Where were you before the race Himself ? We all would have loved to know how he was easily the best horse in the field…. Blow hard alert…Call it as it is pal…
November 7, 2017 at 13:08 #1325599Love lttle clique sites like this…Kiss ups abound…
November 7, 2017 at 13:24 #1325604Not just single figures, raymo but something like 2,3,4 and 5….
November 7, 2017 at 13:47 #1325609As an Aussie glad to see Joseph train the winner. He copped a bagging on here as a rider, to my eye he was as good as you had there extremely underrated, good on you mate, enhoy it and have a drink and enjoy the night, xo
November 7, 2017 at 13:52 #1325610Well done those who backed the winner. I know this is sour grapes on my part but, now they seem to have found a winning formula, I do hope that the O’Briens don’t farm this race for the foreseeable future and that this success is a one off. I rather like it to be a quirky sort of race where fairytales can happen [a bit like the Grand National but without horses being injuries]. I think if, say, Iaian Jardine had won it I’d be over the moon for him today but I do get tired of the same people winning everything. On the other hand [and I know I’m being two faced] I’m pleased it was Joseph who won and I do acknowledge that the O’Briens are total geniuses and also really nice people [we met them at Longchamp one year and they spent ages chatting to people and signing racecards]. By the way, is this the first year that Godolphin haven’t had a runner?
November 7, 2017 at 13:58 #1325611It is true, report me for inappropriate content…This site has a clique, one must be UK or Irish or you can’t handle it…You big sooks :)…

November 7, 2017 at 16:47 #1325643Some on here will know I Backed Rekindling ante-post for……………………………………………. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… the Long Distance Cup.
Wanted to wait until the day of the Melbourne Cup in case it came up firm…
Been doing other things and forgot all about the race.
Value Is EverythingNovember 7, 2017 at 18:34 #1325666Fantastic win for Rekindling sired by one of my favs in High Chaparral. Great to see the European 1-2-3
Glad you popped up Ginge
Going by Ginger form of lengths and distances (see QE11 Beat the Bank)
Rekindling won the Melbourne
in the Curragh Cup (Group 2) he was 2 lengths ahead of Elidor
Elidor beat Wall of Fire in a photo finishSo using Ginger form I have promoted Wall of Fire to 4th……

Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
November 7, 2017 at 18:57 #1325671I’m still wondering how Thomas Hobson would have got on if he’d had the original jockey
Mind you, looking at Rekindlings race record [bit late now…] it was full of ‘staying on really well’ comments. Still haven’t seen the race…November 7, 2017 at 19:30 #1325681I’m still wondering how Thomas Hobson would have got on if he’d had the original jockey 😥 Mind you, looking at Rekindlings race record [bit late now…] it was full of ‘staying on really well’ comments. Thomas Hobson was a million miles off the pace at the back. He never had a prayer but stayed on steadily for 6th place. I couldn’t find my glasses and didn’t see the minor placings, so was pleased to see Nakeeta get 5th when I checked later.
Here is the replay Moe. Enjoy.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 7, 2017 at 20:42 #1325712Hats off to you Degaussed, dare I say that will be a bet you remember for the rest of your life. Bloody brilliant stuff.
Thanks, Voleur. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t beaming all day because of this win! I like to look for one at long-odds, and it’s been a long time since my last drink, so to get a result like this is re-assuring if nothing else.
It was a great race to watch – I thought Johannes Vermeer ran a great race, after a poor season over here. I think it’s going to take some animal to stop Rekindling winning the Ascot Gold Cup next season.
November 8, 2017 at 01:20 #1325741Did I read that the young apprentice on Thomas Hobson has got a ban?
November 8, 2017 at 01:50 #1325742Speaking of Godolphin moehat, I read a damning article from the Sydney Morning Herald today, revealing the operation has suffered losses of A$91 million last year, up from A$55.7 million the prior year. It is his airline that provides the prize money for the Cup and the rest of the festival, yet Godolphin as a whole were only able to generate $19.7 million in prize money revenue last year.
Accumulated losses for the operation have now topped $614 million, and for all that Hartnell is the best they can come up with, who finished 20th in a field of 24. I’ve nothing against the horse, but for that amount of sustained investment, you’d want to be seeing much better returns. The company admitted that its “ability to continue as a going concern is dependent upon the continued financial support of its ultimate shareholder”, Sheikh Mohammed. Those figures speak for themselves, they speak for the whole of Godolphin and how the operation is run. I understand they are in a transitional period, and we should give Osbourne a chance to get them back on track, but the whole operation looks to be nearing breaking point. It’s a pity so many communities and livelihoods within racing are dependant on Godolphin, because if I was Sheikh Mohammed, I would want to gut the entire thing right down to it’s bare bones and rebuild from there. I hope they can regain their former glory, one team dominating is bad for every sport, and perhaps their recent activity in the sales ring resembles a light at the end of the tunnel.
With regards to Johannes Vermeer, a Group 1 winner over 7f at two, second in a Melbourne Cup at four. That achievement alone should tell you everything about the difference between Coolmore and Godolphin. Admittedly it was a substandard Group 1, but if you look down through the field you will see coming in at 7th, a certain Almanzor..
November 8, 2017 at 08:19 #1325748Just another chapter in the story of clan O’brien. Truly remarkable to win a race of this stature at 24. Just crazy. He obviously has what it takes to be a force on the flat and over jumps. I wonder if the lads will send maybe a few of the galileos to Joseph’s yard now. I’m sure he won’t be short of owners wanting to send there horses to him. Spare a thought for Dave wachman. Although he’s not short of a bob or two he could have had four group ones with winter and of course the Melbourne Cup. I wonder what he was thinking as rekindling crossed the line.
November 8, 2017 at 13:16 #1325769Having had a day to reflect, I feel it is sour grapes on my part in that I didn’t back Rekindling. But I do hate to see the sport being dominated by one group of people; it’s so bad for the sport itself. No matter how much money they have/access to the best bred horses etc what Coolmore do is a fantastic achievement. And I have to be honest and say [perhaps it’s my age and failing memory] that a lot of Aidan’s horses merge into each other.
