Doh……just realised the winner is a gelding so the Arc is a non starter, so Japan Cup could be worth taking a look at although BC Turf maybe more likely
July 27, 2024 at 17:18 #1702965Not watched all the Ascot races but noticed that so far the King George is the only race to go under standard whilst the rest of the races have been anywhere between 1 second to over 5 seconds slow.
Question – were all the other races relatively slowly run or are O’Brien’s claim of
“It was good, good to soft in places. It was nowhere near good to firm anywhere. It was cut up on the rails and full of sand.”
a valid excuse for AR’s run?
July 27, 2024 at 17:28 #1702970Thanks, everyone. 🍻
I thought he would definitely sneak into the frame but never thought he would destroy them like that.
Bluestocking definitely remains of interest once the rain arrives; I could see her running a big race in the Arc.
July 27, 2024 at 17:31 #1702971HDLG,
Kevin Pitterson said on ITV that Rodin looked better in the paddock today than at Ascot. Not sweating, but I did see him sweating up (at least a “kidney sweat”) just before the off. So maybe those with horse watchers at the start were pushing Rodin’s odds out. However, although I got the winner all wrong, I did mention AR’s form did not entitle him to be so short, so expected a drift. That said, the 3.25 I saw just before the off was a little surprising.Value Is EverythingJuly 27, 2024 at 17:39 #1702973““It was good, good to soft in places. ——————————-Nope,
Just another one of AOB’s daft excuses.
The time tells you it was not “good, good-soft in places”.
…And if it was good, good-soft in places, then why the f… did all AOB’s trio go off as if the ground was on the firm side of good-firm?
…And if they knew it was “cut up on the rails” why did they send their first string around the inner?Value Is EverythingJuly 27, 2024 at 17:45 #1702974I don’t know what to say about Auguste Rodin. Beaten 22 lengths in a Guineas, 127 and 12 lengths in two KGs, 22 lengths in the Sheema Classic. Only won decent races when the team helped him or the gaps opened like in the BC Turf. Otherwise his only standout win seems to be last year’s Derby. He wasn’t anywhere near White Birch on home soil and yet AOB (and most likely the Lads as well) finds all kinds of excuses.
July 27, 2024 at 18:16 #1702976What a shame Isle of Jura got crocked.
As for AR stinking the place out yet again he really is a horse I cannot take to.
Have we heard from AOB ?
Listen it’s something I have got wrong, let the Lads down wid dis and this boy who is the greatest horse in the world. I need to say sorry to all the team, Paddy the local shop owner, Willie the feed merchant and Seamus the cat. Listen blah blah blah.
July 27, 2024 at 18:32 #1702979Ginge – that was pretty much my initial view too.
Every time he runs now it is invariably preceeded with the comment of “depending on which AR shows up” and if race conditions aren’t exactly tailor made for him down to the nth degree, you can pretty much expect a sub par performance from him to be quickly followed with the next line in ‘excuses’.
July 27, 2024 at 18:33 #1702981They walked the track and realised it had been sanded along the rail but they still perused that path and said they should have taken a wider course. Why didn’t they then, what was the point of walking the track.
The more I know the less I understand.
July 27, 2024 at 19:14 #1702987Never should have been that short and wouldn’t have been a bet even at 3/1, he was a great price for the Breeders Cup based on the competition he was up against but I thought he ran only a little below par today and would have placed at best if on song. He’s essentially been found good opportunities at group 1 level and you can’t knock that, fair play. As for Aiden’s comments post-race, I don’t agree with what was said but it was straight after the race, everybody needs a cool down at some point.
July 27, 2024 at 19:23 #1702990Stickles has very politely accused AOB of talking out of his fundament, going by report of the race in The Guardian.
July 27, 2024 at 19:35 #1702992“Only won decent races when the team helped him”.
“Helped” is a polite way of putting what happened in the Irish Derby last year.
“O’Brien should be warned about his future conduct concerning multiple runners and team tactics as they clearly contravene the rules and in my opinion the stable should be given a suspended ban which would automatically be implemented for future transgressions.”
I don’t disagree but there is absolutely zero chance of that happening. Coolmore are far too powerful and know they are untouchable.
“I used to love shopping around at the bookies on course for good value but now I just use The Tote where you are at least guaranteed a fair SP”.
That used to be one of the most enjoyable aspects of racing. Now I seldom bet in the betting ring at all. What’s the point when every bookmaker is offering the same price?
Agree with all the comments about over watering. Racing really is doing its best to ruin itself.
July 27, 2024 at 21:28 #1702996Excuses have to be made , those that be have stud fees to protect …. he ran out of actual excuses a while back , he’s a decent horse on a going day , no more , no less

July 27, 2024 at 22:40 #1703001Two of best French horses ineligible for Arc with Calandagen gelded too , my gut feeling is Calandagen the better of the two .
July 28, 2024 at 07:59 #1703016Its curious that the Arc is still closed to geldings when we’re so short of decent middle distance horses.
I don’t really get Aiden protecting Rodin so much with the excuses. He’s probably not in the top 20 horses he’s trained and Deep Impact is sadly no longer with us to protect as a stallion either.
July 28, 2024 at 08:50 #1703018Plenty of price variation in the ring at Ascot yesterday, presumably helped by a large crowd and a much greater number of pitches occupied than would be the case for most meetings.
I backed Tales of the Heart at 7/1, when it was 13/2 or 6/1 on most boards. New Image at 10/1 when it was mostly 9/1 or 17/2. Rebels Romance at 3/1 when 11/4 was widespread. And, gratefully, Al Qudra at 5/1 when 9/2 and 4/1 was the price on almost every board.
All those prices taken from bookies in the second and third row in the Grandstand enclosure.
July 28, 2024 at 08:56 #1703019Obrien is protecting the stud fees … that’s what Coolmore care about , race wins are bonuses
