If Azertyuiop, Moscow Flyer & Well Chief were still around I’d think twice about running KS because I don’t think that he’s quite in that league over 2m
At two miles that trio were in a different league to KS.
November 28, 2006 at 09:37 #31393KS was hard pushed to beat Ashley Brook in last year’s Tingle Creek – why would it be a ‘schooling session’ this time with the added presence of Voy Por Ustedes and Foreman in the race?
He is not a natural two-miler and he will have a hard race – he might look good at a slow pace over 3m (he is very very good at a slow pace over 3m) but half-a-dozen miles faster over the railway fences may require him to get way out of his comfort zone.
He’s not Desert Orchid, you know . . .
November 28, 2006 at 10:04 #31394And, as I recall, Ashley Brook was carrying an injury in last year’s Tingle Creek that prevented him running again for the rest of the season. Kauto (Cor-toe) Star’s two-mile form is not really stacking up . . .
November 28, 2006 at 10:22 #31395I thought he won quiet nicely last year (although even then you suspected he needed further) and he certainly jumped round nicely. Quick review of the form reminded me how well he took the railway fences. I think the reference to "jumping problems" by some, is overdoing it a bit…
Also forgotten is that he was just 5 last year
But its been tipping down here today (again) and i suspect that if this continues, he wont run.
Cant wait though. One of best days racing of the year
November 28, 2006 at 11:14 #31396Haven’t seen the rest of the decs, but I would be extremely happy to take it on at 1/2. Silly price in my opinion against VPU who King says is going really well at home, won first time out last season, and won an extremely competitive Arkle last season. KS jumping has been questioned over 2m, because of the faster pace and Nicholls himself said that over further distances his jumping is allowed to be a lot better, because of the slower pace. Lump on VPU for me.
November 28, 2006 at 11:25 #31397paul nicholls said that he is more likely to run the softer the ground is on saturday clivex. i suppose this is because it will be more of a stamina test, and a slower gallop. personally i think he should run. anything could happen between now and the king george, and i doubt his owner is overly interested in the million bonus
November 28, 2006 at 11:29 #31398I’d rather back foreman against both of them. Softer ground should suit him more than VPU and I agree with other people that KS is definitely not a 1/2 shot over 2m.
Does VPU still get a weight allowance or not? If he doesn’t i’ll definitely take them on.
November 28, 2006 at 11:42 #313995 year olds dont get any allowances in the tingle creek, atleast they didnt last year. im not a foreman fan to be honest. he isnt going to be getting any better rising 9 and often needs his first run of the season. i agree kauto star shouldnt be 1/2 but if central house runs there wont be any hanging around, and in the mud stamina will come into play.
November 28, 2006 at 11:57 #31400Apparently he is running
Great stuff. im going to be there!
November 28, 2006 at 12:01 #31401I would be extremely surprised if KS runs, especially given the way Nicholls criticised himself for trying to make a Queen Mother horse out of a Gld Cup horse. In his absence, the renewal looks weak, and VPU should have no problems accounting for the remainder.
IMO, it has been a weak Paddy Power, a weak Hennessey and now a weak Tingle Creek. With so much quality out there it is a bit disappointing that they seem to be swerving each other.
It does look like he is running. I checked his odds on betfair about half an hour ago and he was around 3’s, now he is odds on
November 28, 2006 at 12:06 #31403I think it was announced on ATR that Paul Nicholls confirmed he was an intended runner. V good for our sport IMO.
November 28, 2006 at 12:08 #31404Certainly adds an interesting twist to the race!

November 28, 2006 at 12:25 #31406im quite confused! yesterday they said they wouldnt make up there minds until the end of the week as to wether KS would take his chance, now people seem to think is is going to run! have i missed something?
November 28, 2006 at 12:31 #31407Fair play to Nicholls is all I can say. I still don’t believe that KS is that fluent over his obstacles, and over 2m this will be exposed.
November 28, 2006 at 12:51 #31408Try watching last years race or read RP summary
But he took the eye with the way he travelled and jumped here, gaining lengths over the Railway Fences, and he also impressed when quickening away from Ashley Brook coming away from the third-last.
Given the ground, the race was not quite a speed test, but i remember well how well he took those Railway fences and if any fences will expose the technique…those will
