was wondering can you name any 5yr old NH horse by Montjeu that won a race in GB or Ireland since January 1st?
Not really, because i barely follow breeding on the jumps. Having said that, havent seen too many montjeus on the jumps but isnt there one at kings stable?
He is four and was bought of the flat from Andre Fabre, he was turned over by a Charlie Mann 33-1 shot recently. Your suggestion O’Neill ruined Mountain is a bit ridiculous, Montjeus hardly set the world on fire as the get older, they are a very difficult horse to keep sound. But as you said you don’t really follow breeding on the jumps, not sure what you follow to be honest….

December 6, 2008 at 01:25 #194700Personally I think they are both very good trainers
I’m just not sure they are, but I take your point. I thought it was disrespectful to Alan King and a sad measure some people have to go to when they say "if that had happend to Jonjo etc", implying that a horse running a good race in third is some how the fault of Alan King. Putting Alan King in the same league as Jonjo O Neill training wise is something I personally couldn’t do, and it would be ignorant of the fact that Alan King can be trusted to prepare champions chasers, arkle contenders, and world hurdlers, whilst Jonjo is impotent to produce the results at the same level. This is not "punter talk", this is "racing talk", and if it had happend to any other trainer there would have been hell on in racing circles and the press because realistically Jonjo’s results are not good enough, but because it’s Jonjo (alledged to be "the biggest gangster in Irish racing" on one forum once apon a time) he gets away with it. It just goes to show insiders and the press in racing only pick up on the things they’re told to or when they don’t see a threat, thats why journo’s like Lydia Hislop are a rariety.
Me, i’m not a scared of anyone, no one knocks off old marble.
Marble, I agree with you Alan King is a better trainer than O’Neill, you are judged on your results and winners and King does produce goods.

December 6, 2008 at 01:28 #194701Can also add Jeu D’Espirit and Mon Chevalier to the list of Monteju progeny to win under NH rules in 2008. Whilst checking that out I came across a son of Montjeu called Autumn Promise who was bought for 125,000 gns as a 3-y-o and finished last on all 3 of his starts over hurdles. My research didn’t go as far as who the trainer was for the hurdling career so if anyone could check that out for me it would be much appreciated.
He won one race on the flat out of four starts an egg and spoon race at Lyon. Whats your point?

When you’re taking the piss out of others, I always think it’s best to make sure you are on terra firma yourself. Mount Helicon is 3, not 4 and was beaten by a 33/1 shot of Charles Egertons rather than one of Charlie Mann’s.

Possibly would be alright, thanks for the correction.

Because quite simply, look at the breeding of many of the best jumpers of recent years. its not totally irrelevant but not that relevant either is it?
Admittedly montjeus quirks are not likely to lend itself to a hurdler who battles up the cheltenham hill

Not like you to chirp up without thinkng mate…….Jonjo has finished ahead of Alan King 7 out of the last 8 years…….he’s also won more races at the two biggest meeting Aintree and Cheltenham…..as I said both good trainers but people it would seem have very short memories quickly forgetting your sucesses and latching on to the Black Jack ketchums…..Joonjo knocked up 70 winners in a season before the grand facilities of Jackdaw came along…not bad for a plonker
Geez who started this rubbish again anyway?
