I can see this race cutting up a lot and have just chucked a fiver EW on Disko at 33-1. I think he’s Giggi’s most realistic Gold Cup contender at this stage. He’s entered in the John Durkan and Giggi don’t tend to swerve opponents easily but perhaps they will be tempted to race Might Bite for big money and prestige rather than Sizing John and Djakadam for less. They might get better ground for him at Kempton, too.
December 3, 2017 at 15:55 #1330184Racing Post gave Thistlecrack 149 for his run last Friday, with winner Beer Goggles raised to 162.
From being “Ready to win” Tizzard now says the horse can “Improve massively by Boxing Day”
I think he’s talking rubbish myself. He’s just saying what he is dreaming will happen. Reality is very different. I can see him leaving it as late as possible before concocting a story and pulling the horse out.
It’s the same carry on with Coneygree’s crew. Always positive reports but the horse is clearly goosed now.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
December 3, 2017 at 15:58 #1330187Be very interesting if Fox Norton doesn’t get declared for the Tingle Creek…
December 3, 2017 at 16:13 #1330191You think he’ll stay?
December 3, 2017 at 16:21 #1330193Dunno. Think a fit Douvan would hammer him over 2 miles anyway.
December 4, 2017 at 09:15 #1330303I dont.
his run LTO was very impressive and he is at an age where he is entitled to still be improving this year. I really do think he can compete with Altior/Douvan come March for the QM. Dont think we have seen the best of FN yet. Will be disappointing if they go for the KG over the Tingle Creek with him.
December 4, 2017 at 12:44 #1330327Douvan and FN are the same age and Douvan has had 10 starts over fences to FN’s 15. So Douvan perhaps just as capable of improvement. Officially he has 5lb in hand over FN but neither horse has really been tested to its limit. I agree that FN’s last start was v impressive- I don’t think he is a mudlark, particularly, so to make light of those conditions and win so easily was a great performance.
Hope we will get to see them both in action in the Tingle Creek!
December 5, 2017 at 22:38 #1330573Have had a good think about this and I’m going with BDM. I just keep coming back to that “freak” performance.
Might Bite beats Frodon by 8L. Frodon isn’t on the level of Cue Card or Outlander; BDM squashes them both by 57L plus. I know this argument has been done to death but purely from a numbers stand point; if Cue Card and Outlander both delivered their worst ever performance over fences, BDM stil posted a mark above anything Kauto ever achieved.
5/1 a nice price too.
December 11, 2017 at 17:20 #1331644As normal, Stan James went shortest on Sizing John after his comeback win. The offer of 3/1 clearly wasn’t going to get the phones ringing and they have pushed him out to 5/1.
It won’t make any difference anyway, because it looks highly unlikely that he will run. I’ve binned my 12/1 ticket anyway because there is no fairy tale big enough to see him turn up, not even at Christmas. There is as much chance of Francesca Cumani tapping Nathan Hughes’ front door on Christmas Morning with a bottle of Bollinger, wearing a mink coat and announcing that all her other clothes got burnt in a bonfire incident.
Anyway, Jessie Harrington stated that there is no rush to make a decision on whether Sizing John will run over Christmas. She was happy that he won well on ground that he hated and she went on to say that she wondered if going to Punchestown last season after two hard races might have bottomed the horse out and they are keen to avoid such an occurrence this time.
In summary the trainer said that “I’d love to run him at Leopardstown but we will do whatever is good for the horse”
It doesn’t sound like Kempton is on the agenda at all, so don’t waste your money on the horse who was chasing the treble dream at one stage, but who will now be attempting the single by all accounts.
I have had a small saver on Bristol De Mai at 5/1, as I feel he will line up no bigger than 3/1.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I read that the Tizzards were looking for an easier race for Cue Card over the festive season.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
December 12, 2017 at 11:04 #1331717They were looking at the rescheduled Peterborough on Thursday it seems.

Topped up on some 7/1 today
December 12, 2017 at 16:23 #1331746News from the Tizzard-ing World today is that Colin will be throwing 3 darts at the King George with Cue Card and Fox Norton likely to join Thistlecrack.
I think it’ll really take some Christmas magic to get Cue Card home in front though.
