Clearly it was the plan by Coolmore (although Hans was slow to start) but it would appear it was either not a good one to begin with or poorly executed – you would imagine it was supposed to be Hans going on from the start and then Luxembourg takes over about 3-4F out to then deliver AR to the front inside final 1.5F.

Note this is the 1st time the winner has run on fast ground with a fast early pace – the Hardwick was run 2.49s slow whilst today was 2.27s fast (both on officially good to firm).

Mike, I don’t think they’re all that great. And how good City of Troy is remains to be seen. Just too much talk from AOB over the past years. Maybe he is just as risky as Auguste Rodin.

O’Brien walked the course, knew it was good to soft yet still used 2 pacemakers to cut Auguste Rodin’s Throat.

    Genius.

I backed Rebels Romance and couldn’t believe what I was seeing, course cutting up with muck flying everywhere. Once again, they’ve watered too much.

You can’t post a time like that mostly on the bridle I’d add on good-soft ground.

Kick in the teeth for connections of Isle of Jura who comfortably beat him at Ascot. 100% I’d have been on him for this.

And a 28/1 shot wins it. Shockerooney the bookies fill their satchels. No wonder racing is on its knees. Looking eerily similar to greyhound racing where so many dodgy results stopped punters going and attendances plummeted and stadiums closed. Not a good look at all.

Mickeyjp, I wouldn’t be concerned about the winner. The horse couldn’t do more than win easily, but what really concerns me are the so-called team tactics applied by just one ownership. This wasn’t a three runner race, the pace was guaranteed. No need to have a 200-1 shot wandering about 2f out.

Agreed re coolmore. Total cock up. Still yet another big race where we have huge odds winner which was directly affected by the excessive watering. Punters will start voting with their feet then their wallets. I don’t think the powers that be realise the precarious situation is in. Attendances plummeting, prizemoney dropping and turnover sinking. If a huge racing enthusiast like me is getting worried then there is something needs to be done. I’m sure it will be a case of nothing to see here.

If looking at the fractions of the Hardwicke, LD; they went a steady gallop in that race. Whereas the pace today was fast. Ground was – as the official – Good-Firm in both. I personally thought Goliath a bit flattered at Royal Ascot because he tracked the steady pace (positional advantage over Continuous and Middle Earth). However, he didn’t settle at all well that day whereas he settled much better today off with the pace being a good one… Which probably made the difference and improved again.

Glad that ‘team coolmore’ got well and truly stuffed!
O’Brien should be warned about his future conduct concerning multiple runners and team tactics as they clearly contravene the rules and in my opinion the stable should be given a suspended ban which would automatically be implemented for future transgressions.
    good luck to all

Just because an outsider wins does not mean it was necessarily a bad King George. Yes, Rodin and Romance were below form due to them going off too fast. But Bluestocking probably ran somewhere near her best. Goliath’s level of ability now up with the bests of Rodin and Romance.

I dont mind pacemakers. Look at the York group 2 today. A couple of trainers could have done with a pacemaker in that race.

Agree with you totally about team tactics, Blackcountry Kid. I’ve started a thread in the Horse Racing section about it.

Ginge – Fully agree that it was an improved performance and that settling early has probably made the biggest difference to that – you can’t take the Hardwick form literally in that Island of Jura would have confirmed that running had he been in the field today.

He has now won on good to firm along with Very Soft, Soft and Good to Soft and is comparatively lightly raced for a 4yr old (today was his 9th career run as he didn’t run as a 2 yr old) so potentially there could still be more improvement in him.

I do wonder whether they might think about a Japan Cup entry (usually run on fast ground) or being that today was his 5th run of the season, will he now get the typical French prep of a break and then a run in the Prix Foy (or similar trial) to set him up for the Arc?

Rodin was weak at the off , he just runs to many shockers now a days , even taking away the stupid tactics I still don’t think he,d have won , thought the filly ran a cracker , I’ll be keeping her onside

I do agree with mickey regarding the bookies…
Yes a 28/1 winner scoots home in the big race bookies fill their satchel with punters money 💰 they also cash in because they have fleeced the punters who backed the winner by offering skinny odds on course.

I noticed whilst watching on ITV that the bookies were offering at least 10 points lower than the true odds of outsiders running today so would guess that the best they offered for Goliath was around 18 or 20/1. Why is this being allowed to happen?

I used to love shopping around at the bookies on course for good value but now I just use The Tote where you are at least guaranteed a fair SP.
The bookies think they are being smart but their greedy behavior is contributing to punters not coming racing.
