The Aussie’s are well and truly on it trying to stop the European horses from winning looking at the draw!
Red Cardinal – 24 (of 24)
Tiberian – 23
U S Army Ranger – 22
Thomas Hobson – 21
Nakeeta – 19
Marmelo – 16
Wall Of Fire – 15November 5, 2017 at 13:45 #1325303I think I’m going mad the forgotten horse rekindling ..running on in the Leger after a poor ride 2m is going to suit decent draw low weight I hope and pray a Aussie jockey is on board if Capri was in here off the same weight draw what price would he be ? 2/1 my moneys down.
November 5, 2017 at 14:38 #1325322Max Dynamite drawn 2 with Top Hong Kong jockey Zac Purton booked to ride.
Getting quietly confident of a big run from him. 6 lb lower than when he should of won in 2015
Reports in the press that he has been working the house down this week at Weribee and back to the form he was in then.
November 5, 2017 at 15:11 #1325328Max Dynamite took my eye too but I worry he’s had his chance already. Rekindling gets in off a nice weight but I think he’ll be leaving all too late and I’m not sure he’s going to want a really quick surface.
I’ve been quite boring and have backed 3 for the defending team: Almandin (7/1), Humidor (8/1) and Boom Time (30/1). All 3 are drawn well which is the first plus. Almandin just seems to be in cracking form and if he can reproduce his run from last year it should be good enough to take this despite the rise in the weights. Humidor’s form behind Winx last time is the best on offer here. For sure the trip is an unknown but if he won I’d be kicking myself as it seems so obvious. And I just couldn’t resist a little nibble on Boom Time at 30/1. The price just suckered me in really as I understand how big an ask it is to win the Caulfield Cup and this but I felt he looked like this trip will see him in good stead and there’s every chance he could go for it early and be hard to catch.
Best of luck everyone, I for one will be up early to watch it live.
November 5, 2017 at 17:54 #1325356Last year I had arguably my greatest day of betting, having the 1-2 in this – and unoriginal I can’t drop the faith in Almandin who won so gamely. Neither draw or weight is a worry and had a nice little pipe opener last month. This is one of the few races missing from Dettori’s CV so he’ll be doing his utmost to land the race. At 13/2 I’m hoping he can land back to back renewals.
My eachway fancies have a very Uk&I look to it and include Wall Of Fire, Thomas Hobson and Rekindling. All look feasibly treated and berthed and at double figure odds each will act as a good support cast to my main bet Almandin.
Good luck to all and coffees aplenty at the early hours of Tuesday morning! Hi
November 5, 2017 at 18:10 #1325359Annoyingly I can’t get radio sport 927 to work properly at the moment; got a feeling this happened last year and I think someone sent me a link to another radio station. I like listening to it on Australian radio because I can pretend I’m there…
November 6, 2017 at 00:02 #1325401Have had to back Thomas Hobson as I’ve been following him for many a year and seem to remember him being a good flat horse before he switched to hurdling. Also Amelies Star. Backed Single Gaze ages ago and Libran [don’t know why I backed the latter; must have been blue on oddschecker at some point]. Can never leave out Wicklow Brave [if he starts, that is; reminds me of dear old Holy Orders!]. Have finally got radio sport working on my old tablet and am now scared to turn it off in case it doesn’t work next time. If I remember rightly, a few years back I offered to not back fancied horses for a small charge, so as not to jinx them, so I will not back Wall of Fire and will expect the cheque to be in the post on Tuesday…
November 6, 2017 at 08:03 #132540759 page pdf for HKJC simulcast of six races here:
http://racing.hkjc.com/racing/overseas/english/racecard.aspx?para=/20171107/S2/3
although HKJC is putting out the simulcast races on TV in English, unfortunately its web radio commentary will be Cantonese only:
by my totally unofficial / probably misconceived updating of the Lazy Punter’s Melbourne Cup System from Hats In The Ring (1997) by Alan “Hats” Aitken:
1 – HUMIDOR (855 out of 1000), way clear of a bunch finish by:
2 – Marmelo (745)
3 – Ventura Storm (745)
4 – Almandin (735)
5 – Red Cardinal (715)November 6, 2017 at 13:47 #1325430Not a race im ever involved in but i think ill have a small bet on max dynamite and nakeeta at 14/1 and 25/1
November 6, 2017 at 13:50 #1325433I am confident Marmelo will give England their first Melbourne Cup, super run in the Caulfield Cup wasn’t suited by Caulfield and 2 miles is perfect.Libran at 50-1 is overs just coming right at the exact time.Almandin very hard to beat and Wicklow Brave is a ridiculous price at 70-1, Frankie took him via the car park last year when right in the market.Copped a check on the turn in the Caulfield Cup forget the run. Drawn beautiful, no weight and his Aussie Jockey Stephen Baster is on fire.Best of the rest Johannes Vermeer great run Caulfield Cup, Rekindling and Thomas Hobson both no weight and dangers. Humidor and Wall of Fire both will struggle to get 2 mile. Amelie’s Star as the only other i give a chance of being there. Get on Marmelo, can’t get a much better jock than Hugh Bowman, looks like the winner, Libran, Almandin and Wicklow Brave for the first 4.
November 6, 2017 at 14:04 #1325436If I remember rightly, a few years back I offered to not back fancied horses for a small charge, so as not to jinx them, so I will not back Wall of Fire and will expect the cheque to be in the post on Tuesday…

November 6, 2017 at 18:40 #1325469I’ve just looked at this race and I’m just having the one bet on Humidor each way around 16/1. He knows his way around the course and the draw at 13 seems okay too, Charles likes the look of him
so my bet is on…
Good luck everyone. : Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 6, 2017 at 19:22 #1325474I have backed three in this six places each way.
HUMIDOR 10/1
BIG DUKE 20/1
VENTURA STORM 33/1
It looks tough and a lot of the European horses have bad draws!!
Good Luck Guys
November 6, 2017 at 19:53 #1325480I’ll take a chance on Nakeeta at around 33’s, despite that draw, and I’ll top up a wee bit at the 6 Places at lower odds.
6 Places also for Boom Time 33’s, and Wicklow Brave 50’s will also do me, for a bit of fun.
November 6, 2017 at 19:55 #1325481Humidor 10/1, Rekindling 12/1 and Max Dynamite 14/1 for me. Best of luck everyone, it’s going to be a long night.
