Well my boy doesn’t make it to the party but all is not lost. Without him by my side I have far less confidence in finding an outright winner – tricky old renewal this year

So THREE against the field it’s become. SPLASH OF GINGE I said from the start looks a place cert and I still carry the belief, although a bit more give would’ve been helpful. Young Jamie Balgarry taking 5lbs off looks a help though.

ANNACOTTY is another who would’ve preferred a few drops more. This one’s been taken more in a bit of faith that he can show well on debut for Alan King. I’ve always thought he’s got a good handicap like this in him though while he’s lurking in the mid 140s. He is a Feltham winner after all.

Lastly I couldn’t help but add PRESENT VIEW to my list. Seeing him near the foot of the weights today, 1lb lower than last year where he ran a belter on softer ground than he’d have liked, it just seemed a must. The fact there’s a drop of 25/1 about seems crazy, although the trainer reaching for the blinkers does show they’re clutching a bit.

Careful Boz, Gord will be accusing you of backing half the field too.

    Welcome back mate. :bye:

Well done Boz.I love the idea of backing more than one horse in a race as it gives you a protection blanket to at least cover your stake,I hope you beat the 12/1 SP too!

Cheers Gord :good: Managed to nick 16s in the week, although I think was available at the start of the day. All good anyway, nice way to kick things off B-)

Well I never. Four horse acca at the start of the day, just to a tenner and all of them short and curlies. Sizing John, Garde La Victoire and Sprinter Sacre all delivered (and didn’t the latter deliver, I had goosebumps!). I went to cash out before the machine with him being so short, but with the Sprinter Sacre leg not having settled I had to let it ride. Oh figs! :negative:

As an annual visitor to Betfair Chase Saturday, one race that I’ve become fixated with more than most is the Fixed Brush Hurdle. I, a bit like Pipey, have a fair old record in the race. He’s always the first port of call when I look through the early entries and, as ever, he’s responsible for a few of the early fancies. Tea For Two from the same connections as last years’ winner tempted me, but it’s Pipey’s UNIQUE DE COTTE that’s really made me go weak at the knees in this.

He’s got a progressive profile from last season and this race often discovers a good future staying chaser, something he looks built for. It’s been a quiet time for team Pipe but I’ve got full confidence he can relight the fire next weekend. Having Minella Rocco also entered and well fancied in the green and gold is a potential fly in the ointment, although I fancy my lad will take his place and will be well worth backing with the mud flying.

No dice with Unique De Cotte, not declared :negative: I can only assume there’s more to that, as 2 miles 6 furlongs round a flat, muddy Headache Park over them fixed brush obstacles seemed to have him written all over it.

Oh well, the plus point to no UDC is it’s left it clear cut down to one, although I’ve missed him at double the price. I’ve taken 8/1 about TEA FOR TWO, he wins this easily now.

No Ptit Zig last Saturday BUT he returns to take on the King George and Gold Cup favourite on Saturday. Fear not dear pilgrims, He’s rated around a stone lower and has to give up 5lbs while he’s at it, but as soon as an ante-post market appears for this one I’ll be lacing my boots and whacking the Nicholls horse. Calls like this is how we earn our salt…….. B-)

My friends in the racing alumni refer to me as ‘Mr Ante-Post’. Don’t worry Gord, I’m far from attempting to steal your crown here, it really stems from patterns as opposed to success :rose:

Anyway, this next attempt is a real corker, read back in a few hours for more…… B-)

I’ll be honest me ol’ Bobby Dazzler, I haven’t set eyes on your Derby horse. I often fizzle out over the summer. All the best with him though mate, he’s in the right hands.

Alvisio Ville looks a hugely exciting recruit to the chasing game. Am I right in thinking he’s entered in the race Don Poli won last year at Gowran Saturday? Hopefully his potential bares fruit, good luck with him again pal :good:

Right, strap yourselves in folks, this one’s a biggie! Ante-Post? Nah forget that, this bad boy’s uncle-post, nay DADDY-post!

In YANWORTH Alan King has a diamond in the ruff. His jumping today was at times scratchy. I’m sure this’ll be ironed out, especially going at a faster clip. In effect, the better quality of opposition he’s against the better he should go. He almost reminds me of The New One in his ways, his speed, the possibilities of going further and, of course, the jumping issues.

What we have at the end of all this is the outline of a Champion Hurdler. One that can progress through to Cheltenham (I’ve got my 25/1 Supreme vouchers), via Newbury (go on JP ;-) ) and finish the season no bigger than 8/1 for the 2017 spectacle.

With all that in mind I made a phone call today. Let’s be honest, a lot can happen in 16 months. Surely only a fool would put down their hard earned on a horse who’d ran twice over hurdles, beaten not a great deal for a race the best part of a year and a half away. Ye, foolish like a fox…… B-)

    YANWORTH, Champion Hurdle 2017, £12.50e/w@125/1

    Game on pilgrims, game on……

Cheers Gord. You’re right mate, the last few years have consisted of ups and downs and right now I’m riding on the crest of a wave :good: The constant is horse racing and I’d love it if this place could become the constant alongside it. I’m back though pal and I intend to keep it that way :yahoo:

There used to be a chap that roamed these parts by the name of ‘Roonaldo’. Remember him? He put up a, and I quote, ‘Big Confident Bet’ from time to time. He earned me some wedges and lost me some sheets. Hey ho, he was his own man.

What I’ve got for Saturday doesn’t come from owners, doesn’t come from a trainer, it comes straight from Boz, but boy it’s a BIG CONFIDENT BET. I’ll shout out the premise now at risk of getting egg on my face and him not being declared. I won’t quite give it all up yet, let’s just wait for the final decs to make sure he’s there. I’ll give you this much……the first at Haydock.

    Stay tuned B-)

Forgive me Father because I have sinned…..

One thing I don’t profess to doing is backing a horse I’ve never seen. Oh…..hold up, I did with a certain VAUTOUR before he’d ran over these shores. I’m the mug who took 66s for the Neptune when a square 100/1 was offered to me for what turned out to be a Supreme romp. Good times :rose:

The back end of the summer, albeit slightly too late I followed MIN at 12/1 for the Supreme. Never seen him, just liked the vibes. Not something I especially like doing but I’m in to the sweet tune of a ton

So YANWORTH’S my 2017 horse as well as my Supreme horse, although after the Royal Bond MIN may be my Supreme horse

Ask me in a week or two for ’16, my colours are nailed to the mast the following term. It will take something special to stop my green and gold goliath though B-)

Nice looking race that on Saturday Boz, I’ll be betting Crickel Wood, and De Boitron…….if they go that is  and maybe Where’s Tiger to get added to the trifecta, but like all those Haydock races, the weather could put a fair dent in them :negative:
