Central House’s form always tails off in the Spring ~ he’s a much more potent weapon in the latter months of the year and will (imo) really appreciate Sandown as he is such a sound jumper. I think this is a good move by the estimable Mr Hughes.
November 30, 2006 at 22:10 #31512Paul N now saying KS could miss the King George altogether!!
November 30, 2006 at 22:58 #31513This talk of KS winning the Tingle Creek and going on to win at Cheltenham brings back memories …
Chl – 16 Mar 06
The carnage through the race, including the early departure of favourite and Grade1 Tingle Creek winner Kauto Star, added to the diminuition of this Grade 1 event – RP
Tingle Creek winners don’t always go on to win at Cheltenham ;)
I won’t be taking a short price about him at Cheltenham, based on his sole Cheltenham run to date. Let’s see him win the KG first. I’ll give him that one, but I won’t be betting on it. A watching race for me.
If he doesn’t run in it, it will be a pity. It will also leave us clueless as to his full ability too
December 1, 2006 at 09:32 #31514DJ that was his best run since he won last and he was beaten ten lengths… Since then he’s finished nowhere, in fact he hasn’t got within 35 lengths of a winner.. 9th of 9 last time in a much worse race than this beaten 39 lengths, either there is something wrong with the horse or he really isn;t that good..
December 2, 2006 at 14:42 #31515On the bridle. But what did he beat they will ask once more.
December 2, 2006 at 14:53 #31516If he can put in the same kind of performances on faster ground there looks to be nothing to trouble him in that kind of form.
December 2, 2006 at 15:04 #31517Not quite so impressive to my eye – but still to win a group 1 in a stroll aint too bad. I dont think we will see him back at 2m again.

LOL @ DJ
December 2, 2006 at 17:33 #31519How anyone can say ‘not too impressive to my eye’ and almost immediately admit the horse ‘won a grade one in a stroll’ mystifies me completely.
Stunning is the only word to describe this horse, today and so far this season. He wasn’t very clever at a couple of fences admittedly, but he never looked like coming down and fairly mullered an (impressive) Arkle winner.

Yet another superb performance, over a distance probably short of his best, and still he treats good horses with complete disdain.
Even though dropping back a mile in trip, it looked for all the world as if they weren’t going fast enough for him early, and the couple of errors late on probably owed more to boredom than lack of jumping ability.
Imo a proper star, with the potential to get even better.
God willing he will remain injury-free, for he is a horse to truly savour.
December 2, 2006 at 20:06 #31521I’m 48 and my racing memory banks go back to 1967 (just missing Arkle). Kauto Star is the most impressive steeplechaser I have ever seen both in performance and looks. I got up close and personal with him in the pre-parade ring at Aintree, and believe me the horse has a magical aura. I’m a cynic by nature and I do not not say that lightly.
I for one hope that the horse goes on to reach iconic status, he has the right connections to ensure he is given every chance to do so in Nicholls and Walsh so I have my fingers crossed.

December 2, 2006 at 20:20 #31522I don’t trust him. I wouldn’t trust his jumping in the KG or, particularly, the Gold Cup.

Did the same at sandown today and can almost agree.

I wouldn’t say I don’t trust him, but i’m still not overly impressed with his jumping. The last two fences today simply backed up my suspicions that he wouldn’t be a stone cold certainty around Chelters.
He’s good. Make no mistake. I just still have misgivings about him potentially missing one out in the Gold Cup. I would say that Kempton shouldn’t hold too many fears for him though.
December 2, 2006 at 21:45 #31525Regarding KS making the odd mistake, Arkle used to do the same occasionally – remember the oft shown bulldozing of the fence in front of the stands in his 3rd gold cup. He also used to jump to the left when not meeting a fence on a perfect stride, and if you watch the famous 1st Gold Cup win he was out jumped by Mill House on several occasions. His sheer brilliance as a galloping machine enabled him to overcome the odd abberation and perhaps KS may be cut from something like the same cloth.
December 2, 2006 at 22:17 #31526Letsgetracing,
I did not say "not too impressive" I said " not quite so impressive" ( as Haydock) – hence my belief that we will not see him back over 2 miles. I started this thread by saying he was the best I had seen since Arkle and Flyingbolt days and I still believe that – but 20 to 24 furlongs will suit him best IMO
December 2, 2006 at 23:16 #31527What about 27f?
