stuff and a real behind-the-scenes eye-opener.
April 19, 2010 at 21:44 #291254Excellent work Sean,i hope you can add further Ante-Post suggestions throughout the year,i admire your Foresight in thinking Sizing Europe could be a Gold Cup horse, but i see you have gone for Somersby,he certainly has plenty scope for improvement and 16/1 looks generous.Imperial Commander would still be on my shortlist,he maybe only 6/1 but is bound to go out to 10"s at some point next season!I have to say that my Number 1 Gold Cup horse is Weapons Amnesty and i keep taking the 10"s on the machine.Ladbrokes only go 6/1 about him!GET ON!
April 20, 2010 at 10:31 #291307Thanks so much for all of the feedback guys, really very much appreciated. It’s quite a labour of love to get these pieces done and online. I wanted to write about stuff that I found interesting and it means a lot to know that some people are enjoying them and getting something out of them. Second part of the Southwell piece is up tdoay, third and final part tomorrow.
Cheers all,
BoycieApril 20, 2010 at 11:26 #291311Both articles are thoroughly enjoyable and informative reading. Looking forward to reading the final part tomorrow.
