:good: Nice one with Secret Protector 6/4 Clints :good:
Come back and do it all again next Thursday and hope you got to watch those races.
Even though I backed Zakouski have a real soft spot for Lord Glitters who was, as usual, flying at the finish. :rose: Jac

Thanks Jac and well played with all your winners. Seems like youve had a belting week on the betting front!

I had mentioned this on the old threads that I refrenced a few pages back but I cannot stress enough how good Meydan is and that its well worth a visit.

I know our mate Covid is in the way right now but once things settle its an absolute dream trip. I dragged my wife along in 2015 (Prince Bishop), 2016 (California Chrome) and 2017 (Arrogate) and the whole day is just phenomenal. Usually its a 9 race card (which I am sure most know) and they have a massive show inbetween, as well as a concert afterwards. From memory we had Kylie, Janet Jackson and Sia.

Tickets are relatively reasonable (may of course changed) and its no different to Ascot. You can drink plenty (if thats your bag), still place bets on your phone and just have a smashing time.

On the Thursday before the DWC card (again date may have changed), there is a Breakfast With The Stars event (similar to Epsom) where you can watch the horses do track work, take photos with all the trophies (which are HUGE!!!), have an amazing buffet breakfast, listen to all the jockeys, trainers, tipsters and pundits about their horses. Again its very reasonable and back in 2017 (only year we attended BWTS) i had photos taken with Will Buick, Javier Castellano, Mikey Smith, Charlie Appleby, Saaed Bin Suroor, Bob Baffert, Rishi Persad, Nick Luck etc. Its just a top class day and sets up the meeting a few days later.

As i say, Covid has f’d everything up but if you ever get a chance it is well worth attending.

One final piece, just in case I havent whet the appetite enough, they also host a track and stable visit day. It says what it is on the tin but you get to be by the finish line, parade ring, weighing room, meet horses (I think the ones I saw were Mike De Kock’s from memory) but again an absolute must for any race fan.

Obviously all added together would be relatively expensive but if you ever get the opportunity i cannot rave enough.

From my own personal experience, especially with the BWTS event, you are treated like royalty and was one of the best experiences I have ever done and what sort of person would I be if I didnt pass that info on?

Sorry for the long message on a Friday morning.

Have a good day all and happy punting (ps Warwick and Newbury meetings are off!).

    COUSIN HARRY each way
    Dundalk 1630
    67F680-FP853832428-49
Among those figures are some very good hurdles places to some good horses including Sullain hill. Wait here, blackjack boy, Quarry lil,
I like horses over these distances with good jumps form.
His fourth behind Willie Mullin’s Swift verdict here reads well in the context that Seamie Heffenan was on board that day, the time was just a second below standard. He came back again and finished 9th with Heffenan on board again, so tonight’s reappearance is the third run.
Tonight’s favourites are priced up on the basis of placing in a race run much slower, 6 seconds below standard in fact.
I don’t think this horse is an 80/1 shot.
Sam Ewing takes over with a seven pound claim. With that claim he is the best pound for pound jockey here. So Cousin Harry has the potential to better his fourth place this time. Battle of Benbaun has a similar profile from national hunt. The spread of weights for this race is fairly low from top to bottom.
The trends from this race in recent years favours a high stall with winners coming from 14, 9,4,6, 11. Sam rides from stall 12.
Of course he might just be here for a run out around dundalk to keep fit but runing fourth to a hard pressed Mullins horse trying again following a recent upset seems a good effort to me.

Wow Clints !!! That sounds an incredible experience. The BWTS sounds good
enough on it’s own to make it all worthwhile. That’s some list of top
notchers that you will have in your photo album, you must have a few of
those up on your wall. The track and stable tour is definitely one that
you just wouldn’t want to miss, what an opportunity that would be. Thanks
for sharing a never to be forgotten experience :good:

:bye: Thanks for sharing that wonderful experience with us Clints and visiting Meydan for the Dubai World Cup Meeting is very much on my agenda and especially the Stable Tour.

You’ve set me off now because…
back in March 2019 for a special birthday we went to Dubai for 7 days and stayed at the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on The Palm. Apart from relaxing on the beach and enjoying the fabulous food and yes as you said being treated like VIP’s we did the whole tourist thing the climax of which was travelling to the very top of the Burj Khalifa which had recently had 3 extra floors added and an outside viewing platform built..We bought tickets to go to the 163rd floor, it only took 30 seconds in the lift and the views were amazing. We could stay up there for 2 hours max with free soft drinks, coffee and buffet available.

On the last day of our holiday I had persuaded my husband to book our last night at The Meydan Hotel and yes it was on a Thursday but not part of the Festival as they were getting ready to host Super Saturday when we were there and the racing we saw all took place on the dirt track which is in the middle of the course.
I did manage to find one winner trained by course specialist Doug Watson

Really enjoyed the atmosphere of the course and afterwards we had dinner on our balcony looking over the floodlit racecourse as folk went home.

I did get a feel of what racing would be like on World Cup night as the hotel was very modern with open view lifts and lovely patio areas for eating outside and lots of beautiful statues of horses and equine artwork.

Waking up at the Meydan Hotel was lovely as you could go out on the balcony and see some of the horses doing early morning gallops around the course which was meticulously cared for both the dirt course and turf with water sprinklers all around the turf course it was so green you could have been at Ascot or Newmarket but for the weather.

My husband is not a great fan of racing and I know that he gave up his last day on the beach for me to experience Meydan races and I’m so glad that I did as now I can watch the horses gallop past the Hotel and know what it’s like inside.

