Anyone any idea when the entries for this are made? It’s just over a month away and there’s hardly a bookie who’s priced it up.
Probably my favourite race of the year. Would love to see Surrey Quest being aimed here.
November 20, 2024 at 09:50 #1713355I think they said they want to win the Mandarin Chase again over Xmas with Surrey Quest but we’ll see.
I backed Iron Bridge last year when 2nd (and his next race as well i think). Off 142 that day and now 6 pound lower and is an intended runner. He’s 25-1 i can see currently and was 8-1 last year so will have a bit of that ew 4 places as an opening pick.
November 20, 2024 at 20:19 #1713405No sign of entries then.
Three of interest for me right now are Eldorado Allen, Midnight Our Fred, and Mr Incredible
Eldorado Allen runs tomorrow, and while a horse I’ve never bet, or really considered in the past, there’s just something about him for this, that really appeals
I think Midnight Our Fred will come over for a few races this season, and this looks good option for him
Looking forward to seeing what Sandy Thomson can do with Mr Incredible, though he may not be an Antepost option if he got an entry, as he’d have options closer to home, like The Rowland Meyrick. Hoping to see him entered at Newcastle next week for The Rehearsal Chase. Definitely think he can win a decent prize this year
November 21, 2024 at 19:41 #1713452No mention of the Welsh National in the statement regarding targets for Surrey Quest on the racing post from the part owner today.
They’ve stated they don’t intend to run much this year and that plans are still open but the mandarin was confirmed as the next step like you said Mike.
They’re thinking the Aintree national either this year or next.
I’d like to see someone like Twig aimed here as well. But mostly I’d just like to see some bloody entries full stop!

Monbeg Genius heads the list of about 8 I could back right now.
Mr Vango, Blackjack magic, Galia Des Liteuax, iwilldoit, good risk at all. Might pay to wait until 5 day confirmation with most but I’m definitely having a bite of the Monbeg genius pie right now at 20’s.

November 26, 2024 at 22:46 #1714144Very early interest is in Mr Vango, Iwilldoit, Stay Away Fay and Threeunderthroughfive.
November 26, 2024 at 22:56 #1714146Actually pleased that my three on the shortlist aren’t entered, as I don’t have to try and side with one.
There’s a few Elliot contenders I’m drawn too, and I’ll probably have one ondide on the day, with Coko Beach the obvious one for me, but he tends to enter a lot every year without running them so I’ll hold fire.
Marsh Wren a very interesting contender, and a bit surprised at the 40’s. That might be gone by tomorrow, and I won’t bet her just now, but it was close
I am planning on betting one though, Val Dancer. I just loved his win at Carlisle. Led them along nicely, jumped well, and when they all lined up behind, nobody could get to him, and it wasn’t for the lack of trying. Great attitude from him, and I hit the impression that it was cosier than the winning margin suggested. Only up 5lbs for it, and I like the yard.
Main worry would be his mark, and not many get in from as low as this, so even if gets in, could be few pounds wrong, which might send them elsewhere. Still, he’s 66’s, and I’m happy to have an early stab
Val Dancer 66’s EW
November 27, 2024 at 13:36 #1714176If they’re going for the Mandarin again with SQ then it suggests the National this season
Inch House is interesting, particularly if he runs well at Newbury without winning
November 28, 2024 at 11:07 #1714231Ballygriffincottage for me at 33-1 ew
November 29, 2024 at 08:34 #1714299Keeping my powder dry on this one for now because a clear pattern has emerged of late: the weights are next Tuesday I think and the Trial is run a week on Saturday and what has tended to happen is somebody runs in that trial, wins it easily and then only picks up the penalty because its come after the weights. They get the course experience, they are well in at the weights. Nassalam did this last year, Iwilldoit, Secret Reprieve etc…. So I’ll be waiting to see who is declared for the trial that also realistically could have a chance in this.
November 29, 2024 at 19:39 #1714330Galia Des Liteaux’s long term target was named as this race quite some time ago so Big Dan Skelton must be reasonably confident of a big run from her.
But it does beg the question why he’d run her in the Hennessy tomorrow as an apparent prep!?
December 2, 2024 at 12:18 #1714581Iron Bridge now using the Becher Chase as a prep. Hoping it’s a ‘gentle ride round’ ;o)
December 2, 2024 at 12:36 #1714584Rarely have an antepost on this race but had to plump, early, for
Galia Des Liteuax 20/1
December 2, 2024 at 14:07 #1714588Early entries are in for the trial and there’s 12 I think who are entered in both at the moment, a few of them have other entries over the weekend as well with the Becher and London National at Sandown too, exceptional race planning as usual from the BHA

Nothing from me for now but the ones who most appeal are Brave Kingdom, Good Risk At All, Jubilee Express and Mr Vango but I’ve not seen any prices they are just the names that jump out. Jubilee Express and Good Risk is same trainer/owner so not expecting both to come this way.
December 2, 2024 at 16:53 #1714594My first tickle in this and it’s the Skelton horse , travelled really well in the coral and if this is the target then 20s looks a cracking e.w price
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 3, 2024 at 05:19 #1714638Added Galia Des Liteaux 20-1 ew 4 places for now.
