I reckon Neptune Collonges will run the listener out of it, and at better prices I’d be looking at Notre Pere and Chelsea Harbour, however there isnt enough between Notre Pere and Chelsea Harbour in terms of form (both of whom come here with decent last runs) to justify that Notre Pere is 3-1 and Chelsea Harbour is 40-1.

Chelsea Harbour e/w at 40-1 is the best bet bet in the race IMO.

I cant for the life of me understand how Neptune is still odds on for this. PN said in the Post today that he will probably need the run.

Even though Neptune is the class horse in the race he shouldnt be odds on after those comments

I’m beginning to question everything Paul Nicholls says.

After Denman’s defeat at Kempton last week he said he’d come on for the run, but not much. In his Teletext column yesterday he said that he didn’t have him fit, he very much needed the run and had improved massively for it.

I can’t imagine that Neptune Collonges needs the run having lasted for most of the race against Exotic Dancer not so long ago. So if he’s right, he wins.

I take it you are joking Beckster. It’s a 200,000 euro race and it his main target of the season. If he runs well in the Gold Cup again that will be a bonus but Paul Nichols nor anyone attached to the yard expect him to win it or he wouldn’t be running here. That surely lies between Kauto Star and Denman as far as they are concerned.

We know you love the horse, beckster, and are probably better placed than most to comment on his requirements, but how many more childish replies are we going to get in response to people offering their opinion?

My Mate Lisa Hales will tell you Beckster that "Punchestown" is the main target for Neptune this season, he has no chance of winning the Gold cup!

So losing to Kauto Star by what? A short head last year. Seven lengths behind a horse who is under a thunder cloud at the moment. Long way ahead of the others. That means he has no hope of winning this year does it?

I backed Neptunes for the Gold cup soon after last years race and at the moment deserves to be second favourite. Am a little worried a hard race on very soft ground will not do his Gold Cup chances any good.

On Notre Pere for the National, am hoping for a good run without encouraging them to keep him to Grade 1’s. Ideal type for the National.

I don’t think Neptune will win the Gold Cup but he certainly deserves to go there with respect and he has a very live chance.

He needs to win today really as its only four weeks now to the festival and he’d need to look virtually ready. Notre Pere I wouldn’t completely rule out but you’d have to fancy Neptune pretty strongly.

Beckster no offence mate but it would be nice if you could discuss the horse without attacking anyone that dares to say something about him that isn’t 100% positive. Racing is a game of opinions and everyone is entitled to theirs.

    Neptune Collognes cruised around there.

Notre Pere defintiely stayed on well though and I agree that NP should really appreciate the extra few and the hill at Cheltenham.

I do feel that Exotic Dancer would have won there if he came over though….

7/1 for NC to win the Gold Cup(13/8 to place) is too short considering Exotic Dancer is 5/2 for the place and 14/1 for the win.

I think NC has a chance in GC. With doubts about Denman and his proximity to Kauto last year you cant write him off. I would certainly prefer to back him at 7/1 than Kauto at 6/4

Good performance from Neptune always looked in control, jumped well, job done. Nicholls team will be pleased.

Notre Pere’s connections can be well pleased with their horse’s run as well.

The Listener – Dunno what they’re going to do with him!!

    Beckster,

As you see, I really rate "nipper", hope he wins the Gold Cup.

You have a point about others remarks. To call someone "fatty" and comments about not spending money on his daughters is wrong. Don’t see how someones opinion on a horses jumping and whether it has any chance in the Gold Cup (however wrong) can be personal. Just opinion. But to call them little nobodys is not neccessary.

It is interesting to see Notre Pere shortened in the market for the Gold Cup by bookmakers, yet pushed out on Betfair.

Yet has been backed for the Grand National on Betfair to be the same price as the bookmakers.

Has anyone heard of a change of plan?