We will hopefully be going back to Dubai again once this Covid rubbish is out of the way and even if I don’t get to the World Cup I will try to arrange a day at the Al Quoz stables. :good:

Hope you and your wife get to go back there again in 2022 and come back here and tell us all about it..I really do get why you love the place so much and thanks for sharing that Clints it brought back some happy memories..Jac :rose:

Sorry that went on a bit :mail:

Really interesting Handicap at Meydan this afternoon…

    3.15 .. AL MAYSAN .. 2/1 ..WIN
Path Of Thunder.. 33/1 Each Way (4 places)

    Reverse Forecast

Path Of Thunder is my Lincoln Handicap Ante Post but guess he might stay on in sunny Meydan for the Festival and who could blame him.. :rose:

Not much racing today so good luck if you have a bet.

    1.25 Lingfield
An interesting little contest and I have gone for..
    MAHALE .. 6/1 EW (2 places)
    Over the Ryan Moore ridden..
    Mummy Bear.

Mahale was so impressive last time out over 5 furlongs with herself and the winner slipping the rest of the field..love to see that. She just got pegged back in the final stages.
This time she has to prove she can go the extra distance but it is in her pedigree to do so..Not much of her but she’s a little warrior.
    Jac

    Reverse Forecast
    Mahale
    Mummy Bear

    Off soon….

Great stories of your trips to Dubai & Meydan Clints & Jac – Thanks for sharing. :good: I’d certainly like to make that trip one day. No stories to rival those from me – unless you count several days at the old Folkstone racecourse in the 70’s lol

Made my swaps in the TTF contest, we’ll see how they work out. Already one down in my pick 3 horses, with two to go later at Lingfield.

I see Mahale got 2nd for you Jac, better than nothing.

Very, very cold and snowy here. A good day to hibernate!

Good Luck with your bets everyone

Bit late getting myself in gear today although I got my competitions
    on earlier this morning.

I managed to get a bet on Apex King 6/1, my nap, in
the 2.35 at Lingfield. The favourite Crackiling won with Ryan Moore,
and no harm to Luke Morris but he’s not the guy I’d pick in a tight
finish. If the jockeys had been swapped I’d pretty much bet Apex King
    would have won.

    3.10 Lingfield Aztec Dreams 28/1 Betfred E/W

Ran a decent race last time out considering he was out for the best
part of 18 months. I think he’s way overpriced.

    3.25 Naas O’Connell Street 40/1 4 places Betfred

He ran a couple of reasonably encouraging races for Nicky Henderson
before going to Elliot. Ran well enough for Elliot at Limerick having
been off for a year, but he did run a shocker next time out at Wexford.
He should be better than that and the 40/1 is just too big to ignore.

I thought Aztec Dreams might win when they turned in, only to lose 3
places (5th) in the last 50 yards

    Result Meydan 3.15

    Eastern World 20/1
    Gabr 50/1
    Path Of Thunder 8/1

1 2 3 for Godolphin and some possble pointers to the Festival here.
Al Maysan very disappointing..up there with every chance and dropped away tamely as the others gained pace.

Very pleased with my 33/1 about Path Of Thunder who ran a blinder just touched off by Gabr :yahoo:

Just 2 left in my pick 3 Saturday horses at Wolverhampton tonight so fingers crossed for
    Cityzen Serg and
    Royal Birth (Nap)

Best of luck with O’Connell Street at Naas Graham.

Jac you’re becoming the queen of these big priced gambles. What
a HUGE price you got on Path Of Thunder, 33/1 for one that went
off at 8/1, that’s a terrific place :yahoo:

You’ll be getting noticed in the bookies when you’re beating the
    SP’s by country mile

I’ll need to wait until the reply is available on the Racingpost to
review the 3.25 at Naas. Something doesn’t add up here. It was obvious
from the off that O’Connell Street wasn’t there to get involved. He
stayed right out the back, so far back at times that the camera wasn’t
picking him up. I reckon before he turned in he must have been 40 or so
lengths behind the leader. He runs on through them, and although he
finishes up 10th, he’s only just over 10 lengths behing the winner. That’s
a helluva lot of ground to make up when you’re not trying. He’s definitely
worth the watch for a decent big handicap. I’ll watch the race again just
in case I’ve got it wrong, but I’m pretty sure it is as I thought

Thanks Graham that was a dream of a price for Path Of Thunder, Ive always liked him although couldn’t believe he went off 8/1 some serious money went down there. I’m really hoping he comes back to the UK for The Lincoln. :good:

Sounds like O’Connell Street connections playing a strange hand with the horse doing his best work at the end of the race..look forward to your summary Graham.. :good:

I’ve given the 3.25 at Naas a couple of views now. When they turn in
with 3f and 2 fences to go O’Connell Street had 2 horses behind him and
a good 25-30 lengths behind. At the 2f marker and jumping the 2nd last,
he still only has 2 horses behind. I can see that he gives him a couple
of cracks on the run to the last and although the camera then concentrates
on the those fighting out the finish, you then see him running strongly
past the post. My take on it is that there was no attempt to keep him with
the main body and he had to give him a couple of cracks otherwise it would
have been obvious that no attempt was ever made. He might have finished 10th,
but he made more ground than all 9 in front of him in the last furlong.

The RP’s review of it states In rear, not fluent 1st, some headway
when jumped slightly left before 2 out, ridden towards rear of midfield and
no impression after 2 out, mistake last, kept on run-in (op 33/1 tchd 25/1)

No mention of “tenderly ridden” or anything of that ilk. He’s going into
my notebook. With minimal effort during the race there is no doubt he would
have finished a good bit closer than the 10L he did.

That was one of the shorter races he had run in Graham..maybe an extra half mile next time will do the trick.
Definitely one to keep on the Tracker.
