Defi De Seuill for me
Had him antepost for the Champion hurdle after he won the triumph for me. Also have him as my star horse in the 10 to follow. Would be nice for him to run a big one and keep his hopes for March alive.
Would definitely have him over Melon.
Defi De Seuill @ 6/1

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 3, 2018 at 14:19 #1340574With big question marks about what was wrong with Faugheen last time and with the Hobbs stable still under a cloud… Melon is surely the bet here; can’t see him out of the first three and very good chance of winning. I’ve done 11/4 each way.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 3, 2018 at 15:37 #1340595Yet another superstar to come from the 2016 supreme Novices:
Altior
Min
Buveur D’air
Petit mouchior
SupasundaeEasily the strongest form race in the last 5 seasons.
They are just all absolute monsters!!!
February 3, 2018 at 15:38 #1340596Kudos to the ATR preview person then! Buveur d’Air probably didn’t twitch an ear if he was listening to it on the lorry radio on the way back from Sandown.
February 3, 2018 at 15:41 #1340597Well that was a shame to see Faugheen still far short of his best, there were definitely a few points along the way that showed all wasn’t well, he didn’t travel overly well and stretch the field, his head movement was laboured and lacking the usual enthusiasm, when asked turning in to the straight he just didn’t go away, at his best he would’ve opened up half a dozen lengths on that field when asked. Real shame. Fingers crossed he can put in one big performance in March and have a good battle with Buveur D’air.
February 3, 2018 at 15:45 #1340600Not sure what to make of that – Faugheen ran much better obviously and up until turning for home he seemed to have the upper hand but where he would usually kick away he just seemed to keep on as (the winner aside) nothing else was closing on him.
I just wonder whether he may actually come on for the run as they did say until recently he had only been cantering and not done any strong work – probably wishful thinking on my part but I don’t see a reason not to go to Cheltenham assuming no issues come to light.
February 3, 2018 at 15:50 #1340602Wishfull thinking, hes obviously capable of running a nice race, i hope they still send him just because it would make the race slightly more interesting. But on the whole the most disappointing outcome of the race was infact dds AND melon, both very very poor.
February 3, 2018 at 15:52 #1340603Good summary, Ricco
February 3, 2018 at 15:54 #1340604I’m with you LD73, I’m looking for the positives. It’s a head scratcher, he looked close to his best in the Morgiana, enthusiastic, positive head movement, ears back. There’s something bothering him seemingly, he didn’t even seem to want to try much today, if he was just a bit unfit, he would’ve at least tried and probably cantered past that field anyway
February 3, 2018 at 15:59 #1340608The fact that the tests they have done have came back showing nothing sais its something else ricco, only two months ago he ran to a rating in the 170s, i find it hard myself to say its age because he did so only two months ago, but if they cant find anything wrong, then what else can it be.
February 3, 2018 at 16:05 #1340610Faugheen’s comeback run was interesting in terms of the post-reaction. RPR gave him 171, not sure what Timeform gave him but it was apparently superior to anything Buveaur D’Air had ever done, while a couple of stopwatch accounts I follow on Twitter said it was between a stone and two stone below his best.
This said it was only a 152 performance!: https://polzeathratings.wordpress.com/2017/11/20/the-machine-stutters-back-into-life-at-punchestown/
They also backed Supasundae to beat him, so there might just be some merit to his rating. And if you believe his rating, then Faugheen has almost certainly ran a seasonal best today.
February 3, 2018 at 16:06 #1340611Ricco – Think its a bit harsh to say he didn’t want to try today as the rest weren’t closing him down so I think he ran all the way to the line.
Will be interesting to hear from connections especially what Townsend has to say in regards to the feeling he gave him through the race – pretty sure they could probably get him fitter given that they would have gone softly softly for the first few weeks following Christmas.
Fingers crossed he has no ill effects from today’s race and they can now start training him properly for Cheltenham.
February 3, 2018 at 16:09 #1340613That looked a shadow of the Faugheen that won the Champion Hurdle. With Melon so disappointing I would have expected Faugheen to capitalise.
I can’t believe my eyes seeing Faugheen as low as 2/1 for the Champion Hurdle and Yorkhill (Stank again today) sitting as low as 5/1. They must be fishing for mugs and they won’t get then when much bigger is available.
Buveur D’air has the race at his mercy.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 3, 2018 at 16:28 #1340620I didn’t mean to say he wasn’t trying today and wasn’t bothered, more that he couldn’t because something was causing him problems and distracting him. Time will tell, fingers crossed, potentially a great price if there is a simple cause or he’s just overcoming it.
February 3, 2018 at 16:46 #1340623I can’t believe my eyes seeing Faugheen as low as 2/1 for the Champion Hurdle and Yorkhill (Stank again today) sitting as low as 5/1. They must be fishing for mugs and they won’t get then when much bigger is available.
It takes time for the prices you see on oddschecker and/or sometimes even on bookmakers sites to be adjusted after the race, Steve.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 3, 2018 at 16:58 #1340625Melon was even more disappointing. Not jumping at all well and looked to either resent the new appendages or temperament is more of a problem than ever (has sometimes found little in the past).
