‘Republicans can sneer as much as they like but I do believe the royal involvement in racing is an asset to the sport. I am pleased the current King has kept it going and does make a bit of effort to look interested despite obviously not being as much of an enthusiast for the sport as his mother was.’

I have to say I am surprised that Charles has retained the involvement that he has and as you say it can only be a good thing. Rightly or wrongly, the ‘Royal seal of approval’ must count for something in the eyes of the public. However I do not see William keeping up the tradition and let’s be honest, his time is sooner rather than later.

I predict William will be mysteriously shot by a stray arrow while hunting in the New Forest and the ginger and his squeeze will get the gig.

There’s previous for this sort of thing with that lot if you look back far enough in form books written by people like Lady Antonia Fraser.

I’ve got all the 33/1, I’m afraid, though.

Best you’ll get now is 25s.

Agree Richard. I think the current interest depends mainly on Camilla (plus Charles respecting the late Queen’s by continuing her blood lines). Almost makes it less likely William will be a supporter.

Can’t we get this back to Adele

Agree, William seems to have no interest at all. I am not sure if he even attended Royal Ascot this year.

Maybe a racing manager will keep the royal connection going. It has survived monarchs who were indifferent before.

Edward VII was a major owner, with three Derby winners and a Grand National winner in his name. One of the Derby winners won the Triple Crown. His very last words were about one of his horses that had won at Kempton that afternoon.

George V and George VI had winners (including Classic winners in the latter case) but neither was anywhere near as interested in racing as Edward was. Elizabeth took royal interest back to the days of her great grandfather.

It happens in other aristocratic families as well. The 12th Earl of Derby had the great race named after him but the 15th Earl had no interest whatsoever and sold off all the Derby bloodstock. His son had to re-establish the family’s racing interests which were then taken to another level by the 17th Earl, with winners of all the Classics (including 3 Derbys and 6 St Leger. The next two Earls have also had success but on nothing like the same scale.

    “NathBet is offering 26/1.”

Oh dear – Nathbet are only ever over the odds when it’s definitely not going to happen.

    Getting back to Adele RTB…
Adele is the best female pundit and paddock watcher on the team. She pointed out several that were ‘going in their coats’ yesterday, a key pointer to a horse not running at its best and her ‘horsey bits’ with Hugo are really interesting and along with ‘Home Schooling’ provide light relief from the antics of Luke Harvey  .
To be honest when Ed Chamberlin said “we have some breaking news after the break” I was convinced that Frankie Dettori had changed his mind and decided to get on Gregory he looked so fed up in the paddock..
It was almost a relief when Continuous won the Leger and I’ve never seen Aiden O’Brien look so relaxed and happy both before and after a race with media attention being diverted by Dettori and the King. B-)

Agreed Trip, I thought the Luke Harvey bits were a one off but everyday was a bit too much. I am a fan of AOB he seems very personable and the interview he did with Chapman prior to the Leger, just after he had been talking with Brough Scott I enjoyed. What was the breaking news I can’t remember?

While no supporter of the royal family neither do I wish them any harm, although getting sick of being lectured by Charlie & his sons. However for the ginger California arm of the family to succeed to the throne Williams entire brood would have to ‘be mysteriously shot by stray arrows’ as they are all before Harry in the line of succession.
    good luck to all

    RTB..
The breaking news was instantly forgettable
“King Charles has arrived at the course to see his horse run”… …as if they didn’t know already.

Try as hard as he may any love the King has for racing doesn’t shine through his eyes as it did in our late Queens eyes when Estimate won the Ascot Gold Cup and every time she went racing or visited her horses of the Household Cavalry.

I’m no Royalist but I love Royal History, especially the Tudor Period where had half this lot been alive then they would have been haunting the Bloody Tower at midnight nursing a forever headache..🤕

The best film ever made in Britain. Peter Ustinov was right when he said it was one of the few films where you want to read the script afterwards.

“The next morning I went out shooting with Ethelred — or rather, to watch Ethelred shooting; for my principles will not allow me to take a direct part in blood sports.”

Aidan was in great form and was delighted he was left alone for a wee while. His interviews with matt are usually good fun and he’s always happy and relaxed. Probably Ryan told him he would win and aidan just watch it unfold. Ryan was in very jovial mood too. Continuous won very easily so aidans mind was probably on his next race.

Ed likes his breaking news unless it’s someone breaking it to him. He left his fellow panel members completely dumbstruck after breaking the Luke Comer news during them discussing the Leger. After a brief silence, unsurprisingly no one had a comment on the subject, Weaver said “can we get back to discussing the Leger”.
